  • The educational method of physical computing, where students can experience software programming principles and practices while making concrete objects beyond outputs residing just inside of computer monitors, are drawing attentions. This current research sought an instructional method for pre-service teachers that they can experience 3D printing and modeling and at the same time they can understand programming principles in the 3D modeling processes. To achieve this aim, the TinkerCAD $Codeblocks^{(R)}$ was analyzed based on the computational thinking framework and a course utilizing the $Codeblocks^{(R)}$ to 3D modeling was devised. The designed class was applied to pre-service teachers and the students' perceptions of the class were collected by using a semi-structured survey. This study provides implications to software education for pre-service teachers as an instructional case that 3D printing is used to connecting computational thinking skills.

  • The purpose of this study is to present rational methods of multi-criteria optimization of the envelope of buildings. The object is to determine the optimum R-value of the envelope of a building, based on the following criteria: minimum building costs (including the cost of materials and construction) and yearly heating costs. Mathematical model described heat losses and gains in a building during the heating season. It takes into consideration heat losses through wall, roof, floor and windows. Particular attention was paid to have a more detailed description of heat gains due to solar radiation. On the assumption that shape of building is rectangle in order to solve the problem, optimum R-value of the envelope of a building is determined by using non-linear programing methods(Kuhn-Tucker Conditions). The results constitute information for designers on the optimum R-value of a building envelope for energy saving buildings.

Interest has steadily grown to fill this missing routes in overall urban transportation system. Light Rail Transit (L.R.T) system has been recently thought to be an appropriate mode of transportation by businessmen, professionals and transportation industry. In this regards, the purpose of this study is to explore whether L.R.T can be a feasible form of urban rail mode in the context of Seoul. First, the study develops the mathematical models to derive optimum route networks and stations. Integer Programming is employed to determine whether alternative routes are financially viable from the viewpoint of revenue maximization principles. Second, mathematical models developed are applied to Yoido area in order to examine the validity of model structures. The models constructed turns out be capable of handling alternative routes and stations. Application of models are successfully carried out to derive financially feasible set of routes and stations.

  • A cost minimization model for designing AS/RS (Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems) has been developed, whose objective function includes penalty cost caused by the incapability of meeting throughput rate requirements as well as S/R machine cost, storage rack cost, and interface conveyor cost. Since the model is a nonlinear integer programming problem which is very hard to solve with large problem size the problem is divided into four cases according to the ratio of horizontal S/R machine speed to its vertical speed and the existence of the penalty cost. A solution procedure is developed which solves each problem exactly under the different number of S/R machines.

  • The epicentral region of earthquakes is typically where liquefaction-related damage takes place. To determine the maximum distance, such as maximum epicentral distance (Re), maximum fault distance (Rf), or maximum hypocentral distance (Rh), at which an earthquake can inflict damage, given its magnitude, this study, using a recently updated global liquefaction database, multiple ML models are built to predict the limiting distances (Re, Rf, or Rh) required for an earthquake of a given magnitude to cause damage. Four machine learning models LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory), BiLSTM (Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory), CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), and XGB (Extreme Gradient Boosting) are developed using the Python programming language. All four proposed ML models performed better than empirical models for limiting distance assessment. Among these models, the XGB model outperformed all the models. In order to determine how well the suggested models can predict limiting distances, a number of statistical parameters have been studied. To compare the accuracy of the proposed models, rank analysis, error matrix, and Taylor diagram have been developed. The ML models proposed in this paper are more robust than other current models and may be used to assess the minimal energy of a liquefaction disaster caused by an earthquake or to estimate the maximum distance of a liquefied site provided an earthquake in rapid disaster mapping.

  • This Paper makes an attempt to suggest a process of automatically generating application software based on the Entity-Relationship model 1. The designer develops an E-R model of an real-world system. 2. The designer inputs the entity and relationship types, and attributes shown in the E-R model, and also the basic operations of the application system to the software generator. 3. The application generator produces database schema and link information between application programs, and then automatically generates a stereo-type application system. In order for the automated application generator to build the application system in a systematic way, four basic program generation rules have been suggested. A set of computer programs have been developed in order to show the applicability of the automated software generation process suggested in this paper. By following each rule with the generator, the designer can build an application in an efficient manner compared with traditional (manual programming) approaches. It has been demonstrated from the case study that the idea of applying an automated generator in systems development based upon the E-R model is feasible.

  • This study is aimed at verifying the effect of scratch programming education for middle school students on their information science creative personality and technological problem solving tendency. The results of such study can be used as basic data for raising 'future creative talents' armed with problem-solving capability they honed in software education. The results of this research are as follows. First, a statistically significant difference was confirmed between ex ante and ex post samples in a t-test which was performed to verify information science creative personality of the middle school students (t(37)=4.305, p<.01). Their information science creative personality was high in the average score as it dropped from 3.00 in the ex-ante test to 2.51 in the ex post test. It was confirmed that the education of scratch programming influences information science creative personality for middle school students positively, suggesting that middle school students are interested in new problematic situations they found in information science and discover new problem-solving methods in the programming education, thereby showing positive feedback in the education performance. However, it was revealed that the middle school students were unable to immerse themselves in the scratch programming course completely and change their psychological states. Second, a statistically significant difference was confirmed between ex ante and ex post samples in a t-test which was performed to verify their technological problem solving tendency (t(37)=3.074, p<.01). Their technological problem solving tendency was high in the average score as it dropped from 4.06 in the ex-ante test to 3.55 in the ex post test. It was confirmed that the education of scratch programming influences technological problem solving tendency for middle school students positively: they understood problems associated with technology, explored diverse breakthroughs for the identified problems and assessed and improved resolutions. Third, a moderate correlation was confirmed between their information science creative personality and technological problem solving tendency (r=.343, p<.05). Therefore, it is judged that the middle school students who took scratch programming education demonstrated its influence in the correlation between the imagination for problem solving, positivity in the information science creative personality and the confidence for problem solving in the technological problem solving tendency.

  • This tutorial presents an approach to perform the covariance based structural equation modeling using the R. For this purpose, the tutorial defines the criteria for the covariance based structural equation modeling by reviewing previous studies, and shows how to analyze the research model with an example using the "lavaan" which is the R package supporting the covariance based structural equation modeling. In this tutorial, a covariance-based structural equation modeling technique using the R and the R scripts targeting the example model were proposed as the results. This tutorial will be useful to start the study of the covariance based structural equation modeling for the researchers who first encounter the covariance based structural equation modeling and will provide the knowledge base for in-depth analysis through the covariance based structural equation modeling technique using R which is the integrated statistical software operating environment for the researchers familiar with the covariance based structural equation modeling.
