This study reviews an English enhancement course implemented for medical and nursing college students of 2011 to improve their standardized English test scores. A total of 117 first-year students underwent the pre-test and the post-TOEIC in November 2011. After the pre-test, lectures on listening enhancement strategies and problem solving tactics on reading comprehension were supplemented with 4 times of enhancement-tests. Their pre- and post-TOEIC results were compared to see if such enhancement strategies were effective to improve their TOEIC scores. It was further to investigate, through survey questionnaires, how the subjects felt about a number of pre-test-type TOEIC exercise with what-to-listen and how-to-infer listening strategies and pattern-drill practices for reading comprehension. It was found that the scores of listening comprehension improved significantly for both major students whereas reading scores showed slight decrease among nursing majors. It is concluded that administering numerous pre-test-type-TOEIC exercise is effective for students to improve their listening scores supplemented with listening strategies Also, students' response showed positive toward the enhancement course.

이 연구는 동물매개치료 중에서 'Read to Dogs'를 활용하여 초등학생의 자아존중감 및 독서증진에 실제로 어떤 효과가 있는지 알아보는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위하여 실행연구, 설문지법, 미술치료기법 중 HTP의 나무그림, KFD의 움직임이 있는 가족그림의 사전, 사후검사를 통하여 비교 분석하였다. 연구 결과 독서보조견을 통한 책읽기 프로그램은 독서부진 아동의 자아존중감 향상에 효과를 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 도서관이나 학교 현장에서 독서부진 아동을 위한 프로그램을 개발하고, 운영하는데 유용한 정보로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

This paper explored the effects of extensive reading (ER) on Korean university students' L2 reading proficiency and reading rates. This study also illustrated how ER can be integrated into a university English reading class. Seventeen students who took a summer reading course participated in this study. Data were gathered through pre- and post- tests in terms of participants' reading comprehension proficiency and reading rates and post- questionnaire with regard to their attitudes toward L2 storybook reading after they have experienced it. The analysis was carried out using the Paired Samples t-test. It was revealed that ER has a positive effect on the enhancement of the participants' reading comprehension and reading rates. The participants showed their continued intention to read in English and a strong belief that persistent reading in English in the long run will help improve their English. The results of this study confirm the educational values of incorporating ER into university English reading classes. The pedagogical implications for EFL instructors are described.

본 연구에서는 독서관련 자격제도를 살펴보고, 독서관련 자격증의 발급 현황과 교육과정을 면밀히 조사 분석한 결과, 278개 과정의 독서관련 자격증은 모두 민간 비공인으로 운영되고 있으며, 교육내용의 질적 제고의 노력과 체계적인 관리체계가 요구되었다. 이를 토대로 민과 관이 협력하여 독서관련 자격증의 질적 제고를 위한 운영방안을 제시하고, 독서문화진흥 정책의 참고자료로서 활용할 것을 제언하였다.

Since the introduction of literature in reading and writing during the 1970s, considerable research has attempted to determine whether literature has significantly positive effects upon enhancement of reading proficiency. It is said that literature extends our knowledge of the world. Through books, we can experience other people's thoughts, experiences, and ideas (Frye, 1964). This paper explored the role of children's literature for the teaching of reading through the literature-based instruction. It focused on why and how children's literature serves as an important context for enhancing learner's reading proficiency of English. It also discussed the authentic use of literature-based strategies for practical classroom use, and suggested the future directions for research toward the literature-based instruction in the domain of reading comprehension.

This study examined the effects of previewing and providing background knowledge on low level EFL readers' comprehension of expository texts and their responses to these treatments. 130 college freshmen were randomly placed into one of three treatment groups and read two expository texts reflecting unfamiliar cultural information. Prior to reading, one group was given previewing instruction, which included vocabulary preteaching and summaries, and a second group was provided with culture-specific background knowledge through watching videos and slides. The third group read each text without any prereading instruction. Immediately after reading a passage, subjects answered a 10-item multiple-choice test. Results showed significant positive effects of the previewing treatment and weak positive effects of the providing background knowledge treatment. Students' responses on the questionnaires revealed that the majority felt that the experimental treatments contributed to comprehension enhancement, made reading more enjoyable, and expedited their reading process. Students in the control group, however, indicated that they needed explicit prereading instruction in order to understand the texts. Pedagogical implications of the findings for EFL reading instruction are provided.

이 연구의 목적은 우리나라 학교도서관 및 독서교육 관련 조례를 분석하여 개선점을 논의하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 현재 시 도교육청에서 제정하여 운영하는 관련 조례 건을 분석하였다. 학교도서관 조례, 독서교육 조례, 학교도서관/독서교육 조례로 구분하여 내용 구성요소를 비교하였고, 조례의 내용을 교육감과 교장의 책무, 위원회와 전담부서, 독서진흥 및 독서교육, 학교도서관 등 4개 영역으로 나누어 분석하였다. 이 분석을 토대로 조례의 개선 방향을 실효성 제고, 통합형 조례 운영, 교육과정 연계성 강화, 정보활용교육 원리 반영 등의 측면에서 논의하였다.

이 연구는 전라북도교육청의 효과적인 독서교육 정책방향을 모색하기 위해 단위학교 독서교육 담당교사를 대상으로 실시한 조사연구이다. 주요 조사내용은 그동안의 독서교육 사업평가, 단위학교 독서교육 현황, 독서교육 정책개발의 고려요소이며, 전라북도교육청 소속 전체 학교의 31%에 해당하는 239개교 독서교육 담당교사를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 분석결과, 현 독서교육 지원사업에 대한 전반적인 인지도와 효과성은 비교적 높고, 단위학교는 연간 4개 정도의 독서교육 프로그램을 제공하고 있으며, 초등학교의 독서교육 수준이 중 고등학교에 비해 우수하게 나타났다. 그리고 향후 독서교육 정책수립시 고려해야 할 우선순위로는 사서교사와 같은 독서교육 전문인력의 충원과 학교도서관 시설 및 장서와 같은 독서환경의 개선이 중요하게 평가되었다. 이상의 분석결과를 바탕으로 이 연구는 현 독서교육 지원사업의 기조유지와 개선, 학교도서관 환경개선 사업의 지속추진, 초등학생 대상의 전문화된 정책개발, 독서교육 전문인력의 배치와 전문성 신장, 독서교육 정보의 공유체계 마련을 독서교육의 주요 정책방향으로 제안하였다.

학습장애아의 읽기 능력을 위한 PREP(PASS Reading Enhancement Program)는 학습장애아를 대상으로 한 관찰을 바탕으로 이론이 정립되었고, 인지기능에 비인지적 요소인 주의집중을 포함시키고 있어 여러 연구를 통해서 그 효과가 입증되었다. 그러나 PREP를 활용한 모바일 시스템의 연구는 초기 단계에 있어 본 연구는 인지 이론을 바탕으로 한 프로그램인 PREP를 활용하여 모바일 학습 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 본 시스템의 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연속적 과제와 동시적 과제를 학습 내용으로 하여 학습 전략을 발전시키며 읽기 기능을 향상시키는데 중점을 두었다. 둘째, 학습자의 특성을 반영하여 흥미를 유지할 수 있도록 퀴즈의 형식을 도입하고 학습자의 접근성과 이동성, 개별성을 강화한 시스템을 고려하여 설계하고 구현하였다. 셋째, 시스템을 사용 시 학습자의 수준에 따라 다른 단계로 접근이 가능하며 완전학습을 지원할 수 있는 인터페이스를 구현하여 학습자의 유의미한 읽기 능력이 가능하도록 설계하고 구현하였다. 본 시스템을 학습장애의 초등학생에게 적용한 결과, 읽기활동에 대한 태도와 읽기 능력이 모바일 학습 시스템을 적용하기 전보다 향상되어 PREP 프로그램의 효과성이 입증되었다.

Lip-reading technology that is studied them is used to compensate speech recognition degradation in noise environment in bi-modal's form. The most important thing is that search for correct lips area in this lip-reading. But, it is hard to forecast stable performance in dynamic environment. Used RASTA filter that show good performance to remove noise in the speech to compensate. This filter shows that improve performance of using time domain of digital filter. To this experiment observes performance of speech recognition only using image information, service chooses possible 22 words and did recognition experiment in car. We used hidden Markov model by speech recognition algorithm to compare this words' recognition performance.
