Active Voltage-balancing Control Methods for the Floating Capacitors and DC-link Capacitors of Five-level Active Neutral-Point-Clamped Converter

  • Multilevel active neutral-point-clamped (ANPC) converter combines the advantages of three-level ANPC converter and multilevel flying capacitor (FC) converter. However, multilevel ANPC converter often suffers from capacitor voltage balancing problems. In order to solve the capacitor voltage balancing problems for five-level ANPC converter, phase-shifted pulse width modulation (PS-PWM) is used, which generally provides natural voltage balancing ability. However, the natural voltage balancing ability depends on the load conditions and converter parameters. In order to eliminate voltage deviations under steady-state and dynamic conditions, the active voltage-balancing control (AVBC) methods of floating capacitors and dc-link capacitors based on PS-PWM are proposed. First, the neutral-point current is regulated to balance the neutral-point voltage by injecting zero-sequence voltage. After that, the duty cycles of the redundant switch combinations are adjusted to balance the floating-capacitor voltages by introducing moderating variables for each of the phases. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed AVBC methods is verified by experimental results.

The Depressive effect of Acupuncture on Gangap-point and Depletion on Taech'u-point in Stroke Patients (뇌졸중(腦卒中) 환자(患者)에서 강압혈(降壓穴) 자침(刺針)과 대추혈(大推穴) 사혈(瀉血)의 강압효과(降壓效果))

  • Objective : The aim of this research was to investigate the depressive effect of acupuncture on Gangap-point and depletion on Taech'u-point in stroke patients. Methods : We measured the blood pressure of the patients who were admitted in the Oriental Medical hopital of Dongeui medical center from 21. Oct. 2001. to 20. Jan. 2002. 19 stroke patients were devided into two groups. 12 patients were treated by acupunctured on Gangap-point. The other 7 patients were treated by depletion on Taech'u-point. The activity of daily living was measured. If systolic blood pressure was over 160 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure was over 90 mmHg, acupunctured on Gangap-point and depletion on Taech'u-point were performed. Then 30minutes and 60minutes later, systolic, diastolic blood pressure and pulse rates were measured Results : After 30 minute treatment. both acupuncture on Gnagap-point and depletion on Taech'u-point significantly depressed the systolic blood pressure. After 60 minute treatment. only depletion on Taech'u-point were statistically significant in depressing the systolic blood pressure. Pulse rates were not significantly changed. Conclusion : These results suggest that depletion on Taech'u-point is more effective in depressing the systolic blood pressure than acupuncture on Gnagap-point.

  • The 1Gbps clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit using the proposed multi-point phase detector (PD) is presented. The proposed phase detector generates up/down signals comparing 3-point that is data transition point and clock rising/falling edge. The conventional PD uses the pulse width modulation (PWM) that controls the voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) using the width of a pulse period's multiple. However, the proposed PD uses the pulse number modulation (PNM) that regulates the VCO with the number of half clock cycle pulse. Therefore the proposed PD can controls VCO preciously and reduces the jitter. The CDR circuit is tested using 1Gbps $2^{31}-1$ pseudo random bit sequence (PRBS) input data. The designed CDR circuit shows that is capable of recovering clock and data at rates of 1Gbps. The recovered clock jitter is 7.36ps at 1GHz and the total power consumption is about 12mW. The proposed circuit is implemented using a 0.18um CMOS process under 1.8V supply.

  • It is need to develop and apply a human pulse diagnosis system providing a quantitative and automatic analysis in the the oriental medicine. In order to analyze quantitatively the characteristic of pulsation, each of points had to be recognized accurately notifying the existence and the position of feature point in the wave form. And getting the period of human pulse. Thus, in this paper, it is proposed the preprocessing method of human pulse and the detection method of period by Wavelet Transformation. The human pulse is seprated from each band through Wavelet Transformation and feature points can be recognized through over the fact, and then the parameter of proposed Mac-Jin parameter is measured. Commonly, Human pulse signal has often various noises which are baseline drift, high frequency noise and so on. So it is significant to remove that noises. Thus, in this paper, the one period of human pulse is deciede and the feature points are detected after doing the preprocessing by wavelet transformation. As a result, it could be confirmed that this method is effective as a real program for the auto-diagnosis of human pulse.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the systematic process on the discrimination of Sasang constitution with the pulse diagnosis apparatus. The pulse waves were acquired at the right and the left Guan point with 1420 people who were apparently healthy. In order to minimize the effect of aging on the shape of pulse wave, the age groups of 30s, 40s, and 50s were used. Taeum group was the best to classify, Soyang group was the worst. With the same group size, the sensitivity of Soyang group was increased. Input variables were selected with the consideration of the floating-sink ratio, tests of equality of group means, multiple comparison, multicollinearity, and structure matrix. To increase the sensitivity of Soyang, the variables which could tell the difference between Soyang and Soeum were selected.

  • Until now, strain gage technique and accelerometer for the diagnosis safety of constructions are used widely. However, the limits of these methods are revealed. But Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) that uses Pulse Laser is noncontact, whole-field, real-time measuring method also dull to disturbance and can achieve test result in a very short time. It has various strong point in spot application, swift establishment, and dynamic conduct analysis for the entire field of Laser illuminate. This author analyzed vibration characteristic of using the Pulse ESPI System, the diagnosis safety of bridges, to simplify the analysis of the dynamic conduct of a large construction.

  • Because linear motor directly drives linear motion, it does not need conversion equipment such as belt and gear. Especially linear pulse motor provide more precise positioning and large force of linear pulse motors. As current manufacture technic of linear pulse motor is much to be desired at home. This motor lay out to make use of computer aided design program, In this paper the experimental motor is 2-phases 4-poles hybrid pulse motor which has teeth per pole Simulation program is divided its function into 4 parts - air gap permeance analysis, permanent magnet & non-linear core operating point determine, winding configuration, leakage flux analysis. It is possible to make motor static and magnetic characteristics for this simulation program. Also, by varying input parameters of the program, experimental motor is to be compared to motor characteristics.

  • Cryogenic refrigerator system is necessary for cooling the superconducting rotor. Among the various cryogenic refrigerator systems, on-board hybrid pulse tube cryocooler is designed for cooling the superconducting rotor. Hybrid pulse tube cryocooler is composed of pulse tube cryocooler and Stirling cryocooler. This Stirling cryocooler precools the middle point of regenerator to obtain lower temperature at cold part of pulse tube cryocooler. In this paper, only Stirling cryocooler is on-boarded then rotated by motor for various rotating speeds and heat loads at cold part of Stilting cryocooler. Through this experiment the feasibility of the on-board cryocooler is investigated.

  • A theoretical study of Brillouin optical time domain analysis (BOTDA) using two pulse lasers is performed. Even though a point detection is made for a pump pulse period, the dynamic range of BOTDA using two pulse lasers is approximately 5 dB more than that of a pulse and a CW laser when the fiber length is 140 km and the Stokes power is 1 mW.

  • This paper proposes a 36-pulse back-to-back voltage source converter using four sets of 12-pulse bridges with pulse-Interleaving auxiliary circuit. The proposed back-to-back voltage source converter has an independent control capability of active power and reactive power at the at connection point. The principle of increasing the number of pulses was analyzed using theoretical approach. The operational feasibility of proposed system was verified through computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software. The proposed back-to-back converter can be widely used for the HVDC and FACTS devices.
