A study on the characteristic of ballast fracture by M.T.T. works (MTT작업에 의한 도상자갈 파쇄특성에 관한 연구)

  • The ballast, one of track components, plays an essential role as intermedium in transmitting train load to subgrade safely, and the deterioration of ballast directly effects the growth of track irregularity. So far, gravel fining of ballast track was mainly related to the repetition of train loads, but was gradually increased with using MTT(Multiple Tie Tamper) recently. Therefore, in this study, an evaluation of the abrasion and crush process of ballast particles was performed with outdoor field test by MTT works. From this study, the amount of abrasion and crush of ballast particles appeared to increase linearly with MTT works, and the gradient of particle size distribution curve appeared to deviate gradually from a criterion of aggregated ballast size distribution in high-speed railroad.

  • The major objective of this study is to investigate the dynamic behaviors of track due to the deterioration characteristics of ballast for servicing tracks by the field test. The durability of ballast plays an important role in the track behaviour. To estimate the deterioration characteristics of ballast, several tests have been carried out by several scholars. The deterioration characteristics of ballast is one of the most important factor in the dynamic behaviour of track and its life. In this paper abrasion/breakage characteristics of ballast is studied to predict the effect of physical ballast characteristics on ballast track. To reveal deterioration characteristics of ballast, the field test were carried out. The deterioration characteristics, studied in this paper, is applied to the dynamic behaviour of track in various conditions.

Air Quality and PM10 Source Analysis on the Railway Vehicles (철도차량에서의 공기질 현황 및 PM10 오염원 분석)

  • Nowadays, concerns have much more growing regarding indoor air quality (IAQ) on the public transportation including railway vehicles. Last year Korea Ministry of Environment (ME) set new guideline for public transportation. In this study several factors were analyzed which may affect comfortableness of railway passenger cabin, and we monitored IAQ parameters (PM10, CO, $CO_2$, VOCs, temperature and humidity) to investigate the present pollution in passenger cabin. In general, the railway air quality was satisfactory. The PM10 and $CO_2$ level on all passenger cabin were below the new guideline level 1 for PM10 $(200{\mu}g/m^3)\;and\;CO_2(2,000ppm)$. Clustering method was carried out to classify the air polluting pattern of the cabin. As a result, the pollutants could be classified to 4 clusters and the origin of pollution is soil, diesel exhaust gas, abrasion of rail and plume.

  • The high-speed railway track occurs train operating result track irregularity, subsidence of the track, ballast abrasion. This is the unusual condition. High-speed railway track maintenance task is the behavior which repairs unusual section by using the human resource or machine resource. The resource used to maintenance task is restrictive. A resource can be efficiently used if the high-speed railway track maintenance scheduling is used. So the more task can be performed in the fit time. In conclusion, this manages the unusual condition of a track efficiently. So additional expenses is minimized cause by deteriorating unusual condition. And it offers comfortable ride to passenger. However, maintenance scheduling has to reflect well practical situation and environment. That's maintenance scheduling is used. We gather the opinions of the hands-on workers. So in this paper define field situation and condition. And suggest mathematical model about this. And we developed the track maintenance scheduling software engine using ILOG.

  • Most of operating railways in domestic, it is used to be Wheel flange lubricator system applied liquid spray type. Wheel flange lubricator are reduced the abrasion of wheel flange through spraying in accordance with operating on the curve or operating function of time base and/or distance base. this paper is written to introduce and study the efficiency for the angular velocity sensing type of lubricant systems.

  • In this study, Curve dependent wheel flange lubricator with grease spray type is investigated and estimated a point of view reducing wheel flange wear and noise in the curve through field test on korean rail. Advantage of curve dependent wheel flange lubricator with grease spray type is found on the basis of the result of field test in comparison with oil spray type lubricator and wheel without wheel flange lubricator on railroad in Korea.

  • Train wheels tend to wear abrasion due to frequent Starlings and brakings. They are important factors of train safety and noise. However, it is difficult and inaccurate to measure their shape and profile manually. Profile measurement system of train wheel with image processing is proposed. The system consists of CCD cameras, PCI image grabber board, and PC operated on Windows '95. Image processing algorithms such as filtering, histogram equalization, and edge detection are presented, and some processing results are illustrated.

  • Pentagraphs are used to supply electric power to train via trolley lines. The higher train speed is, the higher voltage and current levels 8u. Since electric power is supplied with slinding contact, localized abrasion is inevitable. It is difficult and dangerous to measure their shape manually. Measurement system of pentagraph slider with ultrasonic processing has been reported. In this paper, measurement system with image processing is proposed. The system consists of CCD cameras, image grabber board, and PC operated on Windows'95. Image processing algorithms are presented and some results are illustrated.

  • In railway, Ballast plays an essential role as intermedium in transmitting train load to subgrade safely. Gyoung-Bu HSL 1st phase consists of ballasted track except for over 5km long tunnels. Ballast track occurred track irregularity by train loads and requires periodic maintenance work. However, Repetitive train operation and tamping work cause to accelerate track irregularity and ballast deterioration such as abrasion and crushing. For these reason, Track irregularity areas had occurred ballast cleaning work to improve track quality. However, for the train to run safety, ballast cleaner working area needs train speed reduction and track stabilization work due to ballast relaxation and initial settlement. In this study, according to train speed-up and cumulative traffic tonnage, we measured and analyzed the track settlement and acceleration of sleepers to evaluate of track stabilization in order to keep the ballast condition stable after cleaning work.
