This study was aimed at investigating effluent water quality and proposing reuse possibilities for 12 sewage treatment plants discharged more than $5,000m^3/day$ in order to recycle the sewage treatment plant effluent of Jeollabuk-do effectively. Additionally, a laboratory scale test for reprocessing water discharge was performed. Categories of reclaimed sewage water reuse were divided into 7 topics and analyzed a total of 28 items including 16 heavy metals based on water quality standard. As a results, color, BOD, TN, chloride and Electrical Conductivity (EC) exceeded reused water quality standard. In particular, color and TN exceeded in 8 and 5 sewage treatment plants, respectively. The value of chloride and EC were high in sewage treatment plants including the food and industrial wastewater. At 4 sewage treatment plants were possible to reuse without re-treatment. The laboratory scale test was conducted to SandFilter (SF)-Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)-MicroFiltraion (MF)-Reverse Osmosis (RO). Both the removal efficiencies and economic feasibility of total E. coli., color and Suspended Solid (SS) suited in case using the SF-GAC treatment method. The removal of chloride and EC had little effect in the case of SF-GAC-MF system, but RO showed over 90% of removal efficiency. After using SF-GAC process only, the concentration of $UV_{254}$ decreased sharply from 0.3651 /cm to 0.0306 /cm and it showed over 92% of removal efficiency rate. In conclusion, for the effective reuse of sewage discharged water, water quality and the surrounding terrain of treatment plants should be all taken into account. If it needed for the reprocessing, both the selection for treatment and economic combination treatment methods will have to be considered.

This study was performed to investigate the distribution and decomposition characteristics of organic matter in stream water and sewage effluent located in Gwangju. Average of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) to total organic carbon (TOC) ratio was approximately 73.9% in the Youngsan river system. The concentration of refractory dossolved carbon (RDOC) was 3.7 mg/L corresponding to 80.9% of the DOC. The ratio of recalcitrant organic carbon was relatively higher than that of biodegradable organic carbon in stream. Oxidation efficiencies in the stream were 45.0% for BOD, 63.0% for $COD_{Mn}$ and 106.5% for CODcr. In case of sewage effluent was 33.6%, 65.7% and 136.1% respectively. Mean decomposition rate ($K_d$) of Youngsan river mainstream, its tributary sites and sewage effluent were about $0.042\;day^{-1}$, $0.043\;day^{-1}$ and $0.028\;day^{-1}$, respectively and the difference was not significant between the mainstream and its tributary sites (t-test, p>0.05). $K_d$ of the sewage effluent was lower than that of stream water.
As the environmental concerns have shifted gradually from the environmental pollutions to the Quality of Life (QOL) enhancement, it has become increasingly important to implement comprehensive assessment of environmental quality for public information as well as decision making. This study focuses on development of PEI(Public Environment Index) which has purposes to improve regional environment and analyzes the status of environment by public as one kind of environmental indices. Factors of PEI calculations are air, water, noise, green space and landscape. Factors are composed of 20 items including soiling and odor. Major contents are calculation of PEI, correlation analysis of factors and items of PEI, regression analysis of PEI and objective environmental indicators prepared as a dong unit, and PEI presentation using GIS. Also, for applying PEI effectively, environmental information as a dong unit is to be collected and managed periodically.
Using three Austrian case studies, the variegated applications of molecular typing in today's public health laboratories are discussed to help illustrate preventive management strategies relying on DNA subtyping. DNA macrorestriction analysis by pulsed field gel electrophoresis has become the gold standard for subtyping of food borne pathogens like listeria, salmonella, campylobacter and Bacillus cereus. Using a Salmonella Mbandaka outbreak from the year 2010 as example, it is shown how the comparison of patterns from human isolates, food isolates, animal isolates and feed isolates can allow to identify and confirm a source of disease. An epidemiological connection between the simultaneous occurrence of tuberculosis in cattle and deer with cases of human tuberculosis due to Mycobacterium caprae in 2010 was excluded using mycobacterial interspersed repetitive units variable-number tandem repeats subtyping. Also in 2010, multilocus sequence typing with nonselective housekeeping genes, the so-called sequence based typing protocol, was used to elucidate connections between an environmental source (a hospital drinking water system) and a case of legionellosis. During the last decades, molecular typing has evolved to become a routine tool in the daily work of public health laboratories. The challenge is now no longer to simply type microorganisms, but to type them in a way that allows for data exchange between public health laboratories all over the world.
Main objectives of this survey were to find out general sanitary status of water source, draining status and toilet in Shindong Myun, Chungseong Gun. Interviewers of fourteen students visited 1,775 households in this Myun, filled the survey form and checked sanitary conditions of the areas from September 1 to November 30, 1974. Results are summarized as follows: 1. Draining state of pumps is better than that of wells and also the the quality of water sources are better in pumps than in wells. Wells and pumps of 54.1% were constructed more than five years ago. 2. About 66.7% use pump water, 10.5% well water and 8.3% simple piped drinking water system and average water consumption is 22.7l per day per capita. Private water system is 66.0% while public system 27.1%. 3. Water is used for drinking, washing body and cleaning at 53.8% while only for drinking at 7.4%. 4. Nearest pollution sources of drinking water are mainly toilets and stables, and average distances between them are less than ten meters. 5. Toilets of 78.3% are used only by one households and those of 12.9% by two. 6. Toilets of 10.9% are inside main building while those of 85.4% outside main building. 7. Toilet tanks are covered only at 6.3% households while not covered at 95.4%. The contents of tanks are removed about twice a month (40.2%), and 84.1% use them as fertilizer on their own farm and contents of 10.1% are removed by other people. 8. Excreta are utilized on the vegetable farm by 38.2% households, on the vegetable and barley farms by 19.7% and on the paddy fields by 8.2%.
North Korea's discharge of water from a dam into the Imjin River that flows through the inter-Korean border swept away a riverside camping site early Sunday morning, killing six people. This tragic incident might have been prevented if the North had given prior notice of the release from its Hwanggang Dam to the South. Investigations are under way to determine the reasons behind the unexpected act. This incident was a man-made disaster not least death of six people. A water level monitoring system(WLMS) of the Imjin River was installed the bridge of Pilseung that operate three public institutions. The WLMS of the A institution set up warning siren and broadcasting as the water level has been rising the bridge of Pilseung in the Imjin River. But the A institution's system was already out of side before discharged of water a dam into the Imjin River and the operators were culpable negligence. The B institution's office employee on charges of negligence that might have contributed to the tragedy and one of the A institution's employees ignored 26 warning messages on the WLMS. This tragic incident was a man-made disaster not least death of six people and might have been prevented if the WLMS was normally operated and the system operators must be worked a tight.
As popultations expand and economies develop, increasing competition for limited available water resources is occurring among many water users. This has brought greater attention to water allocation with legal and institutional constraints. This paper develops a optimal water allocation methodology to basinwide water resources allocation, which ensures that scare water resources are allocated among competing water users. The methodology need to be based on optimization technique to allocate water resources due to an extended scaled of river basin. The recommended model is developed to accomplish economic efficiency, equity and sustainability objectives. The appropriate case study is tested with various existing water right system allocation model and the recommended model. The result shows the applicability of model to the complex hydrologic system with legal and institutional constraints.

In recent years, contamination of drinking water sources has emerged as a serious social problem, such as a large number of impurities in tap water or groundwater or the supply of suitable water due to rust of pipes. Although the government and public institutions are implementing various measures to protect water sources, they cannot improve water quality in a short period of time because of the enormous cost involved. Therefore, in recent years, preference has been given to a device that converts tap water, which is hard water, into soft water by installing a separate water softener at the faucet from which tap water is discharged. However, the existing filtration device has a problem that filtration performance is gradually lowered when impurities accumulate in the filter, requiring continuous filter replacement. In this study, the optimal design of the filter housing was performed to develop a water softener that can be washed when impurities accumulate on the filter inside the water softener connected to the faucet. For optimal design of the filter housing, fluid and fluid-structural interaction analysis were performed on the design pressure to determine the shape and thickness of the housing, and design review was performed through prototype.

In recent, there has been progressed in various ways of research and development about a ubiquitous telemetry reading, but several problems are arising the reliability of reading value, power supply and so on. These issues were solved by using the RF module and digital pulse meter with photocoupler. Realized by this study, a telemetry reading system, utilizing RF and CDMA telecommunication, and check in real time the state of water leakage by managing the distinct usage data. In addition, the users can check it in person, and it can minimize the public enmities. Further, as a part of the silver industry fur constantly growing senior population, it might be introduced as safety supervision system.
Irrigated and flooded rice paddy contributes to the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) that affect climate. This in turn affects the supply and reliability of the water needed for rice production. This dynamic makes current rice production methods foreseeably less sustainable over time while having other undesirable effects. Intermittent irrigation by a means of the system of rice intensification (SRI) and alternate wetting and drying (AWD) methods was reviewed to reduce global warming potential (GWP) from 29% to 90% depending on site-specific characteristics from flooded rice paddy and analyzed to be a promising option for enhancing the productivity of water as well, an increasingly constraining resource. Additional benefits associated with the SRI/AWD can be less arsenic in the grain and less degradation of water quality in the run-off from rice paddies. Adoption and expansion of intermittent irrigation of SRI/AWD may require costly public and private investments in irrigation infrastructure that can precisely make irrigation control, and the involvement and upgrading of water management agencies and farmer organizations to enhance management capabilities. Private and public collaboration as a means of earning carbon credit under the clean-development mechanism (CDM) with SRI/AWD for industries to meet as a part of their GHG emission quota as well as a social contribution and publicity program could contribute to adopt intermittent irrigation and rural investment and development. Also, inclusion of SRI and AWD in programs designed under CDM and/or in official development assistance (ODA) projects could contribute to climate-change mitigation and help to achieve UN sustainable development goals (SDGs).
