Design of Micro-structured Small Scale Energy Harvesting System for Pervasive Computing Applications (편재형 컴퓨팅을 위한 미세구조 에너지 하베스팅 시스템의 구조 설계)

  • In this paper, we designed micro-structured electromagnetic transducers for energy harvesting and verified the performance of proposed transducers using finite element analysis software, COMSOL Multiphysics. To achieve higher energy transduce efficiency, around the magnetic core material, three-dimensional micro-coil structures with high number of turns are fabricated using semiconductor fabrication process technologies. To find relations between device size and energy transduce efficiency, generated electrical power values of seven different sizes of transducers ($3{\times}3\;mm^2$, $6{\times}6\;mm^2$, $9{\times}9\;mm^2$, $12{\times}12\;mm^2$, $15{\times}15\;mm^2$, $18{\times}18\;mm^2$, and $21{\times}21\;mm^2$) are analyzed on various magnetic flux density environment ranging from 0.84 T to 1.54 T and it showed that size of $15{\times}15\;mm^2$ device can generate $991.5\;{\mu}W$ at the 8 Hz of environmental kinetic energy. Compare to other electromagnetic energy harvesters, proposed system showed competitive performance in terms of power generation, operation bandwidth and size. Since proposed system can generate electric power at very low frequency of kinetic energy from typical life environment including walking and body movement, it is expected that proposed system can be effectively applied to various pervasive computing applications including power source of embodied medical equipment, power source of RFID sensors and etc. as an secondary power sources.

  • 지능형교통시스템 (Intelligent Transportation System: ITS) 은 도로 및 교통관리, 교통정보제공, 대중교통 및 화물차량의 운영 등 교통의 전 분야에 걸쳐 정보통신 기술, 센서 및 제어 기술을 접목함으로써 교통의 효율화와 물류비용의 절감을 목표로 하고 있다. 특히, 최근에는 전자 및 통신 기술 등 첨단기술을 활용하여 현행 교통체계를 첨단화하기 위한 노력이 빠르게 진행되고 있으며, ITS는 최근 위치정보의 폭넓은 보급과 유 무선통신기술의 발전에 따라 위치정보서비스, 텔레매틱스 서비스 등과의 결합을 통해 새로운 비즈니스 모델들을 탄생시키고 있다. 또한 기존에 중점적으로 추진되어 왔던 도로 및 차량 영역뿐만 아니라 ITS 아키텍처를 구성하는 다양한 하위 시스템들간의 통신 및 정보체계 표준화와 관계된 기술, 시스템, 서비스 등의 시장이 형성되기 시작하고 있다. 이중에서도 최근에는 이동통신기술의 발전과 복합단말의 발전을 통해 통합된 기능을 갖는 이동전화, PDA, 스마트단말 등의 개인단말 뿐만 아니라 도로와 차량내의 통신을 위한 차량탑재형 단말 등의 보급으로 단거리 무선통신기술과 스마트차드 기술을 이용한 자동요금징수시스템, 위치정보기술을 이용한 위치기반서비스, GPS를 이용하여 실시간 교통정보 서비스가 가능한 텔레매틱스 서비스 등은 본격적으로 시장을 형성해 나가고 있다. 이는 기존의 ITS 분야가 ETCS(Electric Toll Collection System), AVHS(Advanced Vehicle & Highway System), CVO(Commercial Vehicle Operation)등 교통 인프라에 초점을 맞추고 있었으나 그동안의 수익모델 부재 등으로 인해 사업자들의 적극적인 투자가 이루어지지 않아 ITS 시장 활성화에 어려움이 있어 왔다는 점을 고려해 볼 때 최근 위치정보를 이용한 사용자 서비스를 통해 민간 기업의 투자 참여와 일반 사용자들의 ITS 에 대한 관심이 매우 높아지고 있다는 점은 ITS 시장의 확대에 있어 매우 긍정적인 요인될 것으로 예상되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 ITS의 세계적인 개발 및 투자 추세, 국내의 추진 동향을 통해 살펴보고 이에 따른 국내 적용에 대한 시사점을 살펴보았다.

  • 최근에 개발된 출입문 시스템은 출입자의 신원과 출입시간을 정확하게 기록할 뿐만 아니라 방문자에게 일시적인 출입권한을 동적으로 부여하기도 한다. 이러한 기능은 스마트폰에 NFC 카드 에뮬레이션 기능이 탑재되기 시작하면서 가능해졌다. RFID와 달리 스마트폰에 탑재된 NFC는 출입할 때마다 변경되는 전자키를 전달 할 수 있고 출입키 이외에 여러 가지 정보를 전달할 수도 있다. 이는 매우 강력한 보안기능을 구현할 수 있는 토대가 될 뿐만 아니라 더욱 다양한 기능을 출입문에 부여할 수 있는 기반 기술이 된다. 본 논문에서는 오프라인 단말기와 스마트폰을 이용한 출입시스템을 제안한다. 오프라인 단말기란 출입문에 부착된 NFC 단말기가 오프라인 상태, 즉 외부로 통신이 연결되지 않은 상태에 있는 것을 의미한다. 본 시스템은 출입문 단말기에 출입자의 정보를 등록하지 않고 동적으로 출입자를 추가하거나 삭제할 수 있어 비정기적인 방문자를 위한 출입시스템을 구현하기에 매우 유리하다. 또한, 본 시스템은 오프라인 단말기를 이용하지만 온라인 단말기를 이용한 시스템과 동일한 기능을 구현할 수 있다. 단말기에 통신라인을 연결하지 않음에도 불구하고 기존 온라인 단말기를 이용한 출입 시스템에서 가능했던 출입자 실시간 등록과 출입사항 기록 및 실시간 조회 기능을 모두 구현할 수 있게 된 것이다. 온라인 단말기 기반의 출입 시스템 보다 유지보수가 쉽고 저렴한 출입시스템을 구현할 수 있다는 것은 본 논문에 제안한 방식의 강점이다.

Effects of Simultaneous Bending and Heating on Characteristics of Flexible Organic Thin Film Transistors

  • Recently, active materials such as amorphous silicon (a-Si), poly crystalline silicon (poly-Si), transition metal oxide semiconductors (TMO), and organic semiconductors have been demonstrated for flexible electronics. In order to apply flexible devices on the polymer substrates, all layers should require the characteristic of flexibility as well as the low temperature process. Especially, pentacene thin film transistors (TFTs) have been investigated for probable use in low-cost, large-area, flexible electronic applications such as radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, smart cards, display backplane driver circuits, and sensors. Since pentacene TFTs were studied, their electrical characteristics with varying single variable such as strain, humidity, and temperature have been reported by various groups, which must preferentially be performed in the flexible electronics. For example, the channel mobility of pentacene organic TFTs mainly led to change in device performance under mechanical deformation. While some electrical characteristics like carrier mobility and concentration of organic TFTs were significantly changed at the different temperature. However, there is no study concerning multivariable. Devices actually worked in many different kinds of the environment such as thermal, light, mechanical bending, humidity and various gases. For commercialization, not fewer than two variables of mechanism analysis have to be investigated. Analyzing the phenomenon of shifted characteristics under the change of multivariable may be able to be the importance with developing improved dielectric and encapsulation layer materials. In this study, we have fabricated flexible pentacene TFTs on polymer substrates and observed electrical characteristics of pentacene TFTs exposed to tensile and compressive strains at the different values of temperature like room temperature (RT), 40, 50, $60^{\circ}C$. Effects of bending and heating on the device performance of pentacene TFT will be discussed in detail.

Development of NFC Mobile Application for Information on Textile Materials (패션소재 정보 전달을 위한 NFC 모바일 어플리케이션 개발)

  • Convergence of IT devices and fashion is enabling the industry to take fully different approaches in various areas including product planning, fabric selecting, distributing, and marketing. At the same time, it also transforms the definition of clothing itself. Convergence of IT technologies in the realm of fashion and textiles industries can create a powerful synergy through connection digital devices, such as mobile phone. In this context, this study attempts to suggest how IT technology can be efficiently harnessed through the usage of mobile devices in the planning stage of fashion materials, where the initial production plan of a clothing item is mapped out. This study ultimately aims to enhance the effectiveness of databases on fashion material information by using mobile devices to utilize NFC, an RFID technology having as much revolutionary power as Internet - which can be the convergence between IT and fashion across the software dimensions. To pursue this research, data on fashion material information regarding 200 woven fabric specimens were provided by textile companies. The information includes elements such as its composition, weight, width, yarn, density and sales report. These pieces of information were organized into a database. Drawing on this data, Android-based applications that allow smart phones to read off fabric information from NFC tags were developed for this study using two methods. The system works as follows: 1. NFC tag stickers are attached onto the hangers where 200 fabric samples are hanging. 2. The NFC tag stickers are tagged, or read off from a smart phone that support NFC functions. 3. Upon tagging, the Smart phone swiftly displays all information available on its screen - not only the aforementioned six elements, but also the image of the clothing item from the fabric in its finalized product form, and the video of the model wearing the item - for convenient view. The method harbors immense potential for the fashion industry in general, and will also be useful in those fields inside the industry that harness NFC technology.

Operating Characteristic Analysis of Optic Temperature Sensor for Overheat Detection in Panel Board (분전함에서 이상발열 감지를 위한 광온도센서의 동작특성 분석)

  • In this study, methods of overheat detection at the coupling or wire in electrical facility are investigated, operating characteristic about the optic temperature sensor for continuous on-line temperature monitoring in diagnostics system of electrical facility is analyzed. Heating sources in the experiment for operating characteristics of optic temperature sensor use black body and hot plate, output voltage of optic temperature sensor in accordance with temperature variation is analyzed. Overheat generation due to poor contact at the circuit breaker in panel board detects using a thermocouple, infrared thermal camera and optic temperature sensor, and experiment results are analyzed. The effect of optic temperature sensor is the same that of other methods. These results expect to use basic research material for adjusting field of electrical diagnostics system using RFID type optic temperature sensor in the near future.

A Study on the Using Situation in Korea and Suggestions for Improvement of INCOTERMS (우리나라 무역업계의 INCOTERMS 사용현황과 개정방향에 관한 고찰)

  • INCOTERMS have been changed almost every 10 years since ICC established INCOTERMS as trade terms for International transaction. Recently transportation has become bigger, and modernized by means of electronic appliances such as RFID, IT, and containerization. FRC, FOR/FOT, FOA were added in INCOTERMS1980 and every conditions are unified into three alphabets in INCOTERMS1990. The best features of INCOTERMS2000 are that FCA substitute FRC, FOR/FOT, FOA and customs formalities were simplified to make clear for each party of contract. It seems that business circles still stick to old customs of their trade like FOB or CIF not only in Korea but in an international practice even though there have been several revisions of INCOTERMS until now. ICC have tried to provide INCOTERMS3000 to solve problems between a theory and an actual condition of international trade. This study has tried to suggest opinions against INCOTERMS3000 and has surveyed a recognition, an actual using situation and issues of INCOTERMS to get improvements. For a recognition of INCOTERMS has been spread as you can find at tables many kinds of business circles still stick to old customs of their trade terms FOB and CIF. Now there are two alternative plans. Firstly, we need to suggest improvements against inconsistency of INCOTERMS to be applied on newly revised INCOTERMS3000 and educating business circles to use proper conditions of INCOTERMS for their doing business. Secondly, we shall participate in revising INCOTERMS to activate multimodal transport conditions of INCOTERMS and provide solutions to fill gap between a theory and an actual condition of international trade. It seems that terms of multimodal transport such as FCA, CPT, or CIP can be a perfect condition for each party of contract. We have examined the inconsistent features of Ship's rail and notions of on board, and observed how to activate multimodal transport terms. These would be hot issues of next revision of INCOTERMS and we provided improvements on each trade terms, THC charges, or others against INCOTERMS.

Smart Parking System Using Ultrasonic Sensor and Bluetooth Communication in Internet of Things (사물인터넷에서 초음파 센서와 블루투스 통신을 이용한 스마트 주차 시스템)

  • IoT (Internet of Things) technologies have largely contributed to our smart living environment. The smart parking system is one of the prominent services that IoT supports. To identify the parked vehicles, the previous parking system use special identifying devices, the RFID tags carried by the users, and the high quality camera to recognize the vehicle license numbers. However, the previous methods cause cost inefficiency and unfriendly usages. To address these problems, we propose a smart parking system based on ultrasonic sensors and Bluetooth communication. The proposed system decides the available slots by using the sensor motes located in the parking spaces. Also it recognizes the location of the parked vehicle using Bluetooth RSSI between a Smartphone and the sensor motes. In addition, based on these converging technologies, it can support the parked routes of vehicles for users. To evaluate the implemented smart parking system, we applied the RSSI transform equations and the recognition rate for parked vehicles. As a result, the accurate rate of transformed distances could be measured.

The Application and Analysis of the Embedded Programming Education Based on UML and LabVIEW OOP (UML과 LabVIEW OOP를 기반으로 한 내장형 프로그래밍 교육의 적용 방안 및 분석)

  • The students who learn the computer languages think it very difficult to program using the text-based programming languages and also to learn the object-oriented programming. Therefore, we introduce the object-oriented visual programming into the programming education. And, to solve the this problem in the programming education, in this paper, we introduce the UML to support the object-oriented modeling and to teach the students using the LabVIEW OOP that supports the object-oriented visual programming. And, we propose to apply it on the embedded programming education. Also, we analyze the educational effect of the proposed education methodology of programming based on the student survey.

  • Recently, in the flow of the digital convergence and u-IT technology development, USN is expected to play a leading role. Currently, it is considered as a previous stage of an activation phase in the life cycle. However, the remarkable growth is predicted in the future. Therefore the political concern and the support are desperately needed for USN to be the core growth engine of the future IT industry. Thus, in this research, we present the condition of the national USN industry by the actual conditions of industry in 2006. And the political suggestion for the new industry monitoring element and essential element of strategy is drawn to contribute to the early activation of the national USN industry.
