L-carnitine promotes mitochondrial ${\beta}$-oxidation of long chain fatty acids and their subsequent transport across the inner mitochondrial membrane. Although the role of L-carnitine in fatty acid metabolism has been extensively studied, its role in live performance and carcass responses of commercial broilers is less understood. The objective of this research was to determine if Lcarnitine fed at various levels in diets differing in CP and amino acids impacted on live performance and carcass characteristics of commercial broilers. Two floor pen experiments were conducted to assess the effect of dietary L-carnitine in grower diets. In Exp. 1, Ross${\times}$Hubbard Ultra Yield broilers were placed in 48 floor pens (12 birds/pen) and fed common diets to d 14. A two (0 or 50 ppm Lcarnitine) by three (173, 187, and 202 g/kg CP) factorial arrangement of treatments was employed from 15 to 35 d of age (8 replications/treatment). An interaction (p<0.05) in carcass yield indicated that increasing CP (187 g/kg) resulted in improved yield in the presence of L-carnitine. Increasing CP from 173 to 202 g/kg increased (p<0.05) BW gain and decreased (p<0.05) feed conversion and percentage abdominal fat. Feeding dietary L-carnitine increased back-half carcass yield which was attributable to an increase (p<0.05) in thigh, but not drumstick, yield relative to carcass. In Exp. 2, $Ross{\times}Ross$ 708 broilers were fed common diets until 29 d. From 30 to 42 d of age, birds were fed one of seven diets: i) 200 g/kg CP, 0 ppm L-carnitine; ii) 200 g/kg CP, 40 ppm L-carnitine; iii) 180 g/kg CP, 0 ppm L-carnitine; iv) 180 g/kg CP, 10 ppm L-carnitine; v) 180 g/kg CP, 20 ppm L-carnitine; vi) 180 g/kg CP, 30 ppm L-carnitine; and vii) 180 g/kg CP, 40 ppm L-carnitine (6 replications of 12 birds each). BW gain, feed conversion, mortality (30 to 42 d), and carcass traits (42 d) were measured on all birds by pen. There were no treatment differences (p<0.05). However, the addition of 40 ppm L-carnitine in the 200 g CP/kg diet increased (p = 0.06) thigh yields relative to BW in comparison to birds fed diets without L-carnitine, which was further confirmed via a contrast analysis (0 vs. 40 ppm L-carnitine in the 200 and 180 g CP/kg diets; p<0.05). These results indicated that dietary L-carnitine may heighten metabolism in dark meat of commercial broilers resulting in increased relative thigh tissue accretion without compromising breast accretion.

남극 로스해의 퇴적물로부터 배양을 통해 분리한 균주의 분류 및 생리학적 특성 분석을 수행하였다. 분리 세균 63균주의 16S rRNA 유전자 염기서열을 이용한 계통분류학적 분석 결과, 이들은 Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Alphaproteobacteria 및 Gammaproteobacteria 내의 21개의 파일로타입(phylotypes)에 속하였다. 98.65% 염기서열 유사도를 기준으로, 약 49%의 균주가 잠재적으로 신종 또는 신속 후보인 것으로 나타났다. 분리된 균주 중, 각각 46%, 25% 및 32%의 균주가 세포외 단백질분해효소, 지질분해효소 및 외부다당체 생성에 대한 활성을 나타냈다. 43개의 균주는 최소 1개의 세포외 분비 물질을 생산하였고, 이들 중 21개 균주는 최소 2개의 세포외 단백질분해효소, 지질분해효소 또는/및 세포외다당체를 생성하였다. 이러한 결과는 남극 로스해 퇴적물 내의 배양된 세균 군집이 해당 환경에서 탄소와 질소와 관련된 유기물질의 가수분해에 영향을 미치고 있다는 것을 시사한다.

천연 한약재인 금은화, 상엽, 황련(48.5 : 48.5 : 3.0)으로부터 얻은 복합 한약재 추출물 0.3%와 항생제(Albac G150) 0.05%를 육계에 각각 급여한 후 닭 가슴육과 다리육의 산화 안정성을 평가하였다. 복합 한약재 추출물이나 항생제 모두 급여하지 않은 구를 대조구로 하였다. 닭가슴육의 총 페놀 함량은 복합 한약재 추출물 급여구가 가장 높았고, 항생제 급여구 및 대조구의 순으로 나타났다. 전자 공여능은 복합 한약재 추출물 급여구가 항생제 급여구에 비해 닭다리육 0일차 저장에서 높게 나타났으며, $ABTS^+$ radical 소거 활성 또한 복합 한약재 추출물 급여구가 높은 활성을 나타내었다. 저장 중 지방산패도는 일반적으로 처리구간 차이가 없었다. 실험결과 항생제 급여구나 대조구에 비해 복합 한약재 추출물 급여구가 계육의 산화 안정성에 효과적이었으며, 기능성 천연 물질의 급여는 항생제 대체뿐만 아니라 계육의 부가적 기능의 향상 가능성도 기대할 수 있다고 본다.

최근 저탄소 녹색성장 및 그린에너지 개발 정책에 힘입어 외연기관의 일종으로 스털링엔진에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 스털링엔진은 크게 ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\gamma}$-type의 3가지 방식으로 구분되어지며 그 중 ${\gamma}$-type 엔진의 설계가 용이하고 다양한 적용이 가능하다는 특징이 있음에도 실린더와 크랭크간의 접속거리 문제로 인하여 ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$-type에 비하여 용적을 크게 차지하는 문제가 있었다. 이를 해결하기 위한 한 방안으로 주로 ${\alpha}$-type에 적용하는 Yoke crank를 응용하면 용적을 줄임과 동시에 실린더의 병렬화에도 유리하다. 금번 연구에서는 기존의 Ross Yoke crank 설계기법에서 개선하여 ${\gamma}$-type 스털링엔진의 Yoke crank 설계를 더욱 단순하고 효율적으로 적용할 수 있는 방법을 제시하였다.

로스해의 Iselin Bank 인근에서 채취한 RS15-GC41코어로부터 규조를 분석한 결과 총 24속 35종의 규조를 감정하였으며, 규조 개체수 농도는 0.2-28.6×10⁶/g 범위에 해당하였다. 규조 군집 조성에 의해 4개의 규조 군집대를 설정하였으며 규조 군집의 변화는 거의 10만년을 주기로 변화 하였다. Marine Isotope Stages 1-11 시기에 RS15-GC41이 퇴적되는 동안 간빙기(Interglacial)에는 open ocean을 지시하는 Rhizosolenia styliformis, Fragilariopsis kerguelensis와 Thalassionema nitzschioides등이 풍부하게 산출되며, 빙기(Glacial)에는 sea-ice종인 Actinocyclus actinocyclus의 산출이 풍부하게 나타난다. MIS 7, 9와 11의 간빙기 동안 MIS 1, 3과 5 시기보다 sea-ice의 분포가 더 넓고 지속 기간이 더 오래 계속되었음을 알 수 있다. Paralia sulcata는 이 시기(MIS 7, 9와 11) 동안 해류에 의한 ice-rafted debris의 유입과 함께 연안지역으로부터 재이동 되었음을 뒷받침 해 준다.

본 연구에서는 남극 로스해 연안에 서식하는 아델리펭귄(Pygoscelis adeliae)과 황제펭귄(Aptenodytes forsteri)의 분변 시료를 기반으로 펭귄 장내 미생물 메타지놈 연구를 수행하였다. Taxonomy 분석 결과, 아델리펭귄과 황제펭귄의 장내 미생물에는 주로 7개의 문(phylum), 18개의 과(family)가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 미생물 다양성을 평가하기 위해 Alpha diversity 및 OTU abundance 분석을 수행한 결과, 전반적으로 아델리펭귄의 장내 미생물 다양성이 황제펭귄보다 높은 것을 확인하였고, PCoA를 기반으로 한 Beta diversity 분석을 통해 두 개체군 간 장내 미생물 군집에 차이가 존재함을 확인하였다. PICRUSt를 활용한 기능적인 차원의 KEGG pathway 분석을 통해서는 아델리펭귄과 황제펭귄 시료에서 nucleoside and nucleotide biosynthesis pathway가 가장 많이 존재하는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구를 통해 남극 아델리펭귄과 황제펭귄의 장내미생물 구성과 다양성을 비교분석 할 수 있었다. 본 연구 결과는 향후 펭귄의 먹이 섭식 관련 연구에 활용될 수 있으며, 더 나아가 다양한 남극 생물의 장내미생물 메타지놈 분석에 대한 기초가 될 수 있을 것이다.

In this paper, we consider the c-sample location problem for ordered alternatives using median ranked ordering-set samples(MROSS). We propose the test statistic using the median of samples that have the same ranked order in each cycle of ranted ordering-set sample(ROSS). We obtain the asymptotic property of the proposed test statistic and Pitman efficiency with respect to other test statistic. In simulation study, our proposed test statistic has good powers for some underlying distributions we consider.

A general software reliability model is developed, which includes the Jelinski-Moranda model, the Goel-Okumoto model, the Shanthikumar model and the Ross model as special cases. In each of above models estimators of the software failure rate and the number of remaining errors are presented and compared in terms of the expected absolute error loss and the expected squared error loss by a Monte Carlo simulation.

Low temperature polysilicon (LTPS) TFT LCOs are in production today at sizes ranging from 0.33" for Viewfinders to 17" for LCD TVs with 21.3" recently demonstrated. Because of their form factor, resolution, brightness and other benefits, LTPS TFT LCD unit shipments, revenues and capacity are expected to grow rapidly, particularly for mobile applications. However, despite the strong outlook, LTPS TFT LCOs are still faced with numerous challenges from a market and technology perspective. LTPS TFT LCD producers were surveyed on which of the current challenges were the most problematic among other questions.

본 연구는 액체가 담긴 직사각형 용기를 회전시켜 spin-up 시킨 뒤 주기적인 외력을 가하여 요동운동 시킬 때, 용기 내에 나타나는 유동을 실험 및 수치해석 방법으로 조사한 것 이 다. 서와 김(1), 서 등(2)은 본 유동 모델의 2차원 수치 해석과 가시화 실험을 통하여 낮은 로스비 수(Ross number)와 레이놀즈 수(Reynolds number)의 유동에 적용할 수 있는 Ekman 분출모델을 제안하였다. (중략)
