Purpose: The goal of this study was to see how flipped learning affected nursing students in South Korea who were enrolled in a quit smoking intervention education program. The flipped learning-based quit smoking intervention education program was developed to help nursing students implement the intervention. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted using a pretest-posttest design. A total of 52 nursing students, divided into experimental and control groups of 26 each, participated between November and December 2021. The experimental group was instructed in the flipped learning-based quit smoking intervention education program over six sessions. In accordance with flipped learning, each session was composed of pre-class, in-class, and post-class sections. Results: Compared to the control group, the experimental group showed improved beliefs about the health benefits of quitting smoking, as well as positive attitudes and self-efficacy from the quit smoking intervention. The experimental group experienced the greatest increase in student-centered activities and student participation through flipped learning. Conclusion: These results indicate that the flipped learning method was effective in quit smoking intervention education for nursing students. Therefore, it is worthwhile to consider that a quit smoking intervention education program based on flipped learning be included in the regular nursing curriculum.

Methods: Data collection proceeded from April to August 2008. The subjects were the whole number, 38 students, of 1EA technical high school located. The subjects who attended the smoking cessation program were the first and second grade students of the high school whom classroom teachers recommended. As to the subject, I comparatively analyzed differences between the before and after instruction, between after instruction and after consecutive consulting, and between before instruction and after consecutive consulting. The five-day-smoking cessation program took 2 successive hours a day for five days. Results: Average age for them to start smoking was 13.6 and to form smoking habits was 15.5. Average smoking period was 31.6 months and average smoking quantity was 11.2 cigarettes. As a result of the five-days smoking cessation program, 10.5% of the participants quit smoking and smoking quantity also significantly reduced. After instruction, willingness to quit smoking was generally higher than before. Smoking attitude, especially toward adolescent smoking, changed to be more negative than before. Perception of smoking also changed to be positive. Conclusions: The results from the comparative analysis of before and after instruction revealed a decrease on smoking quantity of the participants who attended the smoking cessation program. It also showed a significant change on smoking attitude, willingness to quit smoking and smoking perception.
Purpose: This study examined the socio-demographic and health factors affecting the quit-smoking plan in smoking seniors. Methods: Data were obtained from the Seventh Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (VII-1, VII-2, VII-3). The sample consisted of 369 smoking seniors. The complex sample was analyzed thought an independent t-test, Chi-square test, and multiple logistic regression. Results: The influential factors on the quit-smoking plan were daily smoking (OR=0.30, CI=0.11-0.78), age of start smoking (OR=1.06, CI=1.01-1.11), daily smoking amount (OR=0.95, CI=0.90-1.00), quit-smoking trial (OR=2.63, CI=1.32-5.23), and cognitive stress (OR=2.13, CI=1.01-4.54). Conclusion: This study revealed the variables that should be considered when setting up a smoking cessation plan for smoking seniors. Based on this, an elderly cessation intervention program can be developed.
Objectives: This pilot study was designed to examine whether the adolescent smoking cessation program with harmonica therapy was effective or not. It was qualitatively explored perceived smoking consequences, cessation and relapse experience, specific harmonica help to overcome smoking urge, preference of harmonica toward cessation, and harmonica intervention planning to quit. Methods: The treatment program was conducted 30-minute, 6-session, and once a week basis. Qualitative data using Focus Group Interview were collected at the completion of the program with 6 participants, and analyzed by Krueger's systematic process. Results: Participants were smoking daily and consumed 3-10 cigarettes. They recognized undesirable smoking consequences in terms of cost, interpersonal relationship, and health that might lead to cessation attempts in the past. Participants who did not want to quit smoking at the program beginning changed their attitude to quit after exploring partial cessation efforts with the help of harmonica therapy. They believe harmonica's consistent help of quitting and leading to success. Conclusion: Adolescent attitudinal change toward smoking cessation has promising insight of motivation enhancement through harmonica therapy that was a major barrier to successful quit.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing nicotine dependency among college students intending to quit smoking, and to provide data for the construction of programs that will be successful in helping the students quit smoking. Method: In this study a cross-sectional survey to analyze was used. The data were collected between April 22 and April 24, 2013 from 218 college students who had unsuccessfully tried to quit smoking in the past but were now intending to try and quit smoking again. Data were analyzed using frequency, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and multiple regression with the SPSS 21.0. Results: Factors influencing nicotine dependency were self-efficacy for smoking abstinence (t=-6.60, p=<.001), length of time since beginning to smoke (t=5.39, p<.001), level of carbon monoxide intake (t=2.38, p=.018), and withdrawal symptoms as reasons why the students failed to quit smoking (t=2.22, p=.028). These 4 variables accounted for 35.0% of the variance with regard to nicotine dependency. Conclusions: To conduct a successful program for students who intend to quit smoking, self-efficacy for smoking abstinence, length of time since beginning to smoke, level of carbon monoxide, and withdrawal symptoms as reasons for failing to quit smoking should be considered.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors contributing to intentions of quitting smoking, and use of smoking cessation services for daily smokers, and willingness of using smoking cessation services by the public health centers. Method: A total of 1,403 cases of male smokers were collected by a telephone survey. The age of smokers in the study ranged from 20 to 59. Socio-demographic variables, cigarette consumption behaviors, quit attempts and intentions of quitting smoking, and use of clinical services provided by the local public health centers were analysed using SPSS program. Result: About 77.8% of the smokers consumed a pack of cigarettes or less per day. About 20% of the smokers have used quit aides such as nicotine patch, gum, quit cigarettes, and acupuncture. These variables were associated with prior quit attempts in the past 1 year. Older age, degree of addiction(less time spent without smoking after a smoker gets up in the morning), prior quit attempts, panning to quit in one month, doctor's advice to quit were the major predictors of using the smoking cessation services provided by the public health centers. Conclusion: Health educators have to entice physicians to give smoking cessation advice to smokers, and have to provide many different types of educational programs to help quitting smoking.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of a quit smoking program using the Web and short message service on exhaled carbon monoxide, self-efficacy, and depression according to nicotine dependency level in undergraduate students. Methods: In this study a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was applied. The participants included 90 students (52 in the low nicotine dependency group and 38 in the high nicotine dependency group) who succeeded in quitting smoking. Data were collected on 3 occasions, that is, before the program, immediately after the program, and 3 weeks after the program. Collected data were analyzed using independent t-test, repeated measure ANOVA, and paired t-test with SPSS 20.0. Results: Exhaled carbon monoxide was higher in the high nicotine dependency group than in the low nicotine dependency group. Self-efficacy significantly increased 3 weeks after the program in the low nicotine dependency group and significantly increased immediately after the program in the high nicotine dependency group. Depression significantly decreased 3 weeks after the program in the low nicotine dependency group. Conclusion: Self-efficacy may be enhanced when it is dealt with during an early phase of the quit smoking program for the high nicotine dependency group. Long-term intervention and persistent intervention are needed with regard to depression during a quit smoking program.
