  • This study examined the parental experiences of the fathers who reared their children with brain lesions. Since a brain lesion is considered a lifelong disability, children with brain lesions need the medical and social management through their entire life. Due to the lack of specialized caring services and organizations in Korea for such children, their families are forced to take care of them. For this reason, it is necessary to study about the fathers who are rearing the children with brain lesions. For this purpose, four fathers had participated in this study and data were collected through one to one in-depth interviews. Using Giorgi(2004)'s phenomenological research method, the study results were as follows. The substantial themes were "charred heart", "surviving the hardships", "the ruins of life", "attitude against reality", "the unique composition of family life", "children as fate", "father's love." Based on the these analysis results, the implications were suggested to cure the psychological and institutional difficulties and to provide supportive services for the fathers and families who care the children with brain lesions.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of strengths perspective group art therapy on the strength-related perspectives on the stress, depression and impulsivity of male middle school students who smoke. Data were collected from 15 middle school smokers from two middle schools in A city. Among them, 8 experimental groups and 7 other control groups were willing to participate in art therapy. The collected data were analyzed by nonparametric test considering the number of groups was 15. The Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon signed ranks test were performed. As a result, the strength-focused group art therapy program showed stress (z = -2.521, p <.05), depression (z = -2.527, p <.05), impulse (z = -2.371, p < .05). Therefore, it can be found that strengths perspective group art therapy has a positive effect on the psychological well-being of smoking middle school students, and furthermore, it is necessary to study the deep emotional state of smoking middle school students.

  • This study explored how young people with disabilities experience self-determination in their lives. This study employed a grounded theory approach involving 10 undergraduate students with cerebral palsy or physical disabilities, in their early 20's, and individual interviews. The experience relating self-determination of the participants seemed to start with "wanting to do things at their will as they grow up". The participants reported experiencing "yearning to attain self-actualization overcoming disabilities" in the context of "disability-related social limitation", "divided opinions between the participants and their parents", and "limitation in financial and psychological resources". The emerging strategies to attain self-actualization included "active coping", "avoiding confrontation", and "conditional acceptance". Intervening conditions to formation of the strategies included ”challenging spirits towards prejudice about disability", "autonomous tendencies", "taking the most of social support" and "parenting attitudes of their parents". In the process of seeking to attain self-actualization, these participants experienced "self-maturation" and "the sense of guilt towards their parents". The findings emerged from the study was that there are three stages in the process young people went through in self-determination. The stages consist of "perceiving their needs and obstacles for self-determination", "problem solving", and "perceiving their growth". In addition, four self-determination patterns are derived from this data: "breaking through", "multi-strategic", "moderate", and "acceptive". This study suggested some theoretical and prctical implications needed to facilitate self-determination of youth with disabilities.

The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for improving service quality by analyzing the factors influencing service quality of youth training facility workers. Data were collected from 110 youth training facilities in Busan. The results showed that social support, emotional labor and self-efficacy had a static effect on the quality of service. Based on the results of this study, the following suggestions were made. First, in order to enhance social support, it is necessary to strengthen regular networking with other agency workers, interview with middle managers, and counseling. Second, to raise emotional labor, it is necessary to imprint a sense of mission as a youth leader. Psychological and emotional programs should also be developed and implemented. Third, in order to increase the self-efficacy, it is necessary to strengthen the administrative super vision and strengthen related education such as image making.

  • There are few studies on the characteristics of defaulters, though research in this field is needed. The purpose of this study was to find out social, economic and psychological characteristics of defaulters who are married and in their thirties. For this study, an in-depth interview was used. The major findings were as follows. The focus of this study is defaulters who are married, in their thirties, have managed small businesses by themselves or with their spouses and have experienced job fluctuation. There were a lot of reasons for their becoming defaulters. Most of all, a slump in business with the occurrence of individual events caused them to be enrolled as defaulters. The monthly mean income of defaulters was $1,800,000{\sim}5,000,000$ won, yet it was irregular. Moreover, they were dependent upon labor income or business income. The monthly mean expenditure of defaulters was $1,000,000{\sim}2,300,000$ won, which constituted about $26%{\sim}57.5%$ of their monthly mean income. The defaulters needed to budget a number of expenditures such as food and private education. Defaulters had $25,000,000{\sim}128,000,000$ won in debts and $300,000{\sim}3,000,000$ won per month in debt payments. Most of them didn't have any emergency funds, monetary assets or fixed assets. Interestingly, they showed high tendency to use debt and low skill for their money management. Defaulters had short time horizons and were likely to buy something on the spur of the moment.

  • Some Korean men choose to marry a foreigner expecting that marriage will solve all their problems. Therefore, this case study is to provide basic information on how to prevent conflicts in the marriage and how to get used to the marriage life. first, it is apparent that these match-makings between Korean men and married Female Immigrants are commercialized and are based on the two parties' convenience. Second, it is more possible that the issues with the role of husband/wife and the allocation of household labor stem from the cultural differences from international racial differences rather than Korean men are authoritative or patriarchal. It seems that the foreign brides from the third world countries choose to many Korean men with only a single purpose to financially help their parents. While neither willing to share household labor nor providing what is expected to be a wife, they demand financial assists for their parents or choose to get a job at a factory to make money. Third, the husbands expect their wives to learn Korean since there is not much opportunity to learn the wives' language and the culture. Also, the textbooks are rare to find for the languages. Moreover, the husbands do not have the enthusiasm or the ability to team due to age Fourth, the Korean men are rather psychological, financial, social victims than domestic abusers.

Method :This study analyse and review existing data and documents related to traditional Korean medicine and health policy using contents analysis method. To collect the information on outcome measures evaluating the programmes, this study reviewed annual reports for health promotion programmes using traditional Korean medicine(HP-TKM) of Hub public health centers, as pilot public health centers, which have implemented the health promotion programmes collectively. Additionally, the review included research articles, government documents and book chapters on the topics related assessments in health promotion. Results :HP-TKM are stroke prevention education, smoke free program, health promotion according to Four Constitutional Medicine, home visiting treatment, etc. However, there are only a few studies of traditional medicine focused health promotion evaluation strategies. The benefits of health promotion programs using TKM can be categorized as non-health benefit, physiological, psychological and physical effects. To manage and monitor the intervention programmes efficiently, attention should be given to developing relevant and valid outcome measures for evaluating the programmes by government and public health center. Conclusion :Up to now, considering number of researchers, research projects undertaken or published articles and reports, within traditional Korean medicine there is a lack of capacity in research. Thus, government should pay more attention to developing relevant and valid outcome measures for evaluating the programs.

  • According to modified labeling theory, because persons with mental illness internalize the stigma of the public, they anticipate discrimination or rejection by others. Such reactions may have negative effects on both psychological and social functioning. We propose that perceived stigma are central to understanding the poor adjustment of mental patients. This study was conducted by the survey with 377 mental patients in order to discover the pathways by which perceived stigma affected life satisfaction and self-esteem. The major findings of the study were : 1) Perceived stigma has a direct effect on life satisfaction as well as indirect effect through patients' experience of discrimination. 2) Perceived stigma has no direct effect but indirectly affected self-esteem through patients' experience of discrimination and internal attribution of discriminatory situations. Based on these findings, consumer-initiated anti-stigma campaign were discussed.
