  • This paper provides an M/G/1 queueing model for the operations management problem at the toll plaza. This queueing process is incorporated with two non-linear integer programming models - the user cost minimization model during the peak times and the operating cost minimization model during the off-peak hours.

  • The traffic patterns of today's IP networks exhibit two important properties: self-similarity and long-range dependence. The fractional Brownian motion is widely used for representing the traffic model with the properties. We consider a single server fluid queueing system with input process of a fractional Brownian motion type. Formulas for effective bandwidth are derived in a single source and multiple source cases.

  • Input queueing is useful for high bandwidth switches and routers because of lower complexity and fewer circuits than output queueing. The input queueing switch, however, suffers HOL-Blocking, which limits the throughput to 58%. To get around this low throughput, we propose a simple scheduling algorithm called Synchronous Input Port (SIP). This method synchronize packets and switching without blocking, which is shown to have better performance over the established algorithms

  • In this paper, we analyze a queueing system with overload control by arrival rates. This paper is motivated by overload control to prevent congestion in telecommunication networks. The arrivals occur dependent upon queue length. In other words, if the queue length increases, the arrivals may be reduced. By considering the burstiness of traffics in telecommunication networks, we assume the arrival to be a Markov-modulated Poisson process. The analysis by the embedded Markov chain method gives to us the performance measures such as loss and delay. The effect of performance measures on system parameters also is given throughout the numerical examples.

  • Queueing models are good models for fragments of communication systems and networks, so their investigation is interesting for theory and applications. Theses queues may play an important role for the validation of different decomposition algorithms designed for investigating more general queueing networks. So, in this paper we illustrate that the batch size distribution affects the loss probability, which is the main performance measure of a finite buffer queues.

  • In this paper, the queueing system in series is studied. The system is a tandem queueing system which has three stations. In system, one service station has a general distributions and two service stations have exponential distribution. Each station has a single server. The customer arrives with Poisson process and is serviced sequentially. It is assumed that the order of stations does not affect the quality of services. Using the light traffic approximations, the optimal order of the system which has the three stations is decided.

  • The hierarchical cell structure consists of the macrocell and microcells to increase the system capacity and to achieve broad coverage. The hierarchical cell structure provides services for users in different mobility. In this paper, an analytical queueing model in mobile networks is proposed for the performance evaluation of the hierarchical cell structure. The model for networks with the multiple levels can simplify multi-dimensional ones into one-dimensional queueing model. The computational advantage will be growing as the layers are constructed in multiple levels. The computer simulation is provided for validating the proposed analytical model.

  • The BMAP/M/N/0 queueing system operating in Markovian random environment is investigated. The stationary distribution of the system is derived. Loss probability and other performance measures of the system also are calculated. Numerical experiments which show the necessity of taking into account the influence of random environment and correlation in input flow are presented.

  • We analyze queueing model with priority scheduling by supplementary variable method. Customers are classified into two types (type-1 and type-2 ) according to their characteristics. Customers of each type arrive by independent Poisson processes, and all customers regardless of type have same general service time. The service order of each type is determined by the queue length of type-1 buffer. If the queue length of type-1 customer exceeds a threshold L, the service priority is given to the type-1 customer. Otherwise, the service priority is given to type-2 customer. Method of supplementary variable by remaining service time gives us information for queue length of two buffers. That is, we derive the differential difference equations for our queueing system. We obtain joint probability generating function for two queue lengths and the remaining service time. Also, the mean queue length of each buffer is derived.

  • In this study, a non-preemptive M/G/1 queueing model of a spectrum handoff scheme for cognitive wireless networks is proposed. Because spectrum handoff gives secondary users an opportunity to carry on their transmissions, it is crucially important to determine the actions of primary users. In our queueing model, prioritized data traffic is utilized to meet the requirements of the secondary users. These users' packets are categorized into three different priority classes: urgent, real-time, and non-real time. Urgent data packets have the highest priority, while non-real time data packets have the lowest priority. Riverbed (OPNET) Modeler simulation software was used to simulate both reactive and proactive decision spectrum handoff schemes. The simulation results were consistent with the analytical results obtained under different load and traffic conditions. This study also revealed that the cumulative number of handoffs can be drastically decreased by exploiting priority classes and utilizing a decent spectrum handoff strategy, such as a reactive or proactive decision-based strategy.
