Regression analysis has become a standard statistical tool in the behavioral science. Because of its widespread popularity. regression has been often misused. Such is the case when the dependent variable is a qualitative measure rather than a continuous, interval measure. Regression estimates with a qualitative dependent variable does not meet the assumptions underlying regression. It can lead to serious errors in the standard statistical inference. Logit model is recommended as alternatives to the regression model for qualitative dependent variables. Researchers can employ this model to measure the relationship between independent variables and qualitative dependent variables without assuming that logit model was derived from probabilistic choice theory. Coefficients in logit model are typically estimated by the method of Maximum Likelihood Estimation in contrast to ordinary regression model which estimated by the method of Least Squares Estimation. Goodness of fit in logit model is based on the likelihood ratio statistics and the t-statistics is used for testing the null hypothesis.

The physical tool for analyzing collision accidents narrows down to the conservation law of momentum. The conservation law of momentum which is also utilized to investigate or to analyze a traffic accident is essential to Newton mechanics. This paper suggests an alternative analytical tool based on the conservation law of momentum. Simply put, the tool is a alternative qualitative method of analyzing a car's direction to find out whether it is driving over the centerline This paper proposes a deduction theory that use qualitative information to make a qualitative analysis of which car drove over the center line.

For rational human value judgement and evaluation, provision of clear evaluation data, objective value judgement criteria, and properly generalized methods are required. For instance, this is true for software quality evaluation, and the measure of software quality and the weighting method of evaluation target directly affect final decisions. However it is not easy to find a generalized method for the software quality evaluation or product selection, because of its complex characteristics. In this paper, we apply the qualitative preference method based on quantitative belief functions to find a general weighing method for the software quality evaluation. In particular, the qualitative preference method, in which the differentiated preference expression is possible, is conceptually expanded for general applications in future. For this purpose, we hierarchically differentiate the strong preference relation from the weak preference relation, and show an example of quantification of software quality evaluation on different applications, by comparing the qualitative preference method with AHP. We believe that the application domain of this method is not limited to the software quality evaluation and it is very useful to apply this results to other SE areas, e.g., metric selection with different views and riority determination of practices to be assessed in the SPICE.

Major obstruction of using formal methods for hybrid real-time systems in industry is the difficulty that engineers have in understanding and applying the quantitative methods in an abstract requirements phase. While formal methods technology in safety-critical systems can help increase confidence of software, difficulty and complexity in using them can cause another hazard. In order to overcome this obstruction, we propose a framework for qualitative requirements engineering of the hybrid real-time systems. It consists of a qualitative method for requirements specification, called QFM (Qualitative Formal Method), and a safety analysis method for the requirements based on a causality information, called CRSA (Causal Requirements Safety Analysis). QFM emphasizes the idea of a causal and qualitative reasoning in formal methods to reduce the cognitive burden of designers when specifying and validating the software requirements of hybrid safety systems. CRSA can evaluate the logical contribution of the software elements to the physical hazard of systems by utilizing the causality information that is kept during specification by QFM. Using the Shutdown System 2 of Wolsong nuclear power plants as a realistic example, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to understand and describe difficulties and needs experienced by head nurses in the clinical practice education of nursing students. Methods: A qualitative descriptive method was employed. A convenience sampling method was used to recruit participants from four hospitals in South Korea. Twenty-one head nurses participated in the first interview and 17 of them participated in the second interview. Data were collected through two in-depth interviews and field notes were written. Qualitative content analysis method was utilized for data analysis using ATLAS.ti 6.2 software. Results: Thirty-one codes and twelve categories were identified. Four themes emerged from data analysis, which included 'too many tasks', 'limitations of student education', 'many differences', and 'lack of support and resources.' Conclusion: This qualitative study described head nurses' many difficulties and needs in the clinical practice education of nursing students. The results of this study provide valuable understanding and knowledge of head nurses' experiences in students' clinical education, which leads to improvement of the quality of clinical education for nursing students.

This qualitative study investigates how qualitative research methods are applied into educational journals, especially focusing on research articles in the field of mathematics education. Since the mid 90s, there has been growing interest in qualitative research in Korea. As a result, qualitative research methods are becoming one of the main research methods in education, quite different from before the mid 90s that quantitative research methods themselves alone were undispute d research methods. However, such change in research methods also lead to a matter of concern, the rigor and quality of qualitative research. In order to identify how qualitative research methods are applied, this study carefully selects an d analyzes 5 article that used qualitative methods and were published by Education of Primary School Mathematics Journal in 2012. Several leading scholars' ideas and theories of qualitative research are used in the analytical process, with careful attention paid to every detailed element of 5 selected articles. In sum, this study concludes with practical implications for qualitative researchers and discusses future directions for improving qualitative research practice.

Purpose: The purpose of this article was to describe feminism and to propose the integration of a feminist method into qualitative nursing methodology in order to expand the body of nursing knowledge. Method: The world view of feminism including philosophy, epistemology and methodology was outlined, and a feminist grounded theory and feminist ethnography were suggested as a way of strengthening nursing research methodology using literature review. Results: Four different philosophical perspectives of feminism, that is, liberal feminism, radical feminism, Marxist feminism, and social feminism were described. Also epistemological perspectives including feminist empiricism, feminist standpoint, and postmodem feminism, were explained and were related to the methodology and methods of feminism. To enhance the strengths of nursing research within the feminist perspectives, feminist grounded theory and feminist ethnography were exemplified in the paradigm of qualitative nursing research. Conclusion: This paper suggested that incorporation of feminist approaches within nursing is a valuable attempt to expand the body of nursing knowledge and to enhance the quality of nursing care services by rectifying male-oriented knowledge and by empowering women in the care of other people as well as themselves.

This paper introduces a branch of qualitative method, called an in-depth interview method. By collecting data from the stories of Korean middle school students and a 9th grade American girl who used Geometer's Sketchpad and various software respectively for their mathematical problem solving, the qualitative analysis leads us to understand how such software affect their lives with mathematics subject. The unique characteristics and strands of each student's utterances reflect how software plays a role of learning aid for their mathematics learning. The arm of this study is both to get a good picture of each student's self-perceived relationship to mathematics as well as to explore external and objective parameters and factors in each student's internal situations. The qualitative descriptions of the collected data help us guide the students to the points where they could develop their interests and satisfaction with subject matter better. In this way, teachers may have more realistic understandings of how students become interested and motivated by mathematics, so that they are better able to find out ways of grasping the totalities of how the use of technology is interwoven into the school curricular.

Not only in building design but also in HVAC system design, it is important to ensure an objectivity in schematic design. In the study, the author suggested a method to make a logical decision for quality design factors a(footing the selection of HVAC type in initial design process, and to provide objective design values. Fuzzy theory, one of the theories describing in quantitative way the ambiguous-natured linguistic values, was used to determine the qualitative design factors of linguistic parameter nature. It was found that it has a potential as a method to determine a HVAC type satisfying the required values of qualitative design factors involved in selection of the system type. But this needs further studies to be settled in the selecting of HVAC type.
