  • Water pollution, which is caused by surfactants, is increased by insolubility and excessive uses of detergents. The detergency properties of nine kinds of amphoteric surfactants derived from imidazoline were investigated and compared with sodium lauryl sulfats(SLS) of petrochemical surfactant by using detergent formulations. Several physico-chemical properties were measured to investigate the effective factors on detergency. From the comparision of these compounds with SLS, it was found that 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1- (3-sulfonatedpropyl)-2-undecyl-2-imidazolinum [IV] has the most outstnading characteristics of detergency and various fundamental properties. Therefore, this result is expected to do its environmental stability as a nonpolluting detergent. Detergency process of surfactants were discussed in relation to physico-chemical treatments. Performance improvement on detergency is made work of adhesion to soil as small as possible. Therefore these results show that contamination is easily removed and industrial applications may be respected.

  • This study was designed to analyze the types of concepts about earth science related to seasonal changes, so as to develop a generative learning model focused on dissolving cognitive conflicts between the aforementioned concepts through debates and using said debates to find out how effectively the model works. There are 100 types of earth science concepts concering seasonal changes, 66 of which are unscientific in nature, including misconceptions. Through a second field trial and a research and development (R&D) process, a test on these concepts was developed, consisting of 14 items. For the experimental group, a four-phase generative learning strategy that reflects the types of earth science concepts and cognitive conflicts between such concepts was developed through pre-analysis and discussion, respectively. On the other hand, a traditional teaching and teaming strategy was used for the control group. A meaningful statistic gap found between the two groups through a covariance analysis, the significance level of which was 0.05. This result may be interpreted to mean that the generative teaming strategy is a possible alternative for correcting misconceptions about scientific concepts of seasonal changes.

  • This study is on system building and model case study to establish a new framework of "The Wild and Scenic Rivers System" and to apply this to Korean rivers. The Wild and Scenic Rivers System of the U. S. , which had become law in 1968 for establishing wild scenic and recreational river areas, was investigated. The techniques of two American case studies about the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System designation were investigated and synthesized, and study process was adjusted to Korean river system. Additionally, pilot study was carried out by the method and results were as follows : 1) In the American Wild and Scenic Rivers System, each river was evaluated based on eligibility criteria for designation, such as remarkable scenic, recreational, fish and wildlife, cultural or other ecological values. Segmented river areas were classified into three or four grades and management plans were prepared accordingly. 2) The management of rivers in Korea has emphasized on the flood control and water resources management up to the present, and now takes a growing interest in water quality. But it has been concerned very little with wild and scenic resources conservation of river corridors. It is strongly recommended to build Wild and Scenic Rivers System in Korea for rational management and conservation of the valuable natural resource. 3) Suggested evaluation criteria for the Korean Wild and Scenic Rivers System were wildness, wildlife and plants, hydrology, scenic quality, and historical and cultural resources. The river areas may be graded into four : Positive conservation area(I), Negative conservation area(II), Negative development area(III), Positive development area(IV). Management guidelines were proposed for each grade. 4) To test the applicability of the approach, one of the major tributary of the Han-River was selected for pilot study. The result showed that the evaluation and grading system worked well. Finally, it is recommended to incorporate the Wild and Scenic Rivers System into Korean national park system, and to amend the Korean National Park Act to enable this.

  • In this paper, we work for the efficient use of the initial ranging contention slot in OFDMA based wireless mobile networks. Specially, the collision reduction method using an automatic adaptive optimal algorithm is studied for initial ranging contention slot used at initial connection of the mobile terminals. As a result, we propose the algorithm that achieves the collision minimization and the auto-dynamic slot arrangement of the initial ranging slots. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, we compare the simulation results of IEEE802.16e fixed initial ranging slot allocation method versus the proposed algorithm. The simulator is developed based on the IEEE802.16e standard MAC frame structure and processing procedures. As the simulation results, we can expect the proposed algorithm can be applied for the unmanned coastal base station because the proposed algorithm has the effect of minimizing administration cost for the base station.

  • One of the most popular approaches to parameter adaptation in hidden Markov model (HMM) based systems is the maximum likelihood linear regression (MLLR) technique. In our previous study, we proposed factored MLLR (FMLLR) where each MLLR parameter is defined as a function of a control vector. We presented a method to train the FMLLR parameters based on a general framework of the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. Using the proposed algorithm, supplementary information which cannot be included in the models is effectively reflected in the adaptation process. In this paper, we apply the FMLLR algorithm to a pitch sequence as well as spectrum parameters. In a series of experiments on artificial generation of expressive speech, we evaluate the performance of the FMLLR technique and also compare with other approaches to parameter adaptation in HMM-based speech synthesis.

  • As increase of the land price at downtown area, it makes people more and more interested of improving the space utilization such as makes buildings bigger, deeper and higher. Therefore, the importance of the underground construction which is the basic principle has been increased. As constructors have to complete underground construction as soon as possible with the minimum costs, they concentrate on the whole process of underground structure. Although they makes every these efforts, construction failure still happen because of the uncertainty of the condition of soil and the unexpected danger of underground construction. To make matter worse, there are only some examples without detailed information like 'how much this breakdown damage to the construction?' so it is the anther problem that most of people doesn't recognize the economical negative impact of underground structure breakdown. This report would make people understood the importance and risk of the underground construction by showing some analysis which was assumed from the real accidents.

  • This study investigated the yearly variation of pollutant loads outflowing from six watershed of Yeong-il Bay and compared the relationship of pollutant load and water quality, and estimated the Inner productivity of Yeong-Il Bay by using ${\Delta}COD$ method which analysis nonlinear process of water quality. As the estimated results for the pollutant loads of Yeong-Il Bay, total COD load outflowing from Hyeong-san river in flood season(summer) of 2001 year was 2275.0 kg/hr and in dry(low water) season(winter) 852.8 kg/hr, respectively. Load quantity in flood season was about 2.67 times than that in dry season. And as the calculated results of the net-flux of water for seven divisions, it showed that the net-flux of water increased for the divisions of the north coast and inner sea of Yeong-Il Bay but decreased for the south coast. On the contrary, for the cases which water quantity increase from land, the net-flux of water in estuary front of Hyeong-san river decreased but outflowing quantity of that though division of the south coast of Homi-got increased. Finally, this study compared the Inner productions for flood and dry season of Yeong-il Bay by using ${\Delta}COD$ method.

  • Recent warnings indicate that there is a potential risk of massive earthquake in Japan within 30 years. These earthquakes could produce large-scale tsunamis. Tsunamis are very powerful and can be traveled thousands of miles and caused damage in many countries. Consideration of the effect of tsunami to the moored ship is very important because it brings the loss of life and vast property damage. In this paper, the numerical simulation procedure to analyze the motions of a moored ship due to the observed waves of tsunami, Tokachi-off earthquake tsunami profile in northern Pacific coasts of Japan on September 26 in 2003. And the effects on the motions and mooring loads are investigated by numerical simulation. Numerical simulations consist of hydrodynamic analyses in a frequency domain and ship motion analyses in a time domain as the motions of moored ships are examined. As the process begins, the hydrodynamic and waveexciting forces for moored ships must be calculated. Ship motions and mooring forces can then be calculated by solving the equations of motion. In order to investigate the safety evaluation on the motions of moored ship by tsunami attack, we applied a numerical simulation procedure to a 135,000m3 LNG carrier moored at an offshore sea berth.

  • Objectives: To evaluate the outcome of in vitro studies comparing the effectiveness of QMix irrigant in removing the smear layer in the root canal system compared with other irrigants. Materials and Methods: The research question was developed by using Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome and Study design framework. Literature search was performed using 3 electronic databases PubMed, Scopus, and EBSCOhost until October 2019. Two reviewers were independently involved in the selection of the articles and data extraction process. Risk of bias of the studies was independently appraised using revised Cochrane Risk of Bias tool (RoB 2.0) based on 5 domains. Results: Thirteen studies fulfilled the selection criteria. The overall risk of bias was moderate. QMix was found to have better smear layer removal ability than mixture of tetracycline isonomer, an acid and a detergent (MTAD), sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), and phytic acid. The efficacy was less effective than 7% maleic acid and 10% citric acid. No conclusive results could be drawn between QMix and 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid due to conflicting results. QMix was more effective when used for 3 minutes than 1 minute. Conclusions: QMix has better smear layer removal ability compared to MTAD, NaOCl, Tubulicid Plus, and Phytic acid. In order to remove the smear layer more effectively with QMix, it is recommended to use it for a longer duration.
