Effect of waste components on performance of acidogenic fermenter (음식물쓰레기의 구성성분에 따른 산발효조의 거동특성)

  • The previous studies showed that rumen microorganisms had an enhanced waste-degrading capability and controlling the dilution rate was very effective in improving acidification efficiency. Generally the composition of food waste has a small deviation value, but one of the waste components (grains, vegetables or meats) can be increased dramatically depending on a seasonal variation. Thus, it is important to evaluate the efficiency of acidogenic fermentation in this case. Each component was spiked to be 80% of the total waste in R1 (grains), R2(vegetables), and R3 (meats). In Rl, rapid degradation occurred during the initial two days. R2 showed similar performance to that of general food waste. In R3, degradation retarded in the initial stage and then increased after controlling the dilution rate. The acidification efficiencies of the reactors were 88.7 (R1), 73.5 (R2), and 62.1% (R3), respectively. Therefore, the fermentation efficiency was kept over 62% regardless of waste components, indicating that it was stable to acidify food waste by employing rumen microorganisms and controlling the dilution rate.

Chemical Properties of Barley Leaf Using Different Drying Methods (건조방법을 달리한 보리 잎의 이화학적 특성)

  • Chemical properties of barley leaf were investigated using different drying methods. Moisture contents of barley leaf were 75.22%, 7.54%, 2.57%, 6.74% and 8.91% for samples dried using raw, hot-air dryer, freeze dryer, shade dryer, vacuum freeze dryer and microwave dryer, respectively. Mineral contents were high Ca, Mg, Na, P, and K in barley leaf regardless of drying methods. Organic acid contents were oxalic acid, acetic acid, citric acid and fumaric acid with no differences between drying methods. Contents of vitamin C were 142.56 mg%, 629.23 mg%, 598.48 mg%, 657.62 mg% and 724.34 mg% for samples using raw, hot-air dryer, freeze dryer, shade dryer, vacuum freeze dryer and microwave dryer, respectively. Chlorophyll contents of barley leaf dried by hot-air dryer and shade dryer were higher than in that of freeze dryer and microwaves dryer. b-values were lower in freeze dryer than in that of other dried methods.

Aflatoxin Production by Aspergillus parasiticus NRRL 2999 in Various Varieties of Soybeans (Aspergillus parasiticus에 의한 대두품종별(大豆品種別) Aflatoxin 생성)

  • Aflatoxin production by Aspergillus parasiticus NRRL 2999 with two different levels of inoculum sizes ($10^2$ and $10^6$ spores) was studied on such varieties of soybeans produced in Korea as Bongeui, Hwang Keum, Jangbaek, Danyeop, Jangyeop and Namcheon. With the inoculum size of $10^2$ spores/10 g of soybeans, there were statistically difference (p<0.05) on the production of aflatoxins in the varieties of soybeans. The variety of Namcheon produced 7 times higher amount of aflatoxin $B_1$ than that of Bongeui. The variety of Jangyeop produced the highest level of aflatoxin $G_1$ among the varieties employed. Namcheon and Jangyeop were the varieties which supported high amounts of aflatoxins. Much higher levels of aflatoxins were obtained on the soybeans than on rice in general with the inoculum size of $10^2$ spores. With the inoculum size of $10^6$ spores/10 g of soybeans, significantly lower levels of aflatoxins were synthesized by the mold than those with $10^2$ spores. The variety of Namcheon resulted in the lowest production of aflatoxin $B_1$ while Hwangkeum was the variety that produced highest amount of aflatoxin $B_1$. There were no significant differences within the varieties on the production of aflatoxin $G_1$ by the mold except the variety of Hwangkeum. Lower quantities of aflatoxin $B_1$ were produced by the mold en the soybeans than on rice with the inoculum size of $10^6$ spores.

  • The fiber dispersion performance in fiber-reinforced cementitious composites is a crucial factor with respect to achieving desired mechanical performance. However, evaluation of the fiber dispersion performance in the composite PVA-ECC (Polyvinyl alcohol-Engineered Cementitious Composite) is extremely challenging because of the low contrast of PVA fibers with the cement-based matrix. In the present work, an enhanced fiber detection technique is developed and demonstrated. Using a fluorescence technique on the PVA-ECC, PVA fibers are observed as green dots in the cross-section of the composite. After capturing the fluorescence image with a Charged Couple Device (CCD) camera through a microscope. The fibers are more accurately detected by employing a series of process based on a categorization, watershed segmentation, and morphological reconstruction.

An Image and Visual Characteristics Analysis of Gyeongju Daereungwon Area Using Virtual Walkthrough (Virtual Walkthrough를 이용한 경주 대릉원지구의 경관이미지 및 시각적 특성 분석)

  • This study takes the Gyeongju Historic Areas Daereungwon Area as the research object, uses the Virtual Walkthrough method for virtual experience and evaluation, the visual characteristics were analyzed. To analyze landscape visual characteristics and to find out the relationship between image factors and visual preferences, the factor analysis and multiple regression analysis were conducted. The results are as follows: the results of preference analysis of the Daereungwon Area show that the preference of scene3 where located on the western boundary of Noseo-rl tumuli got the highest score, and the preference score of scene5 where located on the western boundary of Daereungwon less than three points. The results of factor analysis of visual characteristics, three factors were analyzed: regularity factor, spatiality factor and historical factor. The analysis of variance and multiple regression analysis results of the relationship between factor scores and visual preferences show that regularity factor was analyzed as the biggest factor that affects the visual preference of the Historical-cultural landscape Daereungwon Area. Virtual Walkthrough method has a strong three-dimensional and strong production of the real landscape scene, it's an effective method in landscape analysis. The results of research provides data and information for improving the visual quality of Historical-cultural landscape and it's expected to be applied in the future of landscape planning.

Sarcopenia and Smoking: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis (근감소증과 흡연: 체계적 문헌고찰 및 메타분석)

  • This study performed meta-analysis of published articles to examine the relationship between sarcopenia and smoking. We searched the PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane library, and RISS database sup to January 2017 using search terms such as sarcopenia AND (smoking OR tobacco OR cigarette). A total of 25 articles were included in the analysis (seven cohort studies and 18 cross-sectional studies). Incidence of sarcopenia in smokers and non-smokers was analyzed by the random effects model. Incidence of sarcopenia was OR 1.49 (95% CI 1.21, 1.84, p<.001, I2 = 88.20%), Asian (OR 1.28, 95% CI 0.91, 1.78, p=0.150, I2=85.32%), and Western (OR 1.65, 95% CI 1.25, 2.17, p<.001, I2=91.08%), Western smokers showed a significantly higher incidence of sarcopenia:males and females with OR 1.25(95% CI 1.11, 1.40, p<.001, 12=87.4%) and 1.80(95% CI 0.98, 3.30, p=.057, 12=89.1 %) respectively. Male smokers showed significantly higher incidence of sarcopenia. Based on the results of the study, smoking in Western males is related to sarcopenia. However, since the criteria for the diagnosis of sarcopenia and the criteria for smoking were different, cumulative individual clinical studies applying uniform assessment for the evaluation of sarcopenia and smoking status are needed in the future.

  • The circuit of the EEFL system and the inverter has been analyzed into the resistance RL, the capacitance C of the EEFL-backlight system, and the inductance of transformer in the inverter. The lamp resistance and capacitance are deter-mined from the phase difference is between the lamp current and voltage and from the Q-V diagram, respectively. The single Lamp of EEFL for 32' LCD-BLU has the resistance of $66\;k\Omega$ and the capacitance of 21.61 pF. The resistance, which is connected by parallel in the 20-EEFLS BLU, is $3.3\;k\Omega$ and the capacitance is 402.1 pF. The matching frequency in the operation of lamp system is noted as $\omega_M=1/\sqrt{L_2C(1-k^2)}$, where $L_2$ is the inductance of secondary coil and k is the coupling coefficient between primary and secondary coil. The lamp current and voltage has maximum value at the matching frequency in the LCD BLU system. The results of analytic solutions are in good agreement with the experimental results.

Aquatic Insects Fauna and Characteristics of Distribution on Jeju Island Wetlands (제주도 습지의 수서곤충상과 분포 특성)

  • This study was conducted for searching the fauna, altitudinal distribution, and food patterns of the aquatic insects on Jeju island. The samples were collected from 102 freshwater wetlands during 2004 to 2008. The identified species were 100 belonged to 73 genera, 32 families, and 7 orders. One species of the genus Ephemeroptera, 23 of the Odonata, 1 of the Plecoptera, 23 of the Hemiptera, 47 of the Coleoptera, 3 of the Trichoptera, and 2 of the Diptera were identified in this study. The most widely distributed species was Sigara substriata, which was followed by Crocothemis servilia, Orthetrum albistylum, Gerris latiabdominis, and Anisops ogasawarensis. Sixteen species including Gynacantha japonica were very restrictedly distributed, which were sampled from only one site, respectively. The restrictedly distributed species (R) were classified into three altitudinal ranges, low (L), middle (M), and high (H). Ten species including Ranatra unicolor were RL type, only one species, Berosus japonicus, was RM, and 6 species including Nemoura KUb were RH. Narrowly distributed species (N) were 44 including Lethocerus deyrollei and intermediately distributed species (I) were 18 including Hesperocorixa distanti, and widely distributed species (W) were 21 including Nepa hoffmanni. According food uptake patterns, 75 species were carnivores, 18 herbivores, 5 omnivores, and 2 detritivores. Especially almost W were carnivores. From these results, we could concluded that the most aquatic insects species of Jeju island were characterized by their very limited altitudinal distribution range and carnivorous preference.

Analysis of TTD Phase Delay Error and Its Effect on Phased Array Antenna due to Impedance Mismatch (위상 배열 안테나 임피던스 부정합에 따른 실시간 지연회로의 위상 지연 오차 및 영향 분석)

  • It is well known that reflected waves and resonance affect phase distortion. In addition, phase delay can be distorted by antenna impedance. In this study, we analyze the phase delay variation caused by the antenna impedance, considering mutual coupling effects. In addition, we confirm the beam steering characteristics. When was -10 dB and -7 dB, the maximum phase delay error was $18.5^{\circ}$ and $26.5^{\circ}$, respectively. The Monte Carlo simulation with an eight-element linear array antenna demonstrated that the RMS error of the beam steering angle ranged from $0.19^{\circ}$ to $0.4^{\circ}$, and the standard deviation ranged from $0.14^{\circ}$ to $0.33^{\circ}$ when the beam steering angle was in the range of $0^{\circ}$ to $30^{\circ}$, with the uniformly distributed phase error of $18.5^{\circ}$ and $26.5^{\circ}$. The side lobe level increased from 0.74 dB to 1.21 dB by the phase error from the theoretical value of -12.8 dB, with a standard deviation of 0.31 dB to 0.51 dB. This is verified by designing an eight-element spiral array antenna.

Grasping a Target Object in Clutter with an Anthropomorphic Robot Hand via RGB-D Vision Intelligence, Target Path Planning and Deep Reinforcement Learning (RGB-D 환경인식 시각 지능, 목표 사물 경로 탐색 및 심층 강화학습에 기반한 사람형 로봇손의 목표 사물 파지)

  • Grasping a target object among clutter objects without collision requires machine intelligence. Machine intelligence includes environment recognition, target & obstacle recognition, collision-free path planning, and object grasping intelligence of robot hands. In this work, we implement such system in simulation and hardware to grasp a target object without collision. We use a RGB-D image sensor to recognize the environment and objects. Various path-finding algorithms been implemented and tested to find collision-free paths. Finally for an anthropomorphic robot hand, object grasping intelligence is learned through deep reinforcement learning. In our simulation environment, grasping a target out of five clutter objects, showed an average success rate of 78.8%and a collision rate of 34% without path planning. Whereas our system combined with path planning showed an average success rate of 94% and an average collision rate of 20%. In our hardware environment grasping a target out of three clutter objects showed an average success rate of 30% and a collision rate of 97% without path planning whereas our system combined with path planning showed an average success rate of 90% and an average collision rate of 23%. Our results show that grasping a target object in clutter is feasible with vision intelligence, path planning, and deep RL.
