  • This study was conducted to investigate the variation in sequence, the base composition and the sequence similarity of 18S rDNA (18S ribosomal RNA coding region) in the 10 Polygonatum spp. collections. The entire 18S rDNA region of 10 Polygonatum spp. collections ranged from 913 bp to 914 bp. There were 8 variable sites in the entire 18S region, and they were attributable to nucleotide substitution and deletion. $T{\rightarrow}C$ transition happened in 4 sites, and $A{\rightarrow}G$ transition happened in 1 site. $C{\rightarrow}A$ transversion happened in 1 site, and deletion happened in 2 sites. Transition rates were five times that of transversion. Base compositions of 18S rDNA were $23.09{\sim}23.33%$ in adenine, $23.33{\sim}23.52%$ in guanine, $25.60{\sim}25.85%$ in thymine and $27.38{\sim}27.79%$ in cytosine. The A + T content of 18S rDNA of 10 Polygonatum spp. collections averages 48.99%, ranging from 48.80% to 49.18%, and the G + C content averages 51.01%, ranging from 50.82% to 51.20%. Pairwise sequence comparisons indicated that 18S rDNA sequence similarity ranged from 99.7% to 100%.

  • This study was conducted to examine the mediating effects of social anxiety and academic self-efficacy in the relationship between adolescent covert narcissism and school life adaptation. The subjects were 423 middle school and high school students. The results of this study are as follows: First, covert narcissistic personality tendency had a negative correlation with school life adaptation(r=-.51, p<.01). Covert narcissism had significant positive correlation with social anxiety(r=.70, p<.01) but had negative correlation with academic self-efficacy(r=-.39, p<.01). Social anxiety showed a significant negative correlation with school life adaptation(r=-.50, p<.01), academic self-efficacy had a positive correlation with school life adaptation(r=.63, p<.01), and social anxiety had a negative correlation with academic self-efficacy(r=-.51, p<.01). Second, as a result of verifying the mediating effects of social anxiety and academic self-efficacy, academic self-efficacy has mediating effects on the relationship between covert narcissism and school life adaptation(${\beta}=.41$, p<.001), and social anxiety has no mediating effect on school life adaptation(${\beta}=-.05$, p<.001). The results of this study suggest that If adolescents with covert narcissism have difficulties in adapting to school life, increasing academic self-efficacy, especially self-control efficacy and self-confidence, may be helpful to improve adolescents' adaptation to school life.

  • Antimutagenicity of milk cultured with lactic acid bacteria isolated from dadih on the mutagenicity of heated salty and sweet tauco was examined using streptomycin dependent (SD) 510 strain of Salmonella typhimurium TA 98 as a tester culture. Cultured milk samples exhibited widely antimutagenic activity against mutagenic heated salty and sweet tauco. Lc. lactis subsp. lactis R-22, Lc. lactis subsp. casei R-35, Lc. lactis subsp. casei R-52 and E. faecalis subsp. liquefaciens R-55 exhibited no inhibitory effect on the mutagenic heated salty tauco. Mutagenicity of heated sweet tauco was inhibited by cultured milks stronger than that of heated salty tauco. Milk cultured with Lc. lactis subsp. cremoris R-48, Leuc. mesentroides R-51 and Lc. lactis subsp. casei R-68 showed high inhibition against the mutagenicity of both heated salty and sweet taucos. Antimutagenic activity of the cultured milks against mutagenic heated tauco was attributed to the bacterial cells. Among the three strains which showed high antimutagenicity, only Leuc. mesentroides R-51 was tolerant to both acid and bile; so this strain can be used as probiotic in preventing the occurrence of mutagenesis caused by mutagenic heated food like tauco.

  • Chemoresistance is a major barrier to successful cisplatin-based chemotherapy for epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), and emerging evidences suggest that microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in the resistance. In this study, it was indicated that miR-363 downregulation was significantly correlated with EOC carcinogenesis and cisplatin resistance. Moreover, miR-363 overexpression could resensitise cisplatin-resistant EOC cells to cisplatin treatment both in vitro and in vivo. In addition, data revealed that EMT inducer Snail was significantly upregulated in cisplatin-resistant EOC cell lines and EOC patients and was a functional target of miR-363 in EOC cells. Furthermore, snail overexpression could significantly attenuate miR-363-suppressed cisplatin resistance of EOC cells, suggesting that miR-363-regulated cisplatin resistance is mediated by snail-induced EMT in EOC cells. Taken together, findings suggest that miR-363 may be a biomarker for predicting responsiveness to cisplatin-based chemotherapy and a potential therapeutic target in EOC.

  • In the current paper we study absolutely pure representations of quivers. Then over some nice quivers including linear quivers some sufficient conditions guaranteeing a representation to be absolutely pure is characterized. Furthermore some relations between atness and absolute purity is investigated. Finally it is shown that the absolutely pure covering of representations of linear quivers (including $A^-_{\infty}$, $A^+_{\infty}$ and $A^{\infty}_{\infty}$) by R-modules whenever R is a coherent ring exists.
