  • The electrochemical behavior of dissolved hydrogen (H2) was investigated at a Pt electrode in a high temperature LiOH-H3BO3 solution. The diffusion current of the H2 oxidation was proportional to the concentration of the dissolved H2 as well as the reciprocal of the temperature. In the polarization curve, a potential region in which the oxidation current decreases despite an increase in the applied potential between the H2 oxidation and the water oxidation regions was observed. This potential region was interpreted as being caused by the formation of a Pt oxide layer. Using the properties of the Cl- ion that reduces the growth rate of the Pt oxide layer, it was confirmed that there is a correlation between the Cl- ion concentration and the transient current of the H2 oxidation.

  • We have used a plasma etching method in order to develop a concave-type Pt electrode capacitor to overcome the limitation of conventional stack-type capacitor in a small critical-dimension (CD) pattern. We have deposited Pt layer on the concave-type structure made by patterning of $SiO_2$ and subsequently we separated the adjacent nodes by etch-back process with photoresist (PR) as a protecting layer.

  • In this study, we present an excellent approach for easily and uniformly immobilizing Pt, Au and bimetallic PtAu nanoparticles (NPs) on a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT)-coated layer through dry plasma reduction. The NPs are stably and uniformly immobilized on the surface of MWNTs and the nanohybrid materials are applied to counter electrode (CE) of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). The electrochemical properties of CEs are examined through cyclic voltammogram, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and Tafel measurements. As a result, both electrochemical catalytic activity and electrical conductivity are highest for PtAu/MWNT electrode. The DSC employing PtAu/MWNT CE exhibits power conversion efficiency of 7.9%. The efficiency is better than those of devices with MWNT (2.6%), AuNP/MWNT (2.7%) and PtNP/MWNT (7.5%) CEs.

  • Dye-sensitezed solar cell(DSSC) has aroused intense interest owing to its competitive price and stabilized properties than Si based solar cells. Recently, many studies have been reported on the DSSC, especially development of Pt-free counter electrode. In this paper, graphene is chosen counter electrode for low cost material and developed its properties. To estimate the properties of counter electrode, graphene and Pt thin films have been fabricated on FTO substrates respectively, than the films are tested AFM and J-V evaluation method. A graphene of 0.1 wt% has shown current density of 11.68 mA/cm2, maximum efficiency of 4.34% which is similar with that of Pt counter electrode. It confirmed that graphene could be good material for counter electrode if its synthesizing conditions were developed.

  • Sputter deposition on a Pt counter electrode was studied using radio frequency (RF) plasma as the improvement of incident photon to current conversion efficiency (IPCE) for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). Effects of the sputtering thickness and the incident angle on a Pt counter electrode for DSCs were investigated. Experiments to get the optimal sputtering time for the performance of the DSCs were carried out. And it is found that the optimized sputtering time was 120 seconds, in addition, the incident angles of the substrate was adjusted from $0^{\circ}$ to $60^{\circ}$. The maximum efficiency of 5.37% was obtained at the incident angle of $40^{\circ}$ with an active cell area of $1cm^2$.

  • A disposable solid-state pH sensor was realized by utilizing two nanoporous Pt (npPt) electrodes and a copolyelectrolytic junction. One nanoporous Pt electrode was to measure the pH as an indicating electrode (pH-IE) and the other assembled with copolyelectrolytic junction was to maintain constant open circuit potential ($E_{oc}$) as a solid-state reference electrode (SSRE). The copolyelectrolytic junction was composed of cationic and anionic polymers immobilized by photo-polymerization of N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide, making buffered electrolytic environment on the SSRE. It was expected to make. The nanoporous Pt surrounded by a constant pH excellently worked as a solid state reference electrode so as to stabilize the system within 30 s and retain the electrochemical environment regardless of unknown sample solutions. Combination between the SSRE and the pH-IE commonly based on nanoporous Pt yielded a complete solid-state pH sensor that requires no internal filling solution. The solid state pH sensing chip is simple and easy to fabricate so that it could be practically used for disposable purposes. Moreover, the solid-state pH sensor successfully functions in calibration-free mode in a variety of buffers and surfactant samples.

  • The electrochemical detection of As(III) was investigated on a platinum-iron(III) nanoparticles modified multiwalled carbon nanotube on glassy carbon electrode(nanoPt-Fe(III)/MWCNT/GCE) in 0.1 M $H_2SO_4$. The nanoPt-Fe(III)/MWCNT/GCE was prepared via continuous potential cycling in the range from -0.8 to 0.7 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), in 0.1 M KCl solution containing 0.9 mM $K_2PtCl_6$ and 0.6 mM $FeCl_3$. The Pt nanoparticles and iron oxide were co-electrodeposited into the MWCNT-Nafion composite film on GCE. The resulting electrode was examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV). For the detection of As(III), the nanoPt-Fe(III)/MWCNT/GCE showed low detection limit of 10 nM (0.75 ppb) and high sensitivity of $4.76\;{\mu}A{\mu}M^{-1}$, while the World Health Organization's guideline value of arsenic for drinking water is 10 ppb. It is worth to note that the electrode presents no interference from copper ion, which is the most serious interfering species in arsenic detection.

  • Herein, we report an electrode surface with a hierarchical assembly of wild-type M13 virus nanofibers (M13) to nucleate the AuPt alloy nanostructures by electrodeposition. M13 was pulled on the electrode surface to produce a virus film, and then a layer of sol-gel matrix (SSG) was wrapped over the surface to protect the film, thereby a bio-template was constructed. Blending of metal binding domains of M13 and amine groups of the SSG of the bio-template were effectively nucleate and directed the growth of nanostructures (NSs) such as Au, Pt and AuPt alloy onto the modified electrode surface by electrodeposition. An electrocatalytic activity of the modified electrode toward methanol oxidation in alkaline medium was investigated and found an enhanced mass activity ($534mA/mg_{Pt}$) relative to its controlled experiments. This bio-templated growth of NSs with precise composition could expedite the intention of new alloy materials with tuneable properties and will have efficacy in green energy, catalytic, and energy storage applications.
