Low Frequency Noise and It's Psychological Effects

  • Objective: This entire study has two parts. Study I aimed to develop a psychological assessment scale and the study II aimed to investigate the effects of LFN (low frequency noise) on the psychological responses in humans, using the scale developed in the study I. Background: LFN is known to have a negative impact on the functioning of humans. The negative impact of LFN can be categorized into two major areas of functioning of humans, physiological and psychological areas of functioning. The physiological impact can cause abnormalities in threshold, balancing and/or vestibular system, cardiovascular system and, hormone changes. Psychological functioning includes cognition, communication, mental health, and annoyance. Method: 182 college students participated in the study I in development of a psychological assessment scale and 42 paid volunteers participated in the study II to measure psychological responses. The LFN stimuli consisted of 12 different pure tones and 12 different 1 octave-band white noises and each stimulus had 4 different frequencies and 3 different sounds pressure levels. Results: We developed the psychological assessment scale consisting of 17 items with 3 dimensions of psychological responses (i.e., perceived physical, perceived physiological, and emotional responses). The main findings of LFN on the responses were as follows: 1. Perceived psychological responses showed a linear relation with SPL (sound pressure level), that is the higher the SPL is, the higher the negative psychological responses were. 2. Psychological responses showed quadric relations with SPL in general. 3. More negative responses at 31.5Hz LFN than those of 63 and 125Hz were reported, which is deemed to be caused by perceived vibration by 31.5Hz. 'Perceived vibration' at 31.5Hz than those of other frequencies of LFN is deemed to have amplified the negative psychological response. Consequently there found different effects of low frequency noise with different frequencies and intensity (SPL) on multiple psychological responses. Conclusion: Three dimensions of psychological responses drawn in regard to this study differed from others in the frequencies and SLP of LFN. Negative psychological responses are deemed to be differently affected by the frequency, SPL of the LFN and 'feel vibration' induced by the LFN. Application: The psychological scale from our study can be applied in quantitative psychological measurement of LFN at home or industrial environment. In addition, it can also help design systems to block LFN to provide optimal conditions if used the study outcome, .i.e., the relations between physical and psychological responses of LFN.

  • This study examined replication of the factor structure of the DAPC [Domain-specific Assessment of Psychological Control (Soenens et al., 2006)] in parents of Korean adolescents. Participants included 289 adolescents who responded to DAPC items regarding their parents' psychological control behaviors. Two factors comprising 17 items were identified and labeled as "achievement oriented psychological control", and "separation-anxious psychological control." Confirmatory factor analysis and partial correlation analysis provided evidence for the construct validity of the DAPC through construct reliability, convergent validity and discriminant validity across both sex of parents and adolescents. The psychometric properties indicated that DAPC could be useful in studying parents' psychological control behaviors toward their adolescent children.

  • 공공도서관과 대학도서관을 비롯한 우리나라 문헌정보학계에서는 독서치료에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있고 다양한 독서치료 방법도 적용되고 있다. 하지만 그동안 독서치료 영역에서는 단순하고 획일적인 질문을 사용하여 내담자를 이해하고 진단하는 방법이 주로 사용되어 왔다. 그러므로 독서치료에 적합한 심리평가도구에 대한 개발이 필요한 상황이다. 왜냐하면 독서치료에서 심리평가도구는 프로그램에 대한 효과 검증에 앞서 독서치료사가 치료 대상자를 이해할 수 있는 기본적인 정보원으로서의 역할을 한다. 또한 자료 선정 및 관련 활동을 설계하는 기초가 되는 중요한 도구가 된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 독서치료 효과 측정을 위한 질적 심리평가도구로 활용할 수 있는 면담과 행동평가, 종합평가 보고서 양식을 개발하고, 실제 독서치료 프로그램 장면에 적용한 사례들을 제시하였다.

Effects of Forest Healing Program on Depression, Stress and Cortisol Changes of Cancer Patients

  • Patients diagnosed with cancer face mental problems such as alienation, isolation, anxiety about death and fear, recovering from psychological difficulties. In this study, a forest healing program was provided for cancer patients to recover from psychological stress, depression, social isolation and self-esteem caused by cancer and changes in salivary cortisol through psychological and emotional recovery were measured. From September 19 to November 28, 2017, a forest healing program composed of a total of 10 sessions, two hours per session was provided for 12 cancer patients in the Forest of Taegyo located in Yongin. Psychological tests were performed with Social Adaptation Self-evaluation Scale (SASS), Korean-version Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the collected data were analyzed with the SPSS 18.0. The salivary cortisol level was measured along with the psychological tests and were analyzed by a specialized testing agency. The results of the analysis showed that the pre- and post-assessment score of SASS was 29.17 and 25.92, respectively, and that the pre- and post-assessment score of PSS was 30.50 and 23.92, respectively. The pre- and post-assessment score of BDI was 41.00 and 34.83, respectively, which showed significant differences. In addition, the pre- and post-assessment level of saliva cortisol was 3.13 and 1.68, respectively, showing a significant decrease. In short, the forest healing program was found to be effective in reducing physiological changes caused by social isolation and stress due to the emotional and psychological difficulties that the subjects who were diagnosed with cancer and were recovering from it have. In the future, it will be necessary to develop and implement a forest healing program by conducting a forest healing requirement survey on cancer patients.

맞벌이부부의 부모역할갈등과 심리적 복지 (Parental Role Conflict and Psychological Well-being of Dual-earner Couples)

  • This study were looked for the common patterns of dual-earner couples' parental role conflicts, psychological well-being and the variables that influence their psychological well-being. The data of this study were collected from 265 dual-earner couples, and were analyzed using frequencies, percentage, means, Pearson's correlation, Cronbach's alpha, one-way ANOVA, Duncan test. multiple regression. The major finding are summarized in the following. (1) In general, the wives 'level of parental role conflict was higher than the husbands'. There was no significant differences between husbands and wives in terms of psychological well-being and life, but wives' depression was greater than husbands'. (2) As for the variables that affected parental role conflict, income, the age of the first job satisfaction, work adjustment, parenting satisfaction, parenting participation by the husband, the level of child care expenses, and cognitive assessment of mother employment were found to be significant. (3) For both husbands and wives, psychological well-being was positively related to income, education level, job satisfaction, level of job importance, work adjustment, parenting satisfaction, parenting participation by the husband, cognitive assessment of mother employment. (4) Couples' psychological well-being was influenced by job satisfaction and parental role conflict.

독서 평가도구에 관한 연구 - 독자의 정서적 측면을 중심으로 - (The Study of Reading Assessment Tools from a Psychological Standpoint of Readers)

  • 현재 독서에 대한 관심이 고조되어 있지만, 우리나라 실정에 알맞는 독서 관련 평가도구가 마련되어 있지 않아 이에 대한 소개와 개발이 절실히 요구된다. 여러가지 평가 영역 중에서도 독자를 중심으로 한 정서적 측면의 독서 평가는 학생들을 평생 독서가로 이끌 수 있다는 장점을 가진다. 이에 본 연구에서는 독자의 정서적 측면에 기반한 독서 평가도구를 독서 태도, 독서 흥미, 독서 동기유발 그리고 독서에 대한 자아개념, 이 4가지로 나누어 문헌조사법을 사용하여 소개하였다. 또한 이를 기초로 차후에 독서 평가도구 개발 시 참고할 사항을 밝혀놓았다. 정서적 측면의 독서 평가도구 개발 시에는 스스로를 독자로 어떻게 평가하는지에 대한 항목이 가장 우선시되며, 독자 인근의 인간관계(교사, 학부모 그리고 친구)를 통한 평가 항목이 수반되어야 한다. 이러한 적절한 항목의 설정뿐 아니라 평가도구 실시자를 위한 관리법과 해석 및 활용을 위한 지침서도 함께 제시되어야 할 것이다.

  • 교육분야에서 웹의 활용성에 대한 인식이 크게 증대되고 있는 반면 제대로 된 인터페이스 설계가이드가 없어 개발과정에 많은 어려움이 있다. 가이드라인이 있다 하더라도 일률적이고, 단편적이어서 디자인 개발에 실질적인 도움이 되지 못하는 문제점을 않고 있는 것이 현실이다. 본 연구는 심리적 언어도출을 통한 웹사이트 평가 방법을 개발하여 이것이 설계과정에 가이드라인이 될 수 있는가를 연구하고자 하였다. 먼저 심리적 언어를 도출하여 이를 설계 원리들과의 연관성을 알아 본 후 이렇게 만들어진 분류 체계를 기반으로 평가의 모델을 구축하였다. 그 결과 심리적 언어체계를 바탕으로 한 평가 모델이 실질적인 인터페이스디자인 문제해결에 도움을 준다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 기존의 웹 개발자를 위한 인터페이스 가이드라인은 소프트웨어 개발에 사용되어지는 용어들로 인해 디자이너가 실질적으로 활용하기에 많은 어려움이 따랐지만, 디자이너의 역할이 크게 증대되고 있는 지금 심리적 언어체계의 가이드라인은 이해하기 쉽고, 사전에 문제점을 미리 파악 할 수 있어 졸은 자료로 활용 될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • 동료평가란 학생들이 다른 학생의 글, 발표, 집단 활동과 같은 평가 대상이 될 수 있는 모든 결과물이나 수행 과정에 대해 점수를 매기거나 의견을 제공하는 활동을 가리킨다. 동료평가는 채점부담으로 인해 잘 활용되지 않는 글쓰기 기회를 늘릴 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 평가를 하는 과정을 통해 학습도 향상시킬 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 본 개관 논문에서는, 주요 동료평가 시스템과 동료평가를 사용한 경험적 연구 결과를 소개한 다음, 동료평가 확산의 장애 요인을 살펴보고, 앞으로의 연구에서 해결되어야 할 과제가 논의되었다. 이 논의를 통해 동료평가에 대한 후속 연구가 활성화되고 동료평가가 실제 교육 장면에서 활용되어, 우리나라의 평가와 수업 방법에 큰 변화를 가져오기를 기대해본다.

A Study on Hazard Assessment of Employees in New Buildings

  • In order to evaluate the physical and psychological health effects of air pollutants from new building materials, 100 employees who worked in new buildings were given a general health questionnaire, and the prevalence of their subjective complaints was measured. The collected data were classified according to age, gender, smoking status, profession, working time, sleep time, life style, and length of employment. The results obtained were summarized as follows: The THI lie scale scores were significantly higher among the older respondents. Compared to males, females showed a significantly higher level in the depression itemas well asa tendency toward high ratios of physical and psychological complaints. The smoking group showed higher scores regarding health complaints related to most physical and psychological items. Smokers showed significantly increased respiratory organ complaints compared to nonsmokers. Those with a profession showed significantly higher level of nervousness. The group of those working 7 to 10 hours group showed higher rates of complaints in the multiple subjective symptoms and mouth/anus items than the group working less than 2 hours. Those living an irregular life showed a tendency toward higher rates of complaints for most physical and psychological subjective factors. Those who were satisfied with their environments showed significantly lower scores in the mouth/anus, impulsiveness, mental irritability, depression, and nervousness items. In summary, this study shows that the health complaint scores regarding physical and psychological symptoms tended to be higher among the unsatisfied group, the irregular life group, the group who worked long hours, the elderly, smokers, and females. These results can be used to improve the psychosomatic health status and working environments of employees working in new buildings.

Psychological Assessment of Patients with Iatrogenic Trigeminal Nerve Injury Using Symptom Checklist-90-Revised

  • Purpose: This study aims to assess the psychological characteristics of patients with iatrogenic damage of the trigeminal nerve using Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R). Methods: A total of 22 patients who visited the clinic of Department of Oral Medicine, School of Dentistry, Chosun University were evaluated in the months from December 2012 to December 2014. Patients were included in the study if they presented with reported sensory changes due to iatrogenic trigeminal nerve injury. A total of 37 control group who has no symptoms of pain and sensory change were included in the study. All participants filled out the SCL-90-R instrument to assess psychosocial symptoms. Results: The T-scores of most of the SCL-90-R symptom dimensions were within normal range (less than 55) in the patients and the control group. The patients group showed higher T-scores of SCL-90-R than those of the control group, with statistically significance of somatization, anxiety, psychoticism, and positive symptoms distress. Female patients group had higher Tscores of SCL-90-R than those of male patients group, but there was no statistical difference, except for the positive symptom global index. The chronic patients group showed higher Tscores of SCL-90-R than those of the acute patients group, but there was no statistical difference, except for the Positive symptom global index. Conclusions: According to the psychological assessment of iatrogenic trigeminal nerve injury patients using SCL-90-R, the patients group, as compared to the control group shows a significantly higher score for somatization, anxiety, and psychoticism. Therefore, assessment of psychological state would be considered to treat patients with iatrogenic trigeminal nerve injury.
