In this paper, robot navigation experiments with a new navigation algorithm are carried out in real environments. The authors already proposed a reactive navigation algorithm for mobile robots using optimal via-point selection method. At each sampling time, a number of via-point candidates is constructed with various candidates of heading angles and velocities. The robot detects surrounding obstacles, and the proposed algorithm utilizes fuzzy multi-attribute decision making in selecting the optimal via-point the robot would proceed at next step. Fuzzy decision making allows the robot to choose the most qualified via-point even when the two navigation goals-obstacle avoidance and target point reaching-conflict each other. The experimental result shows the successful navigation can be achieved with the proposed navigation algorithm for real environments.

When a high voltage COS fuse becomes a short circuit by the over current, the impulse noise over 150 dB(A) with the strong pulse jet is radiated from the COS fuse of an electric transformer. For the purpose of the impulse noise reduction, in this study, a reactive type silencer with perforated panels are considered. The transmission loss of the silencer are calculated by transfer matrix method. The effect of the porosity, the distance between panels, and the number of perforated panel on the sound transmission loss is investigated and discussed.
This paper presents an algorithm for optimal reactive power dispatch problem based on Improved Genetic Algorithm(IGA). Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch (ORPD) is particularized to the minimization of transmission line losses by suitable selection of generator reactive power outputs and transformer tap setting. For the objective, in this paper, Loss Re-Distribution Algorithm(LRDA) is new applied to the equality constraint of ORPD. The proposed method has been evaluated on the IEEE 30 bus system. Results of the application of the method are compared with a base case.

On account of the good conductivity and optical properties, TCO is generally used in silicon heterojunction solar cell since the emitter material, hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H), of the solar cell has low conductivity compare to the emitter of crystalline silicon solar cell. However, the work function mismatch between TCO layer and emitter leads to band-offset and interfere the injection of photo-generated carriers. In this study, work function engineering of TCO by oxygen reactive sputtering method was carried out to identify the trend of band-offset change. The open circuit voltage and short circuit current are noticeably changed by work function that effected from variation of oxygen ratio.
A novel hybrid active power filter (NHAPF) that can be adopted in high-voltage systems is proposed in this paper. The topological structure and filtering principle of the compensating system is provided and analyzed, respectively. Different controlling strategies are also presented to select the suitable strategy for the compensation system. Based on the selected strategy, the harmonic suppression function is used to analyze the influence of system parameters on the compensating system with MATLAB. Moreover, parameters in the injection branch are designed and analyzed. The performance of the proposed NHAPF in harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation is simulated with PSim. Thereafter, the overall control method is proposed. Simulation analysis and real experiments show that the proposed NHAPF exhibits good harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation. The proposed compensated system is based on the three-phase four-switch inverter, which is inexpensive, and the control method is verified for validity and effectiveness.

This paper describes a reactive optimal power flow incorporating margin enhancement constraints. Margin sensitivity at a steady-state voltage instability point is calculated using invariant space parametric sensitivity, and it can provide valuable information for selection of effective control parameters. However, the weakest buses in neighboring regions have high margin sensitivities within a certain range. Hence, the control determination using only the sensitivity information might cause violation of operational limits of the base operating point, at which the control is applied to enhance voltage stability margin in the direction of parameter increase. This paper applies an interior point method (IPM) to solve the optimal power flow formulation with the margin enhancement constraints, and shunt capacitances are mainly considered as control variables. In addition, nonlinearity of margin enhancement with respect to control of shunt capacitance is considered for speed-up control determination in the numerical example using the IEEE 118-bus test system.
This paper presents a method for optimal dispatch which minimizes transmission losses and improves voltage profile of power systems using genetic algorithm based on the mechanism of natural genetics and natural selection. The constraints are VAR sources(transformer tap, generator voltage magnitude and shunt capacitor/reactor), load bus voltages and generator reactive power. Real variable-based genetic algorithms which can save coding times and maintain the accuracy are applied for optimal dispatch of reactive power. The genes of genetic algorithm consisted of integers for considering discrete VAR sources. A efficient operator for crossover is proposed to consider the effect of close genes. The algorithm proposed can apply to problems for large scale power systems with multi-variables and complex nonlinear functions efficiently. The proposed method is applied to IEEE 30 buses model system to show its effectiveness.

AZO (Aluminum doped Zinc Oxide) transparent conducting thin films were fabricated by reactive DC mangnetron sputtering method using zinc target containing 2 wt% of Al. Transition range with optimum transmittance and conductivity was obtained by contrlling partial pressure of reactive oxygen gas. Sputtering condition for this transition range could be kept stable by regulating the target voltage. According to XRD analysis, there was only one peak for (002) plane in AZO films and the films deposited in transition range.
Direct Power Control technique has become popular in the grid connected Voltage Source Converter (VSC) applications due to its simplicity, direct voltage vector selection and improved dynamic performance. In this paper, a direct method to determine the effect of voltage vector on the instantaneous active and reactive power variations is developed. An alternative Look Up Table is proposed which minimizes the commutations in the converter and results in minimum reactive power variation. The application of suggested table is established for Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) application. The Predictive Direct Power Control method, which minimizes apparent power variation, is further investigated to reduce commutations in converters. Both the methods are validated using 2 kVA laboratory prototype of Shunt Active Power Filters (SAPF).
