This study was conducted to find objective diagnostic indicators for the Eight Principle Pattern Identification using a pulse wave analyzer. Typology Complexion Pulse and Symptom data from 500 women over the age of 18 were used. Five experts made a diagnosis of Eight Principle Pattern Identification and divided the subjects into 'Yin-Yang', 'Exterior-Interior', 'Cold-Heat', 'Deficiency-Excess' groups. Their pulse waves were measured in the left and right radial arteries, and it was investigated whether there was a significant difference between groups in the pulse wave parameter values. 'Yin' group showed a significantly lower value in the left radial artery for Ener, Emin, EIX, T4T, T4TT parameters and in the Right for T2, T2T, T5. The Vmag, As and Ad parameters were significantly different between the 'Exterior' and 'Interior' groups. 'Heat' group showed a significantly higher value in the right radial artery for RAI/t parameter. 'Deficiency' group showed a significantly higher value in the right radial artery for W, Angl parameters. Through this study, significant pulse wave parameters were found, and they can be used as objective diagnostic indicators for Eight Principle Pattern Identification.
One prototype product of clip-type pulsimeter equipped with magnetic field sensing semiconductor Hall device after one permanent magnet attached "Chwan" position in center of a radial artery was developed. The clip-pulsimeter was composed of the hard ware system measuring to voltage signals. To measure the blood velocity, the radial artery pulsimeter is simultaneously connected the PPG (photoplethysmograph). Analysis and comparison of two pulse waves data has done obtained from a clinical test of forty subjects of 20 ages. The value of a blood velocity simultaneously measured from a radial artery puls wave and PPG is an average value of 0.8m/s. The usage of this research results is possible to store the biomedical signals for health care.
There are many ways to detect the heart rate non-invasively such as ECG, PPG, strain gauge, and pressure sensor. In this paper, the pulse wave measurement system using bipolar biased head on mode of the Hall sensor is proposed for measuring the radial artery pulse. TMS320F2812 was used to implement the proposed system and a portable wireless network(zig-bee) was used to show the experimental result. It was confirmed from experiment that the performance of the implemented system was more stable and faster than PPG sensor or piezoelectric film pressure sensor.

Photoplethysmogram is widely used to measure heart rate and arterial blood oxygen saturation in human. This paper describes implementation a photoplethysmography monitoring system that uses 780nm and 940nm length infrared light in radial artery. That system used combinations of 8 LEDs and 2 photoelectricities. When recorded on the skin over radial artery, the radial pulse wave was inverted. The mechanism of inverted pulse wave skin, which was reduced during systolic period and increase during diastolic period of the cardiac cycle. Through this system, we discovered optimal environments and combinations of sensors in both penetration type and reflection type. These results suggest that radial arterial wall way reflect infrared ray.
Objectives : Recently, people who have normal brachial blood pressure(BP) are being threatened by high-risk disease such as stroke. The aim of this study is to suggest that new method to assess systemic circulation. It can be performed by analyzing optimal blood pulse wave on 3 sites belonging to subjects that have normal BP. Methods : We respectively extracted main peaks(h1) of optimal blood pulse wave on left/right temporal artery(LR1=h1), radial artery(LR2=h1) and dorsalis pedis artery(LR3=h1). We obtained h1 from 30 subjects who are discreetly chosen and have normal BP. Main peak(h1) can be extracted by using 3D pulse imaging analyser(DMP-1000+, DAEYOMEDI Co., Korea) that has 5-level pressure method. We analyzed the ratio of [LR1/LR2] and [LR3/LR2]. Results : In the case of male group, the results are [LR1/LR2=0.7100.177] and [LR3/LR2=0.9290.317]. In the case of female group, the results are [LR1/LR2=0.6680.121] and [LR3/LR2=0.7050.195]. Especially, it is statistically verified that the result of ratio [LR3/LR2] is much higher in male group than in female group(p<0.05). Conclusions : We suggested the standard ratio of [LR1/LR2] and [LR3/LR2] for normal subjects, respectively. It can be adopted as a new method to evaluate the systemic circulation.

Introduction: This study aims to investigate the effects of acupuncture stimulation on the radial artery's pressure pulse wave, along with various hemodynamic parameters, and to explore the possible underlying mechanism of pulse diagnosis in healthy participants in their twenties. Methods and analysis: This study is a prospective, single-arm, exploratory clinical study. A total of 25 healthy participants, without regard to gender, in their twenties will be recruited by physicians. Written informed consent will be obtained from all participants. The participants will receive acupuncture once at ST36 on both sides. The radial arterial pulse waves will be measured on the left arm of the subjects by using an applicable pulse tonometric device (KIOM-PAS). On the right arm (appearing twice), electrocardiogram (ECG), photoplethysmogram (PPG), respiration and cardiac output (CO) signals, will be measured using a physiological data acquisition system (Biopac module), while the velocity of blood flow, and the diameter and the depth of the blood vessel will be measured using an ultrasonogram machine on the right arm (appearing twice). All measurements will be conducted before, during, and after acupuncture. The primary outcome will be the spectral energy at high frequencies above 10 Hz ($SE_{10-30Hz}$) calculated from the KIOM-PAS device signal. Secondary outcomes will be various variables obtained from the KIOM-PAS device, ECG, PPG, impedance cardiography modules, and an ultrasonogram machine. Discussion: The results of this trial will provide information regarding the physiological and the hemodynamic mechanisms underlying acupuncture stimulation and clinical evidence for the influence of acupuncture on the pressure pulse wave in the radial artery. Ethics and dissemination: This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of Kyung Hee University's Oriental Medical Center, Seoul, Korea (KOMCIRB-150818-HR-030). The study findings will be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences. Trial registration number: This trial was registered with the Clinical Research Information Service (CRIS) at the Korea National Institute of Health (NIH), Republic of Korea (KCT0001663), which is a registry in the World Health Organization's (WHO's) Registry Network.
In this study, pulse waves were measured at radial artery using non-invasive tonometric pulse pressure measurement system, SphygmoCor(AtCor, Australia), according to subject's posture. Then it was analysed whether the pulse wave parameters, which contain heart activities, change among three different postures (upright stand, sit, and supine). And it was also verified that the pulse wave parameters change among blood pressure level groups(hypotensive, normotensive, and hypertensive). As a results, posture effects were verified in time information of pulse wave rather than amplitude. But some parameters calculated by ratio of two amplitude, such as augmented index(AI) and ratio of central aortic pulse and radial artery pulse, showed significant difference according to postures. In post hoc test, time to the $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ pulse peak(P_$T_1$, and P_$T_2$), ED(ejection duration), and HR(heart rate) showed significant difference among posture groups with each other. In comparison of blood pressure groups, it was verified that the parameters related to amplitude of pulse wave showed significant difference rather than time information.
The period and strength of the pulse on the radial artery are important physiological factors, and they have been used to diagnosis in both Western and Eastern countries for a long time and has been developed as a unique method of diagnosis at each countries. Recently, there are a lot of systems which can give diagnosis information by recording the pulse wave and analyzing the characteristics of the pulse shape. This study describes the Pulse-Wave Measurement System which is able to measure the pulse wave signal using piezoresistive sensor and the pulse wave signal measured by the developed system is transmitted to a computer on the basis of the USB Driver. It has finally shown the the pulse wave signal measured by the sender is appeared to the host PC in real time. The Pulse-Wave Measurement System used the piezoresistive sensor to measure the pulse wave signal and the differential amplifier(AD620) to amplify the pulse wave signal which is small signal. And it used the ADC to convert analog to digital for the measured analog signal and the interface with a computer. It transmitted the measured pulse signal through USB transmission module to the host computer and Labview tool shows it. This Pulse-Wave measurement system will afford comvenience of detecting pulse wave to user related to oriental medicine.
In this study, pulse wave parameters changes were verified between normotensive and hypertensive group. To measure pulse wave in radial artery, non-invasive tonometric pulse wave measurement device (SphygmoCor PX, AtCor, Austrailia) was used. 136 subjects participated in this study. Among 20 parameters, 16 parameters changes were analysed(p < 0.05) between normotensive(n=104) and hypertensive group(n=32). As a results, several parameters related with pulse pressure, reflective pulse wave, systolic and diastolic function of heart showed significant difference between normotensive and hypertensive group.
Pulse diagnosis refers to the process of diagnosing a patient by feeling an artery on the wrist based on the shape that the pulse take s while the hold-down pressure increase. The styloid process artery on the wrist is usually felt, and the pulse is taken on Chon, Gwan and Cheok using three fingers. This study is to examine the structural difference in the location of pulse diagnosis by measuring and analyzing blood diameter, blood depth, and blood flow velocity of the location of pulse diagnosis by using ultrasonic wave (VOLUSION730 PRO, GE Medical, U.S.A). This study also attempted to grasp whether the characteristics of blood vessels differ depending on Body Mass Index (BMI) and analyzed their correlation with Oriental medical pulse diagnosis. The male subjects without cardiovascular diseases were divided into the normal BMI group, the underweight group and the overweight group and 10 people of each group were measured, Blood depth, blood diameter and blood flow velocity at the location of pulse diagnosis (Chon, Gwan, Cheok) of the wrists of left and right hands were measured and the pulse wave was measured by using pulse diagnosis instrument (3-D Mac, DaeyoMedi, Korea). The results of this study showed that the characteristics of blood vessels differ depending on the degrees of obesity, and the characteristics of floating pulse and sinking pulse of Oriental medical pulses were related to the degrees of obesity. This shows that the characteristics of the blood vessels of subjects and BMI information are the major indicators for diagnosis and are the matters that must always be considered when developing the algorithm of pulse diagnosis.
