A study on the short-range underwater communication using visible LEDs (근거리 수중통신을 위한 가시광 LED 적용에 관한 연구)

  • Robust and high speed underwater communication is severely limited when compared to communications in terrestial. In free space, RF communication operates over long distances at high data rates. However, the obstacle in seawater is the severe attenuation due to the conducting nature. Acoustic modems are capable of long range communication up to several tens of kilometers, but it has low data-rate, high power consumption and low propagation speed. An alternative means of underwater communication is based on optics, wherein high data rates are possible. In this paper, the characteristics of underwater channel in the range of visible wavelength is investigated. And the possibility of optical wireless communication in underwater is also described. The LED-based transceiver and CMOS sensor module are integrated in the system, and the performance of image transmission was demonstrated.

  • The key technologies of GNSS receiver for GNSS sensor station are under development as a part of a GNSS ground station in ETRI. This paper presents the GNSS receiver implementation and signal processing result which is implemented based on FPGA to process the Galileo E1 and E5 signal. To verify the working and performance for GNSS receiver which is implemented based on FPGA, live signal received from GIOVE-B which is second test satellite is used. We gather GIOVE-B signal by using prototyping antenna and RF/IF units including IF-component. To verify Galileo E1 and E5 signal processing function from GIOVE-B, FPGA based signal processing module is implemented as a prototyping hardware board.

  • The electronic float flow pattern system can predict a rate of flow of river by monitoring a location of float in remote with location measurement technology and a variety of communication technology. Now, to analyze the flow pattern of the natural streams, we use the manual floats in many forms. The measurement of a rate of flow using a manual float measures the distance and time of the manual float directly and uses it. It is inefficient for measurement method and exact a rate of flow of river. To overcome this problems, we designed and implemented the electronic float using CDMA, GPS, and RF module. Then, to get the location information and a rate of flow information, we designed and implemented the monitoring system for the electronic float flow pattern. The short life cycle of electronic float using the battery decreases the utility of the electronic float flow pattern system. Then, we design the power saving method to reduce the power of the electronic float in electronic float flow pattern system.

  • In this paper, Qualification Model of frequency synthesizer is designed for X-band SAR system and performed electrical and environment test. Designed frequency synthesizer generate 13.65 GHz with very low phase noise performance. The integrated phase noise from 10Hz to 1MHz is -37.91 dBc. IRF performances are analyzed according to phase noise and jitter. Also, thermal and structure analysis are achieved for stable operation in space environment. Designed frequency synthesizer is consist of 2 modules of 6U size and generate L-band, C-band, Ku-band. The result of this study would enhance the design ability of RF module and help the frequency synthesizer design for SAR payload system.

A Development of the High-Performance Signal Processor for the Compact Millimeter Wave Radar (소형 밀리미터파 레이더를 위한 고성능 신호처리기 개발)

  • Recently, small radar has been reduced in size and power consumption to cope with various operating environments. It also requires the development of a small millimeter wave radar with high range resolution to disable the system of target with a single strike. In this paper, we design and implement a signal processor that can be used in small millimeter wave radar. The signal processor for the small millmeter wave radar is designed with a digital IF(Intermediate Frequency) receiver and DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) module capable of real time FFT operation for miniaturization and low power consumption. Also it was to leverage the FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) and DAC(Digital Analog Converter) as a means for correcting the distortion of signals that can occur in the receive path of the small millimeter wave radar to create a RF signal that is used by the system.   • As for satellite programs, the multipurpose satellite 1(KOMPSAT-1) was successfully launched on Dec. 21, 1999 and operated for three years. It is still properly operated even though its life cycle was ended. The development of KOMPSAT-2 (Korea Multipurpose Satellite-2) is near completion and the development of KOMPSAT-3, KOMPSAT-5 and COMS (Communication, Ocean, Meterological Satellite) are proceeding swiftly. In KORDI(Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute), the KOSC (Korea Ocean Satellite Center) construction project is being prepared for acquisition, processing and distribution of sensor data via L-band from GOCI(Geostationary Ocean Color Imager) instrument which is loaded on COMS(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite); it will be launched in 2000. Ansan(the headquarter of KORDD has been selected for the location of KOSC between 5 proposed sites, because it has the best condition to receive radio wave. The data acquisition system is classified antenna and RF. Antenna is designed to be ${\emptyset}$ 9m cassegrain antenna which has 19.35 $G/T(dB/^{\circ}K)$ at 1.67GHz, RF module, is divided into LNA(Low noise amplifier) and down converter, those are designed to send only horizontal polarization to modem The existing building is re-designed and classified for the KOSC operation concept; computing room, board of electricity, data processing room, operation room Hardware and network facilities have been designed to adapt for efficiency of each functions. The distribution system which is one of the most important systems will be constructed mainly on the internet, and it is also being considered constructing outer data distribution system as a web hosting service for to offering received data to user under an hour.

  • This paper reviews the current development of an ultra-slim SiP for Radio Frequency (RF) application, in which three flip chips, additional passive components and Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters are integrated side-by-side. A systematic investigation is carried out for the design optimization, process and reliability improvement of the package, which comprises several aspects: a design study based on the 3D thermo-mechanical finite element analysis of the packaging, the determination of stress, warpage distribution, critical failure zones, and the figuration of the effects of material properties, process conditions on the reliability of package. The optimized material sets for manufacturing process were determined which can reduce the number of testing samples from 75 to 2. In addition the molded underfilling (MUF) process is proposed which not only saves one manufacturing process, but also improves the thermo-mechanical performance of the package compared with conventional epoxy underfilling process. In the end, JEDEC's moisture sensitivity test, thermal cycle test and pressure cooker tests have also been carried out for reliability evaluation. The test results show that the optimized ultra-slim SiP has a good reliability performance.

Implementation of π/4-DQPSK Modem for Maritime Digital Communication in VHF Band (VHF 대역 해상 디지털 통신용 π/4-DQPSK 모뎀 구현)

  • Rec. ITU-R M.1842-1 is international recommendation for VHF band communication guideline in maritime mobile service RR Appendix 18 channels. In this paper, we simulate 28.8 kbps VHF ${\pi}$/4-DQPSK digital baseband modem compatible with the recommendation, then it is designed and implemented with FPGA. Cazac sequence is used as a preamble since packet format is not defined untill now in the recommendation. Baseband modem is designed by VHDL language and implemented on NEXYS4 development platform having Atrix7 FPGA chip from Xilinx. For wireless communication test of total prototype system, ADC/DAC board is implemented and EV9730 RF module is utilized. From the experimental results, implemented FPGA modem shows spectral bandwidth of 25 kHz and successful data exchanges between tx and rx communication platform.

  • Recently, Virtual reality parts is applied in various fields of industry. In this paper we got under control motion of reality robot from interface manipulation in the virtual world. This paper created virtual robot using of 3D Graphic Tool. And we reappeared a similar image with reality robot put on texture the use of components of Direct 3D Graphic. Also a reality robot and a virtual robot is controlled by joystick. The developed robot consists of robot controller with vision system and host PC program. The robot and camera can move with 2 degree of freedom by independent remote controlling a user friendly designed joystick. An environment is recognized by the vision system and ultra sonic sensors. The visual mage and command data translated through 900MHz and 447MHz RF controller, respectively. If user send robot control command the use of simulator to control the reality robot, the transmitter/recever got under control until 500miter outdoor at the rate of 4800bps a second in Hlaf Duplex method via radio frequency module useing 447MHz frequency.

  • This paper presents an implementation methodology of common Rf- integrated PCS base station system which, is capable of providing PCS services for 3 PCS carriers concurrently and wireless system performance evaluation data is shown. We have built up a common PCS base station system using a commonization module, which is consisted of a multi-channel combiner, duplexer, LNA, power divider, feeder line, and a common set of antennas. It was shown that the performance of the system within the total 30MHz PCS frequency range is uniformly acceptable and measured signal quality and coverage are equivalent to that of the individual PCS base station. It is expected that PCS carriers are able to save a huge amount of installation and maintenance expenses by installing and sharing this base station system. This paper forms a groundwork for deploying efficient and economical IMT-2000 network.
