Fiber-textured diamond films have been deposited on scratched silicon(100) substrate by micro wave .plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition at the condition of micro wave power : 950 W, pressure : 60 torr, H$_{2}$ gas flow rate : 50 sccm, CH$_{4}$ gas flow rate : 1.5 sccm, substrate temperature : about 900.deg. C and deposition time : 20 hours. The films were characterized by mean of scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray analysis.
We examined the photo catalytic activity and catalytic recyclability of CdSe/graphene nanocomposites fabricated via modified hydrothermal technique. The prepared composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopic analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The photocatalytic behavior was investigated through decomposition of RBB as a standard dye under visible light radiation. Our results indicate that there is significant potential for graphene based semiconductor hybrids materials to be used as photocatalysts under visible light irradiation for the degradation of organic dyes from industry effluents.

To provide standard data of temperature and species concentration in a flame for calibrating the laser based combustion diagnostics, we investigated combustion characteristics of a flat flame burner(Mckennar Product). For various stoichiometric ratios we measured temperature and concentration of OH in the premixed methane/air flame with Coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy and laser induced fluorescence technique, respectively. Assuming the chemical equilibrium condition at the measured temperature, the mole fraction of the OH radical in the flame was obtained and compared with numerical analysis.

Tribological testing of DLC films was conducted using a rotating type ball on a disk friction tester in a dry chamber. This study made use of four kinds of mating balls that were made with stainless steel but subjected to diverse annealing conditions in order to achieve different levels of hardness. In all load conditions using martensite mating balls, the test results demonstrated that the friction coefficient was lower when the mating materials were harder. The high friction coefficient found in soft martensite balls appeared to be caused by the larger contact areas. The wear track on the mating balls indicated that a certain amount of material transfer occurs from the DLC film to the mating ball during the high friction process. Raman Spectra analysis showed that the transferred materials were a kind of graphite and that the contact surface of the DLC film seemed to undergo a phase transition from carbon to graphite during the high friction process.

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with few defects and very small amount of amorphous carbon coating have been synthesized by catalytic decomposition of methane in $H_2$ over well-dispersed metal particles supported on MgO. The yield of SWCNTs was estimated to be 88.5% and the purities of SWCNTs thus obtained were more than 90%. Peak of the radial breathing mode in the Raman spectrum demonstrated that the diameters of synthesized CNTs are in the range 0.4-2.0 nm. Our results also indicated that MgO support materials are useful to a large-scale synthesis of high-quality SWCNTs. Increasing temperature could remarkably increase the yield and also improve the quality of SWCNTs from catalytic decomposition of methane. The morphologies and microstructures of the synthesized carbon materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD).
The feasibility of obtaining graphitic carbon films on targeted substrates without a catalyst and transfer step was explored through the pyrolysis of the botanical derivative camphor. In a horizontal quartz tube, camphor was subjected to a sequential process of evaporation and thermal decomposition; then, the decomposed product was deposited on a glass substrate. Analysis of the Raman spectra suggest that the deposited film is related to unintentionally doped graphitic carbon containing some $sp-sp^2$ linear carbon chains. The films were transparent in the visible range and electrically conductive, with a sheet resistance comparable to that of graphene. It was also demonstrated that graphitic films with similar properties can be reproduciblyobtained, while property control was readily achieved by varying the process temperature.

Diamond films were deposited on the cemented tungsten carbide WC-Co cutting insert substrates by using both microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition(MWPCVD) and radio frequency plasma chemical vapor deposition (RFPCVD) from $CH_4$$-H_2$$-O_2$ gas mixture. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques were used to investigate the microstructure and phase analysis of the materials and Raman spectrometry was used to characterize the quality of the diamond coating. Diamond films deposited using MWPCVD from $CH_4$$-H_2$$-O_2$ gas mixture show a dense, uniform, well faceted and polycrystalline morphology. The compressive stress in the diamond film was estimated to be (1.0∼3.6)$\pm$0.9 GPa. Diamond films which were deposited on the WC-Co cutting insert substrates by RFPCVD from $CH_4$$-H_2$$-O_2$ gas mixture show relatively good adhesion, very uniform, dense and polycrystalline morphology.
The adsorption structure and binding of maleimide (MI) and succinimide (SI) on silver nanocolloidal surfaces have been comparatively investigated by means of pH-varied surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). The two molecules appeared not to adsorb onto Ag surfaces at pH values below 5. The appearance of a ring ν (CH) band at ~3100 $cm^{-1}$ denoted the standing geometry of MI’s aromatic ring on Ag. The absence or weakness of in-plane vibrational modes of MI and SI also supported a perpendicular orientation of MI and SI on Ag from the electromagnetic selection rule. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed to examine the vibrational frequencies of MI’s and SI’s neutral and anionic states.

The aim of this study was to investigate the evidential value of blue and black ballpoint pens on paper by nondestructive techniques. In this work, 21 blue and 22 black ballpoint pens which were purchased on different brands were analyzed by Raman Spectroscopy and Video Spectral Comparator (VSC). Surface-Enhanced Resonance Raman Spectroscopy (SERRS) with excitation at 685 nm and VSC with several spot light filters were used for the discrimination of ballpoint pen inks. In the SERR spectra, the ballpoint pen inks on paper could be shown sharp spectral bands and distinguished by their band shapes and relative intensities. In the blue and black ballpoint pen inks, the discriminating powers (DP) by SERRS were 0.85 and 0.67 and the DP by VSC were 0.88 and 0.90, respectively. The DP by combined sequence of techniques was all 0.97 in both black and blue ballpoint pen inks.
Lignin can be a valuable natural chemical resource. Structurally, lignin is a three-dimensional polymer made up of condensed C-C bonds and some ether linkages, most of which are not readily degraded. In this study, lignin carbonization under various electron beam pretreatment conditions was characterized through a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. Lignin stabilization was controlled by various doses of electron beam irradiation corresponding to 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 kGy; the carbonization process was performed under a nitrogen gas atmosphere at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The TGA results showed that a 1,000 kGy lignin dose increased the residue weight from 39.96% to 45.23%, compared to non-irradiated lignin. This observation is in agreement with the XRD and Raman spectroscopy results, in which the two theta degrees and the degree of crystallization were improved by increasing the electron beam irradiation.
