  • Surface site and areas of particles are geometrically calculated for the cubic structures to investigate how the surface sites vary with the variation of morphology and particle size. The numbers of surface site and area become smaller when the particles become equi-dimensional shape. The ratios of surface site to surface area are almost constant except the case of anion of fluorite structure. The ratios of the number of surface site to area are almost constant regardless of particle size except the size of up to 5 to 10 times of the unit cell dimension. This quantification method can be used to obtain data related to the surface reaction.

  • The current drive in a MOSFET is limited by the intrinsic channel resistance. All other parasitic elements in a device structure perform significant functions leading to degradation in the device performance. These other resistances must be less than 10$\%$-20$\%$ of the channel resistance. To meet the necessary requirements, the methodology of separation and quantification of those resistances should be investigated. In this paper, we developed an extraction method for the resistances using calibrated TCAD simulation. The resistance of the extension region is also partially determined by the formation of a surface accumulation region that gathers below the gate in the tail region of the extension profile. This resistance is strongly affected by the abruptness of the extension profile because the steeper the profile is, the shorter this accumulation region will be.

  • This paper proposes a method for quantifying the types of quality elements proposed by Kano; namely: attractive quality, one-dimensional quality, and must-be quality. Kano's classification of required quality has helped us improve our thinking in product development. However, his classification is conceptual rather than quantitative, and the conventional techniques of questionnaire and group interview cannot provide quantification of the relationship between the degree of customer satisfaction and the degree of sufficiency of required qualities. This paper describes how a quality element under Kano's quality model can be expressed as a utility function, and describes an application to quality design of a cellular phone.

  • This study presents the evaluation of sample extraction and purification procedure for the determination of residues of febantel and its metabolites, fenbendazole, oxfendazole and oxfendazole sulfone in rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli) muscle using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Residues of febantel and its metabolites in rockfish muscle were analyzed using each different sample preparation method from Korean Food Standards Codex (KFSC), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS, USA), and the modified FSIS method using QuEChERS kit (FSIS-Q), respectively. Each method was compared for mean recoveries and repeatabilities. Since FSIS-Q showed higher repeatabilities (coefficient of variation, CV of 2.4%~10.9%) than those of FSIS method (CV of 4.6%~17.5%), recoveries from FSIS-Q were compared with those from KFSC method. FSIS-Q showed significantly higher recoveries of 83.1%~110.1% (P < 0.05) than those from KFSC method of 64.7%~107.4%. In addition, FSIS-Q showed a good linearity over the range of 2.5~200 ㎍/kg, and excellent sensitivities with limit of detection of 0.46~0.71 ㎍/kg and limit of quantification of 1.08~2.15 ㎍/kg. Although all the sample preparation methods turned out to be able to meet CODEX guideline for all the compounds, FSIS method and FSIS-Q validated in this study could be applied to screening and quantification for residues of febantel and its metabolites in rockfish muscle with efficient preparation procedures.

  • Quantification of error possibility, in an HRA process, should be performed so that the result of the qualitative analysis can be utilized in other areas in conjunction with overall safety estimation results. And also, the quantification is an essential process to analyze the error possibility in detail and to obtain countermeasures for the errors through screening procedures. In previous studies for the quantification of error possibility, nominal values were assigned by the experts' judgements and utilized as corresponding probabilities. The values assigned by experts' experiences and judgements, however, require verifications on their reliability. In this study, the validity of new error possibility values in new MCR design was verified by using the Onisawa's model which utilizes fuzzy linguistic values to estimate human error probabilities. With the model of error probabilities are represented as analyst's estimations and natural language expression instead of numerical values. As results, the experts' estimation values about error probabilities are well agreed to the existing error probability estimation model. Thus, it was concluded that the occurrence probabilities of errors derived from the human error analysis process can be assessed by nominal values suggested in the previous studies. It is also expected that our analysis method can supplement the conventional HRA method because the nominal values are based on the consideration of various influencing factors such as PSFs.

  • In modern society, IT technology based systems are introduced and operated in various fields such as home, industry, and finance. To ensure the safety of society, IT systems introduced throughout society should be protected from cyber attacks. Understanding and checking the current security status of the system is one of the important tasks to response effectively against cyber attacks. In this paper, we analyze limitations of Game Theory and Attack Tree methodologies used to inspect for security vulnerabilities. Based on this, we propose a security vulnerability quantification method that complements the limitations of both methodologies. This provides a more objective and systematic way to inspect for security weaknesses.

  • The relative composition of $Cu(InGa)Se_2$ solar cells is one of the most important measurement issues. However, quantitative analysis of multi-component alloy films is difficult by surface analysis methods due to severe matrix effect. In this study, quantitative depth profiling analysis of CIGS films was investigated by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). The compositions were measured by SIMS using the alloy reference relative sensitivity factors derived from the certified compositions and the total counting numbers of each element. The compositions measured by SIMS were linearly proportional to those by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) using isotope dilution method. In this study, the quantification measured by ICP-MS method is compared with the composition calculated by SIMS depth profiles with AR-RSFs obtained from the reference. The SIMS depth profile of CIGS thin films according to the manufacturing condition was converted into compositional depth profile.

  • Cross reacting antibodies can cause an overestimation of the results of immunoassays. Therefore, alternative methods are needed for the accurate quantification of steroids. Gas chromatography combined with isotope-dilution mass spectrometry (GC-IDMS) is developed to quantify urinary active androgens, testosterone, epitestosterone and dihydrotestosterone, which are clinically relevant androgens to both hair-loss and prostate diseases. The method devised involves enzymatic hydrolysis with $\beta$-glucuronidase, solid-phase extraction, liquid-liquid extraction using methyl tert-butyl ether and subsequent conversion to pentafluorophenyldimethylsilyl-trimethylsilyl (flophemesyl-TMS) derivatives for sensitive and selective analysis in selected-ion monitoring mode. Flophemesyl-TMS derivatization not only eliminates matrix interference but also has a good peak resolution within a 6 min-run. A selective and sensitive GC technique with flophemesyl-TMS derivatives also allows accurate quantitative analysis of three active androgens when combined with IDMS. The limit of quantification of the three analytes was <50 pg/mL, and extraction recoveries ranged from 91.9 to 102.1%. The precision and accuracy were 1.2~6.5% and 89.0~106.7%, respectively. This GC-IDMS method can be useful for evaluating the drug efficacy and monitoring the biological processes responsible for male-pattern baldness and prostate diseases.

  • Dioscin is a biologically active steroidal saponin with anticancer and hepatoprotective effects. A rapid, selective, and sensitive liquid chromatographic method with electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry was developed for the quantification of dioscin in rat plasma. Dioscin was extracted from rat plasma using ethyl acetate at acidic pH. The analytes were separated on a Halo C18 column using gradient elution of acetonitrile and 0.1% formic acid and detected by tandem mass spectrometry in selected reaction monitoring mode. The standard curve was linear ($r^2$ = 0.998) over the concentration range of 1-100 ng/mL. The lower limit of quantification was 1.0 ng/mL using 50 ${\mu}L$ of plasma sample. The coefficient of variation and relative error for intra- and inter-assay at four QC levels were 1.3 to 8.0% and -5.4 to 10.0%, respectively. This method was applied successfully to the pharmacokinetic study of dioscin after oral administration of dioscin at a dose of 29.2 mg/kg in male Sprague-Dawley rats.
