Manufacturing and Characteristic Evaluation of Free space Optical Communication Devices in 5G Mobile Base Stations for Emergency Disaster Response (긴급재난 대응용 5G 이동 기지국을 위한 대기공간 광통신 장치의 제작과 특성평가)

  • In this paper, a free space optical communication device that can be used in a mobile base station of several km or less was fabricated and its characteristics were investigated. To overcome the loss due to atmospheric transmission, an optical fiber amplifier (EDFA) with an output of 23 dBm or more was used. In order to increase the focusing speed and miniaturization of the laser beam, an optical lens was manufactured, and a transmission lens was designed to have beam divergence within the range of 1.5 to 1.8 [mrad]. A PT module that controls PAN/TILT was fabricated in order to reduce pointing errors and effective automatic alignment between transceiver devices. In this study, Reed-Solomon (RS) code was used to maintain the transmission quality above a certain level. It was manufactured to be able to communicate at a wireless distance of 300m in a weather situation with visibility of 300m. For performance measurement, it was measured using BERT and eye pattern analyzer, and it was confirmed that BER can be maintained at 2.5Gbps.

  • In this paper, we first analyze the influence of interference due to the time variation and delay spread of the mobile channel on an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. With the result, we obtain the bit error rate performance of the 16-QAM OFDM system. Second, we investigate the performance of the Reed-Solomon (RS) coded 16-QAM OFDM system when the number of subcarriers varies. In the investigation, we assume that the information transmission rate and the total bandwidth expansion due to coding, guard interval, and the number of subcarriers are fixed. Under this condition, it is observed that there are optimum numbers of subcarriers that minimize the post decoding symbol error probability of RS code for various channel states.

  • This paper presents the VLSI implementation of RS(reed-solomon) decoder using the Modified Euclidean Algorithm(hereafter MEA) for DVD(Digital Versatile Disc) and CD(Compact Disc). The decoder has a capability of correcting 8-error or 16-erasure for DVD and 2-error or 4-erasure for CD. The technique of polynomial evaluation is introduced to realize syndrome calculation and a polynomial expansion circuit is developed to calculate the Forney syndrome polynomial and the erasure locator polynomial. Due to the property of our system with buffer memory, the MEA architecture can have a recursive structure which the number of basic operating cells can be reduced to one. We also proposed five criteria to determine an uncorrectable codeword in using the MEA. The overall architecture is a simple and regular and has a 4-stage pipelined structure.

  • A passive Optical Network (PON) is famous for the most cost-efficient solution among the optical networks. This is because there is no active device between a central office and subscribers. A wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) offers each subscriber to feel unlimited bandwidth. A WDM-PON, however, has a cost problem that WDM-PON is used commercially. To solve this trouble, it is surveyed that a Sub-Carrier Multiplexing (SCM) used in a WDM-PON increases the number of subscribers. The performance of WDM/SCM-PON varies with various noises. The several FEC Codes can reduce the effects of noise and improve the performance of the system. Thus, Choosing a suitable FEC code is important work. This paper describes that a Reed-Solomon (RS) code is the most suitable code for WDM/SCM-PON at the object of 100 Mbps and $10^{-9}$ BER

  • 본 논문에서는 PC 기반 지상파 DMB(Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting, T-DMB) 수신기를 위한 SW 최적화에 대해 설명한다. 이 수신기는 PC 외부에 지상파 DMB 신호를 안테나로 수신하여 복조하고 채널 복호하는 프론트 엔드(front-end) 수신 모듈을 이용, USB를 통하여 RS(Reed-Solomon) 부호화된 MPEG-2 TS(Transport Stream) 데이터를 읽어 들여 RS 복호, TS 역다중화, 비디오 복호, 오디오 복호 등의 SW 처리 과정을 거쳐 디스플레이 상에 수신 내용을 표시하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 저사양 PC에서도 T-DMB를 수신할 수 있도록 H.264/MPEG-4 AVC(Advanced Video Coding) 복호 과정을 최적화한 결과에 대해 설명한다.

The Effect of Block Interleaving in an LDPC-Turbo Concatenated Code

  • The effect of block interleaving in a low density parity check (LDPC)-turbo concatenated code is investigated in this letter. Soft decoding can be used in an LDPC code unlike the conventional Reed-Solomon (RS) code. Thus, an LDPC-turbo concatenated code can show better performance than the conventional RS-turbo concatenated code. Furthermore, the performance of an LDPC-turbo code can be improved by using a block interleaver between the LDPC and turbo code. The average number of iterations in LDPC decoding can also be reduced by a block interleaver.

  • In satellite digital broadcasting and satellite internet, severe burst errors occur in the high-speed return channel from the satellite to mobiles. In this paper, we analyze the performance of the forward error correction (FEC) coding method in the Rayleigh fading return channel. We first investigate the channel model of Loo, LutB, Vucetic and Corazza. We then compare the performance of the convolutional, Reed-Solomon (RS), convolution-RS concatenation, and Turbo codes in rayleigh fading channel.

  • OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)은 하나의 데이터 열(data stream)을 낮은 데이터 전송률을 갖는 작은 데이터로 나누고, 이들을 부반송파(subcarrier)를 통해 동시에 전송한다. OFDM이 차세대 전송방식으로 채택된 이유는 주파수 선택적 페이딩(frequency selective fading)이나 협대역(narrow band)간 간섭에 받는 영향이 적어 고속 통신이 가능하기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 RS 부호(Reed-Solomon Code)를 사용하여 OFDM에서 대용량 데이터를 전송할 때 발생하기 쉬운 연집 오류(burst error)를 정정하도록 하였다. 또한 채널 사이에 파일롯 심볼(pilot symbol)을 삽입하여 채널 추정을 통한 신호의 타이밍 오류도 고려하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 XFP(10 Gb/s Small Form Factor Pluggable) 트랜시버 모듈의 정확한 데이터 전송을 위해 저전력 FEC를 설계하였다. 현재 많이 사용되며 버스트 에러에 강한 Reed-solomon코드를 구현하고 코드의 분산 연산을 통해 저전력 RS코드를 구현하였다. 본 논문에서 제안한 코드는 기존의 RS코드 대비 20% 면적이 감소하는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 또한 전력소모가 10% 감소되는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다.

  • In this paper, we present an optimized design of RS(23,17) decoder for UWB, which uses the pipeline structured-modified Euclidean(PS-ME) algorithm. Firstly, the modified processing element(PE) block is presented in order to get rid of degree comparison circuits, registers and MUX at the final PE stage. Also, a degree computationless decoding algorithm is proposed, so that the hardware complexity of the decoder can be reduced and high-speed decoder can be implemented. Additionally, we optimize Chien search algorithm, Forney algorithm, and FIFO size for UWB specification. Using Verilog HDL, the proposed decoder is implemented and synthesized with Samsung 65nm library. From synthesis results, it can operate at clock frequency of 250MHz, and gate count is 17,628.
