  • In order to identify the factors responsible for the recent drastic increase of imported apparel in Korea, an attempt was made to determine the variables influencing the purchasing behavior of imported and domestic apparel and forecast the purchasing intention with the use of Fishbein & Ajzen's behavioral intention model including both attitude and subjective norm. Based on literature review, the empirical study was conducted using the questionnaire for 900 college women and high school girls living in Seoul. Descriptive statistics, t-test, paired-t test, multiple regression analysis, and correlation analysis were made of 771 returned questionnaires using SAS program. The results were as follows : First, the results of assessing both their attitudes toward imported and domestic apparel and their subjective norms were shown to be different. Second, there was a difference in the attributes that had an effect on their attention to buy imported and domestic apparel. Third, those respondents having a preference for imported apparel were most highly influenced by color and price. While those respondents showing a preference for domestic apparel were most highly influenced by materials and comfortableness. Fourth, the validity of the prediction value of their buying intention was confirmed as it was shown to be more than coreelation coefficien r=0.65. In conclusion, 1) it was proved that both attitude and subjective norm were the important variables that could predict the consumer's purchasing intention, 2) since competitiveness in color and materials and brand influencing the consumer's purchase of and preference for domestic apparel relatively lagged behind in comparison with that of imported apparel, the domestic apparel business enterprise will have to make a greater effort to develop differentiated color, material and prestigious brand so as to enhance competitiveness with imported apparel.

From 310 questionnaires that were distributed, 310 with usable data were coded for further statistical analysis including descriptive statistics(frequency and chi-square test), by using SPSSWIN 10.0. The results were as follows: The results show that since the surveyed women's purchasing patterns were varied according to their ages it is necessary to develop new items and designs tailored for particular needs and wants of each age group. For those in their 20's, it is suggested that the innerwear design may consider reflecting the trend of the young women nowadays as characterized by a major fashion-led group who regard fashion as a way of expressing themselves and are not hesitant to wear clothing designed to be exposed their body. The innerwear products for women in their 30's and 40's should emphasize on the aspects of customizing and satisfying these women's different lifestyles. The study also reveal that for age groups of the 50's and 60's women these products should be developed in a way to intensify functions of thermal property and absorbency coupled with a classic design rather than daring styles. In conjunction with material developments it is necessary to establish a sizing system for the knitted innerwear products which reflect the specific characteristics of women's body type in their middle-and later years.

  • This study estimates the random utility function of fluid milk using 1,165 survey responses in Laos. It finds that both products' attributes and individual characteristics affect consumers' preference for the milk and the hypothetical brand of Laos-Korea has a potential compared to four real dairy products. Results also show that calories have a positive relationship with consumer's preference while the price and fat content have a negative one. The decision for choosing each brand is significantly affected by individual characteristics such as gender, age, whether or not respondents live with their children, the level of education, income, the frequency of purchasing milk per week, and the region where they live. The preference for five brands appears in the order of Foremost, Nabong, Thai-Danish, Meiji, and Lao-Korea, and probabilities of purchasing each brand at the mean level are 30.9%, 17.48%, 21.48%, 15.0% and 10.39%, respectively. Nabong that was Lao national milk brand still has a significant market power even though it was closed in 2008. The policies to promote milk industry by implementing its national milk brand again would be more effective if it focuses on the young generation, female consumers, families with children, quality of dairy products, and Vientiane capital areas.

The preference and choice attribute questionnaires were compared. Significant differences were obtained between the two groups when considering the purchase experience, preference, and selection attributes of plant-based dairy alternatives. In both groups, environmental and animal protection were the major factors that influenced the highest response rate for purchasing plant-based dairy alternatives. The preference score of vegetarians for plant-based dairy alternative products was high, indicating that vegetarianism had a significant effect on their preference for plant-based dairy alternative products. Analysis of selection attributes revealed that price, product weight, appearance, and manufacturer were considered important by vegetarians, whereas nutritional components and labeling, manufacturing environment, composition of ingredients, and taste and texture were considered more important by the omnivores. Results of this study can be used as basic data for the future development of the fast-growing industry producing plant-based dairy alternative products.
