  • This paper investigates the problem of random analysis of fixed structures which are influenced by waves and current. Morison eqution was employed to deal with the wave and current load. The wave kinematics are randomly generated from the wave spectrum. The necessary statistics are calculated from the resulting response time history. The simulation results are turned out to be very sensitive to the simulation technique.

  • Considering the randomness of material parameters in the laminated composite plate, a scheme of stochastic finite element method to analyze the displacement response variability is suggested. In the formulation we adopted the concept of the weighted integral where the random variable is defined as integration of stochastic field function multiplied by a deterministic function over a finite element. In general the elastic modulus of composite materials has distinct value along an individual axis. Accordingly, we need to assume 5 material parameters as random. The correlations between these random parameters are modeled by means of correlation functions, and the degree of correlation is defined in terms of correlation coefficients. For the verification of the proposed scheme, we employ an independent analysis of Monte Carlo simulation with which statistical results can be obtained. Comparison is made between the proposed scheme and Monte Carlo simulation.

  • In order to take account of the statistical properties of random variables used in the structural analysis, the conventional approach usually adopts the safety factor based on past experiences for the qualitative assessment of structural safety problem. Recently, new approach based on the probabilistic concept has been applied to the assessment of structural safety in order to circumvent the difficulties of the conventional approach in choosing the appropriate safety factor. Thus, computer program called "Probabilistic finite element method" is developed by incorporation the probabilistic concept into the conventional matrix method in order to investigate the effects of the random variables on the final output of the structural analysis. From the comparison of some examples, it can be concluded that the PFEM developed in this study deals with consistently with the uncertainty of random variables and provides the rational tool for the assessment of structural safety of plane frame.

  • This paper presents the thermomechanical and fracture mechanics evaluation procedure of thermal striping damage on the secondary piping of LMFR using Green's function method and standard FEM. The thermohydraulic loading conditions used in the present analysis are simplified sinusoidal thermal loads and the random type data thermal load. The thermomechainical fatigue damage was evaluated according to ASME code subsectionNH. The analysis results of fatigue for the sinusoidal and random load cases show that fatigue failure would occur at a geometrically discontinuous location during 90,000 hours of operation The fracture mechanics analysis showed that the crack would be initiated at an early stage of the operation. The fatigue crack was evaluated to propagate up to 5 ㎜ along the thickness direction during the first 944 and 1083 hours of operation for the sinusoidal and the random loading cases, respectively.

  • Random vibration of the coupled identical beams subject to band-limted white noise is studied. The mean-square displacements average dspatially over each beam are derived analytically using two different modal analysis techniques and compared to the results by SEA(Statistical Energy Analysis). It is shown that when frequency is high and a large number of modes are included in the frequency band, the modal analysis methods and the SEA yield the same results provided that the loss factors are very small and the modal separation is much larger than the half-power bandwidth.

  • A direct transfer substructure method is presented in this paper for analyzing the dynamic characteristics and the seismic random responses of a series reactor. This method combines the concept of FRF (frequency response function) and the transfer matrix algorithm with the substructure approach. The inner degrees of freedom of each substructure are eliminated in the process of reconstruction and the computation cost is reduced greatly. With the convenient solution procedure, the dynamic characteristics analysis of the structure is valid and efficient. Associated with the pseudo excitation algorithm, the direct transfer substructure method is applied to investigating the seismic random responses of the series reactor. The numerical results demonstrate that the presented method is efficient and practicable in engineering. Finally, a precise time integration method is employed in performing a time-history analysis on the series reactor under El Centro and Taft earthquake waves.

  • Distortions are analyzed and compared for two TDM channel expansion methods- periodic sample skipping and sampling frequency reduction. Signal is assumed to be stationary random signal with zero.mean. Channel noise and interference are not considered in the analysis. For speech signal, it is shown that the periodic sample skipping method could be a better choice under practical design constraints.

  • The dynamic response analysis of closed loop control system based on probability for the intelligent truss structures with random parameters is presented. The expressions of numerical characteristics of structural dynamic response of closed loop control system are derived by means of the mode superposition method, in which the randomness of physical parameters of structural materials, geometric dimensions of active bars and passive bars, applied loads and control forces are considered simultaneously. The influences of the randomness of them on structural dynamic response are inspected by several engineering examples and some significant conclusions are obtained.

  • The mechanical structures mounted on vehicles or aircrafts are subject to random accelerations, such as earthquakes, at the base, and their responses have been calculated through spectrum analysis. However, this method poses a challenge during the synthesis of the responses owing to the loss of the vibration phase. It is necessary to evaluate the time history results to obtain the exact responses; therefore, an efficient technique is proposed to solve this issue. The present technique involves constructing a superelement using the sub-structuring method and finding solutions for this superelement. The finite element model (FEM) was substituted by a superelement, which was simplified into one element with selected nodes. Comparing the numerical results of the superelement with the time history responses for the original finite element model, the two solutions agree well despite the fact that the computation time of the proposed technique has been greatly shortened.

  • In this paper, in order that the various QoS(Qualify of Service)s that are required by different traffic class are guaranteed in the random access channels in multi-service multi-user OFDMA systems, the backoff-based random access algorithm is proposed and corresponding performance is analyzed in terms of the access success probability, the throughput, the average delay and the blocking probability. Through the numerical analysis, it is shown that the proposed backoff-based random access algorithm can provide the differentiated QoSs to random access attempts according to their service class.
