  • An improved method is presented to estimate the axial force of a bar member with vibrational measurements based on modified Timoshenko beam theory. Bending stiffness effects, rotational inertia, shear deformation, rotational inertia caused by shear deformation are all taken into account. Axial forces are estimated with certain natural frequency and corresponding mode shape, which are acquired from dynamic tests with five accelerometers. In the paper, modified Timoshenko beam theory is first presented with the inclusion of axial force and rotational inertia effects. Consistent mass and stiffness matrices for the modified Timoshenko beam theory are derived and then used in finite element simulations to investigate force identification accuracy under different boundary conditions and the influence of critical axial force ratio. The deformation coefficient which accounts for rotational inertia effects of the shearing deformation is discussed, and the relationship between the changing wave speed and the frequency is comprehensively examined to improve accuracy of the deformation coefficient. Finally, dynamic tests are conducted in our laboratory to identify progressive axial forces of a steel plate and a truss structure respectively. And the axial forces identified by the proposed method are in good agreement with the forces measured by FBG sensors and strain gauges. A significant advantage of this axial force identification method is that no assumption on boundary conditions is needed and excellent force identification accuracy can be achieved.

  • This paper presents an estimation procedure for axial displacement in spindle equipped with angular contact ball bearings due to rotational speed. High-speed spindle-bearing system experiences axial displacement due to thermal expansion and rotational speed-dependent characteristics of angular contact ball bearings. This paper deals with the axial displacement caused by the rotational speed-dependent effects such as centrifugal force and gyroscopic moments. To this end, a bearing dynamic model is established that includes all the static and dynamic properties of angular contact ball bearing. An analytical formula to calculate the axial displacement based on contact angles between ball and races is derived to discuss the physics regarding the axial displacement in spindle. The proposed dynamic model is compared with a reference and a commercial program. Numerical examples are presented to show the effects of centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment on the axial displacement. The proposed model is also validated with an experimental result.

  • Red pepper calyx cutting devices using a impacting force by a rotational cutter were devised and tested to obtain the fundamental data for development of a calyx removal unit. Fresh red peppers with 80∼87%(w.b.) of initial moisture contents were used as experimental materials. Square and wire type of rotational cutters were used to cut the red pepper calyx and the fresh red peppers were fed into the device both manually and automatically. Three rotational speeds of 250, 500, 700rpm were selected for a square, and 1000, 1500, 1800rpm for a wire type cutter respectively. Four types of red pepper fixing unit were used in manual feeding. The cutting rate of the square type cutter was over 50% regardless the shape and specification of the cutter. For the wire type cutter, the copper wire and nylon chord could not be applied to cut the red pepper calyx because of the low cutting rate. But for the fine wire, the cutting rate was higher and the cutting mechanism was more steady than copper wire and nylon chord. The cutting rate of automatic feeding and wire type cutting unit was about 70% for all levels of the rotational speed. The cutting rate was highly related to the impacting point of red pepper in carrier box. To increase the cutting rate using the rotational cutter, a proper device and mechanism was required to keep the impacting point consistently.

  • To increase the applicability and productivity of hydroforming process, hydro-embedding process was developed by combining the hydro-forming process with embedding process simultaneously. It is necessary in the automotive parts to form hollow bodies with connection elements which combine one part with another. The hydro-embedding process is embedding the connection element hydraulically during the operating steps of the hydroforming. In this study, technique of rotational piercing is added on the existing hydro-embedding to increase the connection force of hydro-embedded element. To estimate the feasibility of new trial process, integrated researches on the hydro-embedding process technology have been performed by analyzing the deformed mode of the tubes and the optimal process parameters for various shapes of the connection elements.

  • The combined rotational and translational dynamic vibration absorbers (DVA) with no dampers for the beam vibration control can effectively isolate the vibration within the external excitation force region. This paper investigates the damping efficacy for the combined rotational and translational dynamic vibration absorbers to impose some robustness to the DVA system for the excitation force frequency variation. The beam is assumed to be subjected to a concentrated harmonic excitation force. The solution to the problem is found based on Galerkin method.

  • This paper is analyzed the effect on characteristics of thrust force of linear induction motor(LIM) by arc type tester. Many kinds of tester have a rotational shape because of a finite length of railroad. Whereas effects by using rotational type tester are generally unknown. For reason of that, this paper is analyzed the effect on characteristics by rotational type tester using 2D finite element method(FEM), and then is compared a thrust force between linear type tester and rotational type tester. Analysis model is decided by numerical modeling for fitting the LIM for propulsion system of light rail, and it is changed to proper arc model. And then we analyzed the arc and the linear model. Consequently, arc type tester is not only useful experiment but also efficient simulation method, and small error is occurred between linear and arc model.

  • Friction between piston-ring assembly and cylinder wall of a spark ignition engine was evaluated under various engine operating conditions utilizing a grasshopper linkage system. The friction force was estimated by the force balance relation at the small end of connecting rod. Three forces were chosen to be measured for the objective. They were gas pressure inside the cylinder, inertia force of the piston-ring assembly, and the force exerted by the connecting rod. These forces were measured by a piezo type pressure sensor, an accelerometer and strain gauges, respectively. Comparisons were made with the frictional force evaluated by the conventional method where the assumption of constant rotational speed of engines was adopted. Due to the variation of rotational speed of engines, the conventional method was found to lead to a large error in the evaluation of the frictional force.

  • Runout causes severe differences among cutting force waveforms due to changes of rotational radii. Thus a runout model must be included in a cutting force model to simulate cutting force accurately. In this paper, a runout modeling method and a measurement method using a dialgauge were developed, which were easy to apply. To calculate runout parameters, a computer program algorithm which obtained runout parameters from measurement values was developed. Cutting force waveforms simulated from cutting force model considering runout effect and measured from experiments had good agreements for their wave size and order.

As, in relation to all movements of a human being, the movements such as mutually walking, running, rotating, and jumping are attained endlessly through the ground amid the interaction with the ground, in terms of the harmonious movement of the upper limbs and the lower limbs, related to the basic movement in ballet, the type of a movement depends on the size and direction of the force that presses down the ground (Fz, Fx, Fy) amid the interaction with the ground. Therefore, aiming to correctly and efficiently perform a rotational movement in Arabesque, this study analyzed factors of the force manifestation through GRF (Ground Reaction Force), by dividing into preparing, stepping, standing, rotating, and finishing stages (events (1) ${\sim}$ (5)), targeting the subjects of 4 elite female students who majored in ballet. 1. At the No.5 position of the preparing stage, It is necessary that support the ground with left and right foot balance, 2. As the stepping stage is the phase ranging from the event (2), in which a plie movement of bending a knee is started, to the event (3) of stretching a knee, Rebunding motion is not good, and One have a position with ankle and knee flextion condition in order to stretch strengthly in event (3) position 3. At the event (1) position, It is necessary that exert the Fz reaction force at the event (3) position. Because large stretch force help to have a toe on position easily and show a active motion 4. In order to have a stand and rotation motion smoothly, One need a muscle strength training for ankle extension, knee extension, control horizental force

  • This paper presents a numerical method to analyze the electromechanical-coupled field in the spindle motor of a computer hard drive and investigates dynamic response due to the electromechanical excitation, i.e. unbalanced magnetic force and centrifugal force for the rotational asymmetric motor. Magnetic field is calculated from Maxwells equation and voltage equation by introducing nonlinear time-dependent finite element analysis. Mechanical motion of rotor is calculated by solving Newton-Euler equation. Electromechanical excitation and dynamic response are characterized by analyzing the free response of a rotating rotor and Fourier analysis of the excitation force and resulting vibration of a rotor. It shows that centrifugal force produces the unbalanced magnetic force even in the rotational symmetric motor. It also shows that resonance produces quite considerable vibration even when the high excitation frequency with small amplitude matches with the natural frequency of the spindle motor.
