  • In the Bluetooth piconet in which up to 7 slave devices can be connected simultaneously at one network instance, the wireless data expected to be sent over to the RF interface should be sliced by the unit of 1 micrometer, which is a requirement in the specification of the Bluetooth version 1.1. In this contribution, we have designed a digital low-pass filter which is able to slice the unstable analog signal fed from the RF interface to the Baseband, by the uniform unit of 1 micrometer, and is also capable of removing the possible noise which can be caused by the analog circuit system. The low-pass filter operated well in the various modes of the Bluetooth RF embedded Baseband chip such as sleep mode, normal mode, and high-speed mode at 12MHz, 24MHz, and 48MHz respectively.

  • In this paper, we studied the method for analyzing and estimating the parameters that induce I/Q imbalance in the repeater using direct conversion RF. In repeater, amplitude, phase, and filter mismatch are generated in the receiving-end which converts RF signal to baseband signal. And amplitude and phase mismatch are generated in the transmitting-end which converts baseband signal to RF signal. Accordingly, we modeled the parameters that cause I/Q imbalance in the structure of the repeater in order, and proposed a feedback test structure from the transmitting-end to the receiving-end for estimating the corresponding parameters. By comparing the test transmitting signal and received signal, it is possible to estimate the I/Q imbalance parameters which occurred from mixed components of real and imaginary part. And it was confirmed that I/Q imbalance phenomenon has been properly compensated with estimated parameters at the direct conversion RF repeater.

  • With the rapid development of RF based high speed wireless communication technology, devices that can be applied to IoT networks based on RF bandwidth are rapidly spreading, nevertheless, the development speed of the RF communication is not possible to keep up with the spread of the RF band for wireless communication. In this situation, OWC technology that uses visible light source as a transmitter is attracting attention as a technology that can overcome the band exhaustion problem of RF based wireless communication technology. Although, due to the distortion of the LED illumination shape by camera exposure time and LED blinking period, the LED illumination detection rate is degraded and the RoI setting is inaccurate. In this paper, we propose an adaptive median filter applied LED illumination detection algorithm for low rate CamCom, it is possible to detect a clear RoI and LED illumination. This research will be able to play a role as a complementary material of RF based wireless communication technology efficiently.

  • A 41dB gain control range $6^{th}$-order band-pass receiver front-end (RFE) using CMOS switched frequency translated impedance (FTI) is presented in a 40 nm CMOS technology. The RFE consists of a frequency tunable RF band-pass filter (BPF), IQ gm cells, and IQ TIAs. The RF BPF has wide gain control range preserving constant filter Q and pass band flatness due to proposed pre-distortion scheme. Also, the RF filter using CMOS switches in FTI blocks shows low clock leakage to signal nodes, and results in low common mode noise and stable operation. The baseband IQ signals are generated by combining baseband Gm cells which receives 8-phase signal outputs down-converted at last stage of FTIs in the RF BPF. The measured results of the RFE show 36.4 dB gain and 6.3 dB NF at maximum gain mode. The pass-band IIP3 and out-band IIP3@20 MHz offset are -10 dBm and +12.6 dBm at maximum gain mode, and +14 dBm and +20.5 dBm at minimum gain mode, respectively. With a 1.2 V power supply, the current consumption of the overall RFE is 40 mA at 500 MHz carrier frequency.

  • In this paper, a new topology of a active capacitor is proposed in order to apply the resonator in the design of RF active bandpass filters. Through the noise analysis of the active capacitor, the optimized low noise design process is also presented, Due to the low noise performance of the proposed active bandpass filter, it can be used in the RF front-end of the receivers. In designed 2-stage active bandpass filter at 1.9 GHz shows insertion loss of 0 dB, noise figure of 2.6 dB, and OIP3 of 8 dBm.

  • This study proposes ZnO thin film as a piezoelectric material for SAW (surface acoustic wave) filter. The ZnO thin film with thickness $2.6{\mu}m$ was deposited (0001)-oriented sapphire by RF magnetron sputtering technique. IDTs (inter-digital transducers) electrodes were patterned upon SAW filter mask with solid finger structure unapodized using lift-off method on ZnO piezoelectric thin film. SAW propagation velocity was measured with the center frequency by HP 8753C network analyzer. A fabricated ZnO SAW filter exhibited a high propagation velocity of 5433 $^m/s$ and relatively insertion loss of -53.391dB at $\lambda=80{\mu}m$. The side-lobe attenuation of the center frequency was about 17dB. When the wavelength was $80{\mu}m$ $(\lambda/4=20{\mu}m)$, the center frequency was 67.907 MHz. $k^2$ (electromechanical coupling coefficient) was 15.84 %.

  • Recently, CMOS RF integration has been widely explored in the wireless communication area to save cost, power, and chip area. The direct conversion architecture, rather than a more conventional super-het-erodyne, has been an attractive choice for single-chip integration because of its many advantages. However, the direct conversion architecture has several fundamental problems to solve in achieving performance comparable to a super-heterodyne counterpart. In this paper, we describe a programmable filter for mobile communication terminals using a direct conversion architecture. The proposed filter can be implemented with the active-RC filter and programmed to meet the requirements of different communication standards, including GSM, DECT and WCDMA. The filter can be tuned to select a detail frequency by changing the gate voltage of the MOS resistors. The gain of the proposed architecture can be programmed from 27dB to 72dB using the filter gain and VGA in 3dB steps.

  • We present the design of a compact microstrip lowpass filter with a wide stopband which is up to ten times the cutoff frequency. The filter is based on a coupled-line configuration and shunt open stubs. The open stubs create additional transmission zeros, which are used to extend the stopband of the filter without any additional components or cascaded units. A prototype lowpass filter with a 3 dB cutoff frequency of 0.428 GHz and a 15 dB stopband extended up to 4.77 GHz is fabricated to validate the theoretical predictions.

  • Piezoelectric ZnO thin films were deposited on 7059 glass substrate by rf magnetron sputtering. The effects of deposition parameter, such as rf power, gas pressure and $O_{2}$/Ar gas ratio, on the crystallinity and electrical properties of the deposited ZnO thin films were studied. It was found that the deposition rate was higher than the previously reported values. ZnO films were suitable for SAW filter since a standard deviation of XRD (002) peak rocking curve was less than $6^{\circ}$. ZnO thin films, which were deposited at $O_{2}$/Ar ratio larger than 25%, showed high resistance. SAW filter was fabricated using ZnO film, of which thickness was 0.25 of the wavelength of the propatating surface acoustic wave. The measured frequency response was consistent with the calculated one. The SAW filter had center frequency 39.08 MHz, phase velocity 2501 m/sec and insertion loss 29 dB.

  • In this paper, a broadband RF module is designed and tested for 2.4GHz band applications. The RF module is composed of a low noise amplifier (LNA) with a three stage amplifier, a single ended gate mixer, matching circuits, a hairpin line band pass filter and a Chebyshev low pass filter to convert the radio frequency (RF) into the intermediate frequency (IF). The LNA has a high gain and stability, and the single ended gate mixer has a high conversion gain and wide dynamic range. In the analysis of the broadband RF module, the composite harmonic balance technique is used to analyze the operating characteristics of an RF module circuit. The RF module has a 55.2dB conversion gain with a 1.54dB low noise figure, $-120{\sim}-60dBm$ wide RF power dynamic range, -60dBm low harmonic spectrum and a good isolation factor among the RF, IF, and local oscillator (LO) ports.
