  • Characteristics of base isolators including frictional and hysteretic types may be described by Bouc-Wen model. A probabilistic optimum design method of the base isolation system using Bouc-Wen model is presented in this paper. For optimum design, the objective function and constraints are derived based on the stochastic responses of the system. As a numerical example, the optimum design problem of a three-story base isolated shear type structure is formulated and solved by the sequential quadratic programming method.

  • Dispersion parameters for the number of piglets born alive were estimated using a repeatability and random regression model. Six sow breeds/lines were included in the analysis: Swedish Landrace, Large White and both crossbred lines between them, German Landrace and their cross with Large White. Fixed part of the model included sow genotype, mating season as month-year interaction, parity and weaning to conception interval as class effects. The age at farrowing was modelled as a quadratic regression nested within parity. The previous lactation length was fitted as a linear regression. Random regressions for parity on Legendre polynomials were included for direct additive genetic, permanent environmental, and common litter environmental effects. Orthogonal Legendre polynomials from the linear to the cubic power were fitted. In the repeatability model estimate of heritability was 0.07, permanent environmental effect as ratio was 0.04, and common litter environmental effect as ratio was 0.01. Estimates of genetic parameters with the random regression model were generally higher than in the repeatability model, except for the common litter environmental effect. Estimates of heritability ranged from 0.06 to 0.10. Permanent environmental effect as a ratio increased along a trajectory from 0.03 to 0.11. Magnitudes of common litter effect were small (around 0.01). The eigenvalues of covariance functions showed that between 7 and 8 % of genetic variability was explained by individual genetic curves of sows. This proportion was mainly covered by linear and quadratic coefficients. Results suggest that the random regression model could be used for genetic analysis of litter size.

A Study on the Spatial Distribution Characteristic of Urban Surface Temperature using Remotely Sensed Data and GIS (원격탐사자료와 GIS를 활용한 도시 표면온도의 공간적 분포특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study used four theoretical models, such as two-point linear model, linear regression model, quadratic regression model and cubic regression model which are presented from The Ministry of Science and Technology, for extraction of urban surface temperature from Landsat TM band 6 image. Through correlation and regression analysis between result of four models and AWS(automatic weather station) observation data, this study could verify spatial distribution characteristic of urban surface temperature using GIS spatial analysis method. The result of analysis for surface temperature by landcover showed that the urban and the barren land belonged to the highest surface temperature class. And there was also -0.85 correlation in the result of correlation analysis between surface temperature and NDVI. In this result, the meteorological environmental characteristics wuld be regarded as one of the important factor in urban planning.

  • In this paper, we aim to draw up an alternative instruction scheme by designing a web based instruction model on mathematics. Some learning materials are developed according to the scheme, and its educational effects are examined when it is committed to through regular curriculum. The study is composed of three major parts; setting of the theoretical foundation on cultivating Web based educational materials, design and composition of Web based teaching-learning model, and its experiments in the regular class. First of all, we are concerned with the core principles on WBI including the learning theories, developing learner oriented instruction model, design as well as build-up process for education materials, and strategy in instruction. Next, we propose an alternative instruction model for mathematics, in which programs to embody mathematics education and instruction on the Web are constructed, on the while, the study is proceeded through the Web Site. Finally, we design and produce a WBI instruction model on the subject of the plane quadratic curves. This model is examined in the regular class to estimate its educational effects compared with traditional teaching standpoints. Concomitantly, we explore essential elements and the direction of future growth associated with the Web oriented education.

  • In this paper we point out that if the classical principal domain for bispectra is utilized to determine a second-order Volterra model's output, such and output will be incomplete. This deficiency is associated with the periodic nature of the DFT. For this reason, the objective of this paper is to present an "extended" principal domain for Volterra kernels which leads to an improved estimate of the nonlinear system's response. In order to define the extended principal domain, we derive a new discrete frequency-domain Volterra model from a discrete time-domain Volterra model utilizing 2-dimensional DFT and the relationship between the quadratic component of the Volterra model and a square filter. The effect of the extended domain on the model output is interpreted in terms of the periodicity of DFT. Through computer simulations, we demonstrate the effects of the extended principal domain on the Volterra modeling. The simulation results indicate that the extended principal domain plays and important role in computing Volterra model outputs and estimating Volterra model coefficients.

  • In poultry diets, a requirement of crude protein is one of the most important factors in poultry productivity. Besides, the Pekin duck requirement of crude protein is still not clear. This experiment was conducted to determine the crude protein requirement of Pekin duck on diet formulation by investigation of growth performance, carcass trait, and analysis of blood parameter for a hatch to 21-day (d) of age. A total of 432 male White Pekin ducks were randomly allocated to six levels of crude protein (i.e., 15%, 17%, 19%, 21%, 23%, and 25%) to give six replicate pens per treatment with 12 ducklings per each pen. Body weight and feed intake were measured weekly by calculating feed conversion ratio and protein intake. Two ducklings each pen was euthanized via cervical dislocation for analysis of carcass trait and plasma blood on 21-d of age. Data were applied on both prediction linear-plateau and quadratic-plateau models by estimation of the crude protein requirements. The level of crude protein requirements of Pekin ducks for 21 days after the hatch was estimated to be 20.63% and 23.25% diet for maximum daily gain, and minimum feed conversion ratio, respectively.

Use of Response Surface Methods to Optimize the Formula of Non-frozen Pound Cake (반응표면분석법에 의한 비동결 파운드 케이크의 최적 배합비 설정)

  • The optimal formula for non-frozen pound cake was sought using a central composite design with a quadratic model, by response surface methodology (RSM). Behavior on supercooling, freezing time, theological properties, and sensory attributes of pound cake were studied by using various concentrations of sugar, sorbitol, and glycerol. The freezing temperature of standard pound cake was $-16.16^{\circ}C$. The hardness, freezing point temperature, and sensory properties were shown as a quadratic relationship whereas moisture content was analyzed by a linear model. Optimized formula for non-frozen cake were suggested to include (sugar:sorbitol:glycerol) 77.6:0.0:20.4, 60.0:32.8:16.4, and 70.8:11.2:19.6 (all % of total sugar) by RSM. The freezing tines of optimized non-frozen pound cake were reduced by $27{\sim}45%$. The freezing Points of optimized pound cake were depressed below $-20^{\circ}C$. Sorbitol and glycerol may be used as cryoprotectants and preserve the desired sensory attributes of pound cake at low temperatures.

Predicting standardized ileal digestibility of lysine in full-fat soybeans using chemical composition and physical characteristics

  • Objective: The present work was conducted to evaluate suitable variables and develop prediction equations using chemical composition and physical characteristics for estimating standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of lysine (Lys) in full-fat soybeans (FFSB). Methods: The chemical composition and physical characteristics were determined including trypsin inhibitor activity (TIA), urease activity (UA), protein solubility in 0.2% potassium hydroxide (KOH), protein dispersibility index (PDI), lysine to crude protein ratio (Lys:CP), reactive Lys:CP ratio, neutral detergent fiber, neutral detergent insoluble nitrogen (NDIN), acid detergent insoluble nitrogen (ADIN), acid detergent fiber, L* (lightness), and a* (redness). Pearson's correlation (r) was computed, and the relationship between variables was determined by linear or quadratic regression. Stepwise multiple regression was performed to develop prediction equations for SID of Lys. Results: Negative correlations (p<0.01) between SID of Lys and protein quality indicators were observed for TIA (r = -0.80), PDI (r = -0.80), and UA (r = -0.76). The SID of Lys also showed a quadratic response (p<0.01) to UA, NDIN, TIA, L*, KOH, a* and Lys:CP. The best-fit model for predicting SID of Lys in FFSB included TIA, UA, NDIN, and ADIN, resulting in the highest coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.94). Conclusion: Quadratic regression with one variable indicated the high accuracy for UA, NDIN, TIA, and PDI. The multiple linear regression including TIA, UA, NDIN, and ADIN is an alternative model used to predict SID of Lys in FFSB to improve the accuracy. Therefore, multiple indicators are warranted to assess either insufficient or excessive heat treatment accurately, which can be employed by the feed industry as measures for quality control purposes to predict SID of Lys in FFSB.

Prediction of $EC_{50}$ of Photobacterium phosphoreum for CAHs and Chlorophenol Derivatives Using QSAR (QSAR방법을 이용한 CAHs와 Chlorophenol 유도체에 대한 $EC_{50}$값 예측)

  • Measurement of inhibition of bioluminescence in Photobacterium phosphoreum has been porposed as a sensitive and rapid procedure to monitor toxic substances. However, at first, $EC_{50}$ which shows degree of toxicity to each toxic substances must be calculated. QSAR (Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship) model can be used to estimate $EC_{50}$ to save time and endeavor. Moderately high correlation coefficients ($r^2{\geq}$ 0.97) were calculated from the linear correlation between $EC_{50}$ and molecular connectivity indices of CAHs (chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons)such as $^0X$, $^0X^V$, $^1X$, $^2X$ and $^3X^v_c$ and quadratic correlation between $EC_{50}$ and $^0X$, $^0X^V$, $^2X^V$, $^3X_c$, $^3X^V_c$ and P. It shows that the molecular connection indices in carbon structure is contributed to biological characters with linear relation and that in the other one with quadratic relation. The $EC_{50}$ of chlorophenol derivatives had quadratic relation with the value of octanol/water prtition coefficients ($r^2$=0.99) and linear and quadratic relation with the number of chlorine compound (($r^2{\geq}$0.94). This confirms the already known trend of increasing toxicity with increasing ability of a compound to diffuse through cell membrane and number of chlorine substitution.

  • This paper presents dynamic modelling and simulation study on attitude/altitude control of an insect-mimicking flapping micro aerial vehicle during hovering. Mathematical modelling consists of three parts: simplified flapping kinematics, flapping-wing aerodynamics, and six degree of freedom dynamics. Attitude stabilization is accomplished through linear quadratic regulator based on the linearized model of the time-varying nonlinear system, and altitude control is designed in the outer loop using PID control. The performance of the proposed controller is verified through numerical simulation where attitude stabilization and altitude control is done for hovering. In addition, it is confirmed that the attitude channel by periodic control is marginally stable against periodic pitching moment caused by flapping.
