Substrate Effect on the Electrochemical Properties of $LiCoO_2$ Thin-Film Cathode for Li Microbattery (리튬 미소전지용 $LiCoO_2$ 박막양극의 전기화학적 특성에 미치는 기판의 영향)

  • In order to investigate the substrate effect on the electrochemical properties of thin-film electrode, $LiCoO_2$ was deposited onto the alumina, chemically etched-Si and flat-Si substrates. After annealing at $800^{\circ}C$ in $O_2$ for 30min, the film deposited on the alumina consisted of large particles with several cracks, whereas the film deposited on the flat-Si substrate was composed of very small and uniform particles. The films deposited on the flat-Si showed improved electrochemical properties such as peak potential divergence and rate-capability, over those deposited on the alumina and chemically etched-Si substrate, which can be attributed to the differences of the particle size surface morphology, and the electrical resistance of the current collector.

  • In digital mobile communication systems, the convolutional coding is considered as the optimum error correcting scheme. Recently, the Viterbi algorithm is widely used for the decoding of convolutional code. Most Viterbi decoder has been proposed in conde rate R=1/2 or 2/3 with memory components (m) less than 3. which degrades the error correcting capability because of small code constraints (K). We consider the design method for typical code rate R=1/2, K=7(171,133) convolutional code with memory components, m=6. In this paper, a novel construction method is presented which combines maximum likelihood decoding with a state transition double detection and comparison method. And the designed circuit has the error-correcting capability of random 2 bit error. As the results of logic simulation, it is shown that the proposed Viterbi decoder exactly corrects 1 bit and 2 bit error signal.

A Facile Process for Surface Modification with Lithium Ion Conducting Material of Li2TiF6 for LiMn2O4 in Lithium Ion Batteries

  • A facile method for surface coating with $Li_2TiF_6$ which has a high lithium-ion conductivity, on $LiMn_2O_4$ spinel cathode material for high performance lithium ion batteries. The surface coating is performed by using a co-precipitation method with $Li_2CO_3$ powder and $H_2TiF_6$ solution under room temperature and atmospheric pressure without special equipment. Total coating amount of $Li_2TiF_6$ is carefully controlled from 0 to 10 wt.% based on the active material of $LiMn_2O_4$. They are evaluated by a systematic combination of analyses comprising with XRD, SEM, TEM and ICP. It is found that the surface modification of $Li_2TiF_6$ is very beneficial to high cycle life and excellent rate capability by reducing surface failure and supporting lithium ions transportation on the surface. The best coating condition is found to have a high cycle life of $103mAh\;g^{-1}$ at the 100th cycle and a rate capability of $102.9mAh\;g^{-1}$ under 20 C. The detail electrochemical behaviors are investigated by AC impedance and galvanostatic charge and discharge test.

  • Up to date cosmetic OEM/ODM (original equipment manufacturing/original development manufacturing) industry receives attention as a future growth engine due to steady growth. However, because of limited research and development capability, many companies have employed commercial management platforms specialized for large-sized companies; thus, overall system effectiveness and efficiency is low. Especially, MRP (material requirement planning) system introduced originally in 1970s is employed to calculate the requirement of the parts. However, dynamic nature of production lead time usually results in incorrect requirements. In addition, its algorithm does not consider the capability of the production resources. Also, because the commercial MRP system calculates all subcomponent for fixed period, the more goods have subcomponent, the slower calculation is. Therefore, conventional MRP system cannot respond complicated situation in time. In this study, we will suggest a new method that can respond to complicated situations resulting from short lead time and urgent production order in Korean cosmetic market. In particular, a distributed MRP system is proposed, that consists of multi-functional and operational modules, based on the characteristic of the BOM (bill of material). The distributed MRP system divides components (i.e. products and parts) into several fields and decrease the problem size; thus, we can respond to dynamically changed data any time. Through this solution, we can order components quickly, adjust schedules and planned quantity, and manage stocks reasonably. In addition, a prototype of the distributed MRP system is presented in this paper, in which ERP (enterprise resource planning) sever data is associated with an excel spreadsheet via MSsql. System user interface is implemented by a VBA (visual basic for applications) tool. According to a case study, response rate for delivery and planning achievement rate were enhanced about 20%, and inventory turnover was also decreased. Consequently, the proposed system improves overall profit.

Fabrication and Electrochemical Characterization of N/S co-doped Carbon Felts for Electric Double-Layer Capacitors (전기이중층 커패시터용 질소/황이 동시에 도핑된 탄소 펠트의 제조 및 전기화학적 성능 평가)

  • In this study, N/S co-doped carbon felt (N/S-CF) was prepared and characterized as an electrode material for electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs). A commercial carbon felt (CF) was immersed in an aqueous solution of thiourea and then thermally treated at 800 ℃ under an inert atmosphere. The prepared N/S-CF showed a large specific surface area with hierarchical pore structures. The electrochemical performance of the N/S-CF-based electrode was evaluated using both 3-electrode and 2-electrode systems. In the 3-electrode system, the N/S-CF-based electrode showed a good specific capacitance of 177 F/g at 1 A/g and a good rate capability of 41% at 20 A/g. In the 2-electrode system (symmetric capacitor), the freestanding N/S-CF-based electrode showed a specific capacitance of 275 mF/cm2 at 2 mA/cm2, a rate capability of 62.5 % at 100 mA/cm2, a specific power density of ~ 25,000 mW/cm2 at an energy density of 23.9 mWh/cm2, and a cycling stability of ~ 100 % at 100 mA/cm2 after 20,000 cycles. These results indicate the N/S co-doped carbon felts can be a promising candidate as a new electrode material in a symmetric capacitor.

  • The performance and the internal flow of the impeller of the centrifugal chiller compressor with refrigerant R12 as working fluid were studied numerically, using CFD code, CFX-Tascflow, which is commercially available. In this numerical study, the thermodynamic and transport properties of the refrigerant gas were generated by the property program of NIST and linked with main program to extend the capability of the code to refrigerant gases. Numerical study was applied to several mass flow rates near the design mass flow rate at constant rotating speed. Overall performance and flow characteristics of the impeller at impeller exit were investigated. The results were physically reasonable and showed good agreement with experimental measurement at the design flow rate.

  • It is well-known that the convergence rate gets worse when an input signal to an adaptive filter is correlated. In this paper we propose a new adaptive filtering algorithm that makes the convergence rate highly improved even for highly correlated input signals. By introducing an orthogonal constraint between successive input signal vectors, we overcome the slow convergence problem caused by the correlated input signal. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm yields highly improved convergence speed and excellent tracking capability under both time-invariant and time varying environments, while keeping both computation and implementation simple.

  • The sterilization of strain and algae in sea water was studied to see the possibility to apply the redox reaction of metal alloy to meet the international marine organization(IMO) regulation, which was to regulate deballasting concentration of strain and algae above 99% of sterilization. Two different kinds of brass were heat treated at different temperature and cooled rapidly to conserve the specific character of ${\beta}$ brass. Untreated Muntz metal showed the best result of antimicrobial rate in sea water, and 7:3 brass showed similar result to Muntz metal. Heavy metal elution rate was inversely proportional to the sterilization capability.

  • The dynamic characteristics of turning processes are complex, non-linear and time-varying. Consequently, the conventional techniques based on crisp mathematical model may not guarantee surface roughness regulation. This paper presents a fuzzy controller which can regulate surface roughness in milling process using end-mill under varying cutting condition. The fuzzy control rules are established from operator experience and expert knowledge about the process dynamics. regulation which increases productivity and tool life is achieved by adjusting feed-rate according to the variation of cutting conditions. The performance of the proposed controller is evaluated by cutting experiments in the converted CNC milling machine. The result of experiments show that the proposed fuzzy controller has a good surface roughness regulation capability in spite of the variation of cutting conditions.

  • In this paper, an alternative method which can evaluate a marginal power exceeding yearly peak load for each load bus is proposed. The proportion of the marginal power to yearly peak load for each load bus is defined as Local Marginal Power Rate (LMPR). Furthermore, the composite system is separated base on the LMPR. The bottleneck facilities could be found, while the LMPR is estimated. Then, it is possible to provide information concerning improvement in the system reliability by bottleneck facilities. The IEEE Reliability Test System (RTS) is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
