  • Park et al.(2005) and Choi et al.(2006) studied quick detection of variance change point for time series data in progress. For efficient detection they used moving variance ratio equipped with two tuning parameters; information tuning parameter p and lag tuning parameter q. In this paper, the moving variance ratio is studied under harsh conditions.

  • The characteristics of neighborhood correlation images for change detection were explored at different spatial resolution scales. Bi-temporal QuickBird datasets of Las Vegas, NV were used for the high spatial resolution image analysis, while bi-temporal Landsat $TM/ETM^{+}$ datasets of Suwon, South Korea were used for the mid spatial resolution analysis. The neighborhood correlation images consisting of three variables (correlation, slope, and intercept) were evaluated and compared between the two scales for change detection. The neighborhood correlation images created using the Landsat datasets resulted in somewhat different patterns from those using the QuickBird high spatial resolution imagery due to several reasons such as the impact of mixed pixels. Then, automated binary change detection was also performed using the single and multiple neighborhood correlation image variables for both spatial resolution image scales.

  • Purpose : Recently, a number of rapid antigen detection tests have been available to diagnose group A streptococcal pharyngotonsillitis. The purpose of this study was to determine the sensitivity, specificity and consistency of the two rapid antigen detection tests. Methods : Among the patients who visited our clinic from November 2001 to February 2002, 61 patients who had clinical findings of pharyngeal erythema or edema, pharyngeal exudates and soft palatine petechiae were enrolled in our study. A total of 61 patients were tested with rapid antigen detection tests and throat culture. BD $LINK2^{TM}$ Strep A(Becton, Dickinson & Company, U.S.A.) and $QuickVue^{(R)}$ $In-Line^{TM}$(Quidel Corporation, U.S.A.) were selected for rapid antigen detection tests. Results : Of the 61 patients tested, 22 patients were confirmed as group A streptococcal pharyngotonsillitis by throat culture. The BD $LINK2^{TM}$ Strep A had a sensitivity of 81.8% and a specificity 89.7%. The positive and negative predictive values were 81.8% and 89.7%, respectively. The $QuickVue^{(R)}$ $In-Line^{TM}$ had a sensitivity of 77.3% and a specificity of 100%. The positive and negative predictive values were 100% and 88.6%, respectively. The kappa values of BD $LINK2^{TM}$ Strep A and $QuickVue^{(R)}$ $In-Line^{TM}$ were 0.72 and 0.81, respectively. Conclusion : In addition to high sensitivity, specificity and consistency, both kits are easy to use and simple to interpret, and therefore have the potential to be used with backup throat culture for diagnosis of acute pharyngotonsillitis.

  • Quickly picking up some valuable information from massive manufacturing event stream usually faces with the problem of long detection time, high memory consumption and low detection efficiency due to its stream characteristics of large volume, high velocity, many variety and small value. Aiming to solve the problem above for the current complex event processing methods because of not sharing detection during the detecting process for massive manufacturing event streams, an efficient complex event processing method based on multipattern sharing is presented in this paper. The achievement of this paper lies that a multipattern sharing technology is successfully used to realize the quick detection of complex event for massive manufacturing event streams. Specially, in our scheme, we firstly use pattern sharing technology to merge all the same prefix, suffix, or subpattern that existed in single pattern complex event detection models into a multiple pattern complex event detection model, then we use the new detection model to realize the quick detection for complex events from massive manufacturing event streams, as a result, our scheme can effectively solve the problems above by reducing lots of redundant building, storing, searching and calculating operations with pattern sharing technology. At the end of this paper, we use some simulation experiments to prove that our proposed multiple pattern processing scheme outperforms some general processing methods in current as a whole.

  • Frequent outbreaks of foodborne illness have been increasing the awareness of agro-food safety. Conventional methods for pathogen detection and identification are labor.intensive and take days to complete. The increasing use of rapid food safety testing is receiving more and more attention. The major reason for this trend is that the food industry requires quick and accurate results. The rapid detection of contaminants in food is critical for ensuring the safety of consumers. Recent advances in technology make detection and identification faster, more sensitive and more specific than traditional method. In this paper, technology trends and recent developments in rapid methods for agro-food safety are discussed.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the power spectra and evaluate the performance of DTMF receiver by using the quick Fourier transform(QFT) algorithm. The economical signals detection of dual-tone multifrequency(DTMF) receiver is an important factor when developing cost-effective telecommunication equipment. In experimental results, it shows that reducing memory waste and can process the real-time.

  • Purpose : Although influenza is one of the most important cause of acute respiratory tract infections in children, virus isolation is not popular and there are only a few clinical studies on influenza and diagnostic methods. We evaluated the epidemiological and clinical features of influenza in children and rapid antigen detection test(QuickVue influenza test) on fist half of the year 2004 in Busan. Methods : From January 2004 to June 2004, throat swab and nasal secretion were obtained and cultured for the isolation of influenza virus and tested by rapid antigen detection test(QuickVue influenza test) in children with suspected influenza infections. The medical records of patients with influenza virus infection were reviewed retrospectively. Results : Influenza viruses were isolated in 79(17.2%) out of 621 patients examined. Influenza virus was isolated mainly from March to April 2004. The ratio of male and female with influenza virus infection was 1.2 : 1 with median age of 4 years 6month. The most common clinical diagnosis of influenza virus infection was bronchitis. There was no difference between influenza A and B infection in clinical diagnosis and symptoms. All patients recovered without severe complication. The sensitivity obtained for rapid antigen detection test (QuickVue influenza test) was 93.6% and the specificity was 80.2%, the positive predictive value 40.8%, the negative predictive value 98.8%. Conclusion : With rapid antigen detection test, it is possible early detection of influenza in children. reduction in use of antimicrobial agent and early use of antiviral agent.

  • Many researchers conducted the effort for improving the classification accuracy of satellite image. Most of the study has used optical spectrum information of each pixel for image classification. By applying this method for high resolution satellite image, number of class becomes increase. This situation is remarkable for house, because the roof of house has variety of many colors. Even if the classification is carried out for many classes, roof color information of each house is not necessary. Most of the case, we need the information that object is house or not. In this study, we propose the method for detecting the object by using Genetic Algorithms (GA). Aircraft was selected as object. It is easy for this object to detect in the airport. An aircraft was taken as a template. Object image was taken from QuickBird. Target image includes an aircraft and Haneda Airport. Chromosome has four or five parameters which are composed of number of template, position (x,y), rotation angle, rate of enlarge. Good results were obtained in the experiment.

  • This paper studies quick detection of variance change point for iid data. For development of sensitive and adaptive variance change point detector, moving variance ratio is employed as a variance ratio estimator. It is shown that selection of tuning parameters of detector, (i.e., information and lag tuning parameters) is critical for detector to achieve desirable sensitivity and adaptiveness. Interestingly our simulation result reveals limitations of the commonly used change ratio against the previous day. Our results will provide useful insight when the detector is applied to time series data.

  • In this article quick variance change point (VCP) detection problem for time series is considered. For this variance VCP detector equipped with tuning parameters is proposed. A major tool for the detector is moving variance ratio (MVR) which monitors variance change of a given time series. Tuning process of detector is investigated via simulation, which shows that tuning parameters are critical in achieving sensitivity and adaptiveness of detector.
