  • We fabricated 3-phase 380V 30KVA IGBT-type STATCOM for a medium-scale industrial customer. In this paper, we explain the basic operation of STATCOM. We propose the spec, of STATCOM and its control system and program configuration. Finally, we confirm the waveforms and results of an experiment on a 3-phase RLC load equivalent to the customer.

  • In this paper, we describe implementation of efficient wavelet image compression and decompression system for DVR(Digital Video Recoder). We used various methods to remove time redundancy, spatial redundancy and statistical redundancy of video camera inputs. Motion detection, wavelet transform, RLC(Run Length Coding) and huffman coding techniques are combined for efficient compression / decompression.

  • 본 논문에서는 압전소자를 이용한 에너지 하베스터의 전기적 모델링을 제안하였고 이를 시뮬레이션 및 실험을 통해 비교 분석하였다. 에너지 하베스터는 압전소자를 이용한 발전기, 풀브리지 정류기, 평활용 콘덴서, 부하로 구성된다. 본 논문에서는 에너지 하베스팅 방법으로 Standard AC 방법과 이에 풀브리지 정류기를 추가한 Standard DC 방법을 사용하였고 전기적 모델링, 시뮬레이션, 실험의 분석을 위해 압전 발전기를 RLC 등가모델로 구성하였다. 에너지 하베스터 실험장치를 구성하였으며, 두 가지의 전력변환 기법 각각 $73.7{\mu}W$, $69.3{\mu}W$를 하베스팅 하는 것을 확인하였다.

A Low Close-in Phase Noise 2.4 GHz RF Hybrid Oscillator using a Frequency Multiplier

  • This paper proposes a 2.4 GHz RF oscillator with a very low close-in phase noise performance. This is composed of a low frequency crystal oscillator and three frequency multipliers such as two doubler (X2) and one tripler (X3). The proposed oscillator is implemented as a hybrid type circuit design using a discrete silicon bipolar transistor. The measurement results of the proposed oscillator structure show -115 dBc/Hz close-in phase noise at 10 kHz offset frequency, while only dissipating 5 mW from a 1-V supply. Its close-in phase noise level is very close to that of a low frequency crystal oscillator with little degradation of noise performance. The proposed structure which is consisted of a low frequency crystal oscillator and a frequency multiplier provides new method to implement a low power low close-in phase noise RF local oscillator.

  • In IEC 62305-1 standard, the simple circuit consisting of RLC is used in order to form the fast rise time of 0.25/100 ${\mu}s$. But this circuit is very expensive system because the system is needed very high charging voltage up to 3.5 MV. In this paper, we suggest the generator which generates the current up to 10 kA by using the low charging voltage of the dozen kV. Therefore the generator was installed then we compared measure results with calculated results.

  • This paper proposes a correction method for the error inherently created by time-step approximation in finite element analysis (FEA). For a simple RL and RLC linear circuit, the error in time-step analysis is analytically investigated, and a correction method is proposed for a non-linear system as well as a linear one. Then, for a practical inductor model, linear and non-linear time-step analyses are performed and the calculation results are corrected by the proposed methods. The accuracy of the corrected results is confirmed by comparing the electric input and output powers.

  • PV system's islanding occurs when the uitilty grid is removed but local sources continue to operate and provide power to local loads. Islanding is one of the serious problems in an electric power system connected with dispersed power sources. Also, this can present safety hazards and the possibility of damage to other electric equipments. If the real and reactive power of RLC load and PV system are closely matched, islanding detection by passive methods becomes difficult. Novel islanding detection method is proposed for grid-connected PV system.

  • New circuit D-Q transformation concept is introduced to analyze AC converters such as inverters, rectifiers and cyclo-converters with ease. The equivalent linear time invariant circuit is obtained by substituting switches with equivalent turn-ratio variable transformers and changing balanced AC reactors into equivalent DC reactors combined by gyrators. This circuit enables us to utilize the powerful linear system analysis techniques such as Laplace transform otherwise which could not be applied to the time varying switching systems. Direct substitution of switches of DC converters with transformers is shown as a preliminary. Then the modeling procedure is shown for a controlled rectifier-inverter circuit. Finally an analysis example is proposed for a buck-boost inverter and the result is compared with the conventional approach. This approach is applicable to all AC converter families to determine the AC transfer functions and the DC operating points. It is identified that the switching systems are equivalent to the RLC filter circuits with transformers and gyrators.

Relaxation Characteristic of the Disordered Lead Scandium Niobate

  • The correlation between admittance and dielectric spectroscopy of dielectric relaxation in lead scandium noibate, have been investigated. Lead scandium niobate, with composition $PbSc_{0.5}Nb_{0.5}O_3$, was prepared by conventional solid state synthesis. Conductance Y'(G), susceptance Y"(B) and capacitance C of lead scandium niobate as a function of frequency and temperature were measured. From the temperature-dependence of RLC circuit, insight into physical significance of the dielectric properties of lead scandium niobate is obtained. The relative strong frequency dependent of dielectric properties in lead scandium niobate is observed, and the phase transition occurred at a broad temperature region. Also, the value of critical exponent ${\gamma}$=1.6 showed on heating process. The long relaxation times part enlarged diffuse by conductivity effects with increasing temperature, and the ordering between $Sc^{3+}$ and $Nb^{5+}$ in PSN influences complex admittance and dielectric properties. Confirmed the typical characteristic of lead-type relaxor in the Raman spectra of lead scandium niobate and major ranges are between 400 and $900cm^{-1}$.

  • In this paper the electromagnetic shunt damper was newly employed for vibration suppression of the flexible structures. The electromagnetic shunt damper consists of a coil and a permanent magnet. The ends of the coil were connected to the RLC shunt circuit. The numerical solutions of resonant frequency of the shunt circuits were calculated by using Pspice. The vibration and damping characteristics of the flexible beams with the electromagnetic shunt damper were investigated by tuning the circuit parameters. Also, the effect of the magnetic intensity on the shunt damping was studied with the variation of the gap between the aluminum beam and the permanent magnet. Present results show that the magnet shunt damper can be successfully applied to reduce the vibration of the flexible structures.
