Korea's R&D investment has significantly increased in recent years and the quantitative outputs such as number of papers and patents have also increased with the investment. However, the quality of R&D outputs has not been fully addressed. In particular, quality of technical performance, such as the quality of patents, has attracted little attention. In this paper, a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method was used to construct models for efficiency analysis of R&D investment, focused on quality of technical performance. Indices were proposed to analyze the quantitative and qualitative efficiencies of R&D investment. In order to effectively analyze R&D efficiencies, the measurement units of the input and output variables were standardized. Based on cases of livestock quarantine R&D projects of Korea, the quantitative and qualitative efficiencies of national R&D projects were analyzed and factors that would influence R&D efficiencies were identified. This paper suggests that both quantitative and qualitative efficiencies should be considered when measuring R&D efficiency. Also, it is recommended to carefully consider the characteristics of R&D projects during project selection stage.

Purpose: Ethical behaviors become more salient when researchers utilize face-to-face interviews and observation with vulnerable groups or communities, which may be unable to express their emotions during the sessions. The present research aims to investigate ethical behaviors while conducting research have resonance due to the deep nature of observation and interview data collection methods. Research design, data and methodology: The present research obtained non-numeric (Textual) data based on prior literature review to investigate Ethical Conducts in Qualitative Research. Non-numeric data differs from numeric data in how the data is collected, analyzed and presented. It is important to formulate written questions and adopt them what the method claims for the researcher to understand the studied phenomenon. Results: Our findings show that while conducting qualitative research, researchers must adhere to the following ethical conducts; upholding informed consent, confidentiality and privacy, adhering to beneficence's principle, practicing honesty and integrity. Each ethical conduct is discoursed in detail to realize more information on how it impacts the researcher and research participants. Conclusions: The current authors concludes that five ethical conducts are important for realizing extensive and rich information during qualitative research and may be exploited in implementing research policies for researchers utilizing observation and interviews methods of data collection.

Using a qualitative multimethod approach, this study was to construct a substantive theory about occupational socialization of librarians. Through theoretical sampling, 42 participants were in-depthly interviewed at three studies, i. e., phenomenological, ethnographic, and grounded theory approach. These data were analyzed and finally integrated using grounded theory approach. 'Acquiring Social Recognition as Information Professionals' was emerged the core category for describing and guiding the occupational socialization process. Six patterns were discovered: 'the Beliefs', 'the Seeking-Success', 'the Work-Obiligations', 'The Stucked', 'the Self-Pride', 'The Frustrated' Also, it discussed characteristics and socialization strategies of the pattern.

This study was carried out in the purpose of proposing internet marketing strategy which can make conversion rate higher through analysis of internet shopping behavior types. This study was executed in two stages; qualitative study, quantitative study. In the qualitative study, internet shopping behavior types were investigated through the In-depth interview and direct observation, and then in the quantitative study, differences of internet shopping behavior types according to consumer characteristics, product properties and shopping-mall types were examined. For qualitative study, 30 samples by focus sampling were inquired and for quantitative study, 334 data were collected through web survey. The results of this study are as follows: First, 7 Internet shopping behavior types of apparel were found through the qualitative study: cautious purchase by price comparison, searching purchase, special low price purchase, impulse purchase, prepurchase deliberation, information accumulation, recreation-oriented. Second, in relation to consumer characteristics, consumers that have many internet purchase experiences showed goal-directed behavior more and female did more special low price purchase behavior and impulse purchase behavior than male. Third, according to product properties, high price product led more cautious purchase by price comparison & prepurchase deliberation behavior and fashionable product led more information-searching behavior. In the case of low price and fashionable products, impulse purchase behaviors were showed more. Forth, according to Internet shopping mall types, category killer shopping mall visitors showed information search behavior, recreation-oriented behavior more.

Plants which are having conditions of high temperature and pressure always are exposed to danger. In order to prevent unexpected accidents, safety management that can effectively and appropriately examine facilities is required in plant operation. RBI(Risk-Based Inspection) technology in API 581 is one of standard management technique for evaluating risk on petroleum plants. There are qualitative and quantitative assessments in RBI methodology. Quantitative evaluation step is complex and required much information, so high-risk facilities in plant are selected firstly by qualitative method. Qualitative RBI is performed by choosing the answer in prepared questionnaire. However, it is difficult to believe thoroughly results from survey including ambiguous information. In this study, the procedure of qualitative RBI analysis with considering probability distribution concept were proposed by using Monte Carlo simulation method in order to increase reliability in spite of uncertain factors. In addition, qualitative risk of cooling system for LNG plant was evaluated using proposed procedure. Although 20 items of total 39 assessment items are applied to uncertain factors, risk section of high probability(89%) were verified. The detailed results were described in manuscript.

This paper develops a traffic condition decision algorithm to improve the reliability of traffic information on urban streets. This research is reestablished the criteria of qualitative traffic condition categorization and proposed a new qualitative traffic condition decision types and decision measures. The developed algorithm can be classified into 9 types for qualitative traffic condition in consideration of historical time series of speed changes and traffic patterns. The performance of the algorithm is verified through individual matching analysis using the radar detector data in Ansan city. The results of this paper is expected to help promotion of the traffic information processing system, real-time traffic flow monitoring and management, use of historical traffic information, etc.

Qualitative models in model-based expert system needs modeling paradigm which provides intelligent control of modeling assumptions and extracts robust inferences without quantitative information about the system to be modeled. Qualitative reasoning methodologies has proved the property of the completeness but not the soundness to the corresponding quantitative model. We propose new methodology of qualitative reasoning by introducing the concept of Centroid-Oriented Composite Interval to improve the soundness problem. Arithmetic operations and equivalence classes were composed using this definition. Qualitative simulation results were compared to Kuipers's results and the improvements in the soundness problem is verified.

The physical tool for analyzing collision accidents narrows down to the conservation law of momentum. The conservation law of momentum which is also utilized to investigate or to analyze a traffic accident is essential to Newton mechanics. This paper suggests an alternative analytical tool based on the conservation law of momentum. Simply put, the tool is a alternative qualitative method of analyzing a car's direction to find out whether it is driving over the centerline This paper proposes a deduction theory that use qualitative information to make a qualitative analysis of which car drove over the center line.

This study was fulfilled in the purpose of proposing construction strategies of fashion information industry through the analysis of information user's satisfaction/dissatisfaction on information quality. The research was performed through a depth interview. Data were collected from 18 fashion information users(designers and merchandisers) who were working at fashion apparel industry during October to November 2007. Results from the study showed that there were three dimensions and 18 components of satisfaction/dissatisfaction on fashion information quality: Information quality(understandability, value-added, level of detail, relevance, diversity, objectivity, completeness, accuracy, quantitativeness), Service quality(responsiveness, accessibility, cost efficiency, empathy, reliability), System quality(currency, ease of use, format, timeliness). And the information users were perceiving that there were some changes in notion of preferring information, searching for information and usage of information.

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to analyze the trade structure and competitiveness of China's information technology (IT) industry in comparison to that of Korea and the United States, particularly in terms of quality. Design/methodology/approach - Indices such as trade specialization index (TSI), Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), and Market Comparative Advantage (MCA) are used. Further, an Intra-industry Trade (IIT) index is used to analyze qualitative changes in horizontal intra-industry trade and intra-industry trade of high- and low-quality goods. Findings - China's IT industry has a comparative competitive advantage over that of Korea and the United States, and mainly exports goods of inferior quality and imports goods of superior quality. Further, China's horizontal intra-industry trade has been decreasing, while its vertical intra-industry trade has been increasing and vertical trade of inferior quality goods outweighs that of superior quality goods. This shows that China is rapidly catching up with Korea and the United States, even though its qualitative competitiveness has not significantly improved. Research limitations/implication - This study has academic and political implications, as it analyzes changes in China's IT trade competitiveness. However, it is somewhat limited as factors determining qualitative aspects has not been considered. Originality/value - Most studies aggregate analyses of export competitiveness using methodologies such as TSI, RCA, and market share. However, the focus of these methods is price competitiveness. Hence, an examination of the objective and qualitative trade competitiveness of China's IT industry is necessary. this study the trade structure and quantitative competitiveness of the industry by analyzing intra-industry trade focusing on the quality of competitiveness. Therefore, the changes in China's IT industry in the USA and Korea and in foreign trade competitiveness and quality competitiveness are clarified. The results show that the academic and policy implications of these changes in the IT industry will be a useful resource. This is the first study in Korea to attempt such an analysis.
