  • The reactive and harmonic current components of dc loads can be compensated by the three-phase hybrid power filter (HPF) system. After compensation, the resulting current has sinusoidal and in-phase components with the source voltage. The HPF system is constructed by an active filter and passive filters. The passive filter reduce the 5th and 7th harmonic of the load current. The active filter compensates the remainder of the load current. Using the HPF system, a low cost harmonic compensator can be made. Performance of the HPF system is verified through simulation,

  • Nowadays, small scale DGS(Distributed Generation System), as a wind power generation or photovoltaic generation, becomes to be introduced into the power distribution system. But in that case it is difficult to properly maintain the terminal voltage of low voltage customers by using only LDC(Line Drop Compensator). So, it is necessary to determine the permissible operation limit of the introduced DGS for proper voltage in distribution system. In this paper clarifies the relationship between LDC voltage regulation principle and real, reactive power of DGS, and examines the permissible operation limit of the introduced DGS in distribution system which the voltage is controlled by LDC.

  • The conventional APF(Active Power Filter) system performs only function which is compensated for source harmonic by injecting harmonic compensation current as well as reactive power component by PWM. This paper presents a new APF which provides the combined functions of VC(Voltage Compensator) and conventional APF, because the structure of APF is similar to stand- alone UPS in parallel type. Single-chip microprocessor plays an important role in controlling each function. Simulation obtained from ACSL are shown to verify multi-functions of new APP.

  • 본 논문에서는 3-레벨 PWM 인버터식 STATCOM의 동특성 해석과 직류측 상.하단 캐패시터 전압의 분균등을 보상하기 위한 제어 시스템을 설계하여 시뮬레이션과 축소모형 실험에 의한 성능 해석에 관하여 기술하였다. STATCOM과 전력 계통을 등가회로로 표현하여 회로 방정식을 유도하고 수리모형을 도출하여 전체 회로의 동적 특성을 분석하고, 고안된 제어 시스템의 성능해석은 Marlab을 이용한 시뮬에리션과 축소모형 실험을 통해 검증하였는데, 검증결과 고안된 제어시스템은 무효전력 보상과 직류측 상.하단 캐패시터 전압의 불균등을 해소하는 우수한 성능을 갖는 것을 확인하였다.

  • This paper describes performance analysis of ARCP Inverter, which can offer zero voltage switching at nominal voltage stress. The system consists of a voltage-source inverter with sort-switching module. Each main switch is connected in parallel with resonant capacitor and two auxiliary switches are placed in series with a resonant reactor for soft-switching capability. The described ARCP inverter could be effectively applied for active power filter reactive power compensator, and UPS.

  • This paper proposes the FACTS site selection method using subtransmission system reduction. A general method which uses the sensitivity of the variation in voltage and reactive power has been used to determine the location of shunt type FACTS device, but there is a difficulty to finding a proper location due to the overestimation of the effect of sub-transmission systems. Therefore, there is a need to reduce sub-transmission system for finding an effective location of shunt type FACTS devices such as SVC(Static Var Compensator), STATCOM(Static Synchronous Compesator), and so on.

An Improved Control Approach for DSTATCOM with Distorted and Unbalanced AC Mains

  • This paper presents a new control approach of DSTATCOM (distribution static compensator) for compensation of reactive power, unbalanced loading and harmonic currents under unbalanced non-sinusoidal ac mains. The control of DSTATCOM is achieved using Adaline based current estimator based on LMS algorithm to maintain source currents real and undistorted. The dc bus voltage of voltage source converter (VSC) working as DSTATCOM is maintained at constant voltage using a proportional-integral (PI) controller. The DSTATCOM system alongwith proposed control scheme is modeled in MATLAB to simulate the behavior of the system. The practical implementation of the DSTATCOM is carried out using dSPACE DS1104 R&D controller having TMS320F240 as a slave DSP. Simulated and implementation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the DSTATCOM with Adaline based control to meet the severe load perturbations with different types of loads (linear and non-linear) under distorted and unbalanced AC mains.

STATCOM을 활용한 FIDVR 완화 방안에 대한 연구 (A Study on the FIDVR Mitigation Scheme using Dynamic Voltage Support by STATCOM)

  • In this paper, we studied the control strategy of applying STATCOM(static synchronous compensator) to mitigate the FIDVR(fault induced delayed voltage recovery) phenomenon. The proportion of motor loads is gradually increasing which might affect power system stability. Excessive reactive power consumption by the stall of the motor loads causes FIDVR phenomenon. In addition, the low inertia of the small HVAC(heating, ventilation and air conditioner) unit will not separate itself in the event of a contingency, causing system instability. For this reason, we have developed a control strategy that utilizes STATCOM efficiently through static and dynamic analysis. Case studies on a Korean power system have validated the performance of the proposed scheme under severe contingency scenarios. The results have verified that the proposed strategy can effectively mitigate FIDVR and improve the stability and reliability of the system.

  • 교류 전기철도 시스템은 3상 전원으로부터 전력을 수전 받지만, 철도부하는 단상이므로 열차가 운행될 경우 3상 전원 측에 전압불평형을 유발시키게 된다. 전기철도 시스템 중 전동차 사무소의 경우도 일반 3상부하와 비상용 철도 부하가 운영되므로 전압불평형 및 전압강하 현상이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 전압불평형이나 전압강하는 고조파 발생의 주원인이 되고, 고조파는 전동차 사무소의 정밀한 기기들의 오동작을 초래할 수 있다. 따라서, 전동차 사무소의 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 SVC의 사용을 제안하였다. 또한 SVC를 이용하여 전동차 사무소의 전압불평형 및 전압강하를 보상할 경우 발생할 수 있는 고조파에 대해 PSCAD/EMTDC를 이용하여 분석하였다. 결과적으로, 전동차 사무소의 전압강하 및 전압불평형 보상을 위한 SVC는 전력품질을 향상시킨다는 것을 본 노문에서 확인하였다.

제주계통의 전압조정을 위한 MMC-HVDC 시스템 응용 (Application of MMC-HVDC System for Regulating Grid Voltage Based on Jeju Island Power System)

  • This paper presents a control method of the modular multilevel converter - high-voltage direct current (MMC-HVDC) system to regulate grid voltage on the basis of the Jeju Island power system. In this case, the MMC-HVDC system is controlled as a static synchronous compensator (Statcom) to exchange the reactive power with the power grid. The operation of the MMC-HVDC system is verified by using the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation program. The Jeju Island power system is first established on the basis of the parameters and measured data from the real Jeju Island power system. This power system consists of two line-commutated converter - high-voltage direct current (LCC-HVDC) systems, two Statcom systems, wind farms, thermal power plants, transformers, and transmission and distribution lines. The proposed control method is then applied by replacing one LCC-HVDC system with a MMC-HVDC system. Simulation results with and without using the MMC-HVDC system are compared to evaluate the effectiveness of the control method.
