Effects of Manual Lymph Drainage on the Activity of Sympathetic Nervous System, Anxiety, Pain, and Pressure Pain Threshold in Subjects with Psychological Stress

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of manual lymph drainage (MLD) on the activity of sympathetic nervous system, anxiety, pain and pressure pain threshold in subjects with psychological stress. Methods: Twenty-nine subjects with psychological stress were randomly assigned to experimental (MLD) and control (rest) groups. This study was performed as a controlled, randomized study using spectral analysis of electrocardiographic (ECG) activities, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Pressure Pain Threshold (PPT). Results: Heart rate variability differed significantly between the experimental and control groups (p<0.05). Anxiety and pain showed positive change in both group but it were not showed statically differences. The pressure pain threshold in the upper trapezius muscle was increased in the experimental group (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings indicate that the application of MLD was effective in reducing the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, anxiety, pain, and increasing the PPT.

인형치료 집단프로그램이 여성 상담자들의 심리적 소진과 자아탄력성에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Group Figure Therapy Programs on Psychological Exhaustion and Ego Resilience of Female Counselors)

  • 본 연구는 인형치료 프로그램이 상담사의 심리적 소진과 자아탄력성에 미치는 효과성을 검증함으로써 인형치료의 활용가능성을 융복합적인 측면에서 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 인형치료 집단프로그램을 근거로 경기지역 2개 지역의 일반상담센터 이용자 11명을 대상으로 상담자의 심리적 소진, 자아탄력성의 변화를 독립표본 t검증과 대응표본 t-검증을 통해 살펴보았다. 그 결과 심리적 소진의 평균값에서 약간 차이가 있었으며, 자아탄력성은 평균값이 상승하였다. 또한 자아탄력성의 하위요인인 자신감과 대인관계 효율성의 평균값이 상승하고 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났다. 이를 바탕으로 상담사의 자아탄력성을 향상시키기 위해 다양한 인형치료 프로그램 개발의 기초자료로 적용될 것이다.

Effects of Forest Therapy on Psychological Improvement in Middle-aged Women in Korea

  • Objectives: Women experience more stress in middle age than in other periods of their lives. Therefore, health management programs that enable middle-aged women to cope with and manage stress are needed. This study investigated the psychological effects of a meditation-focused forest therapy program among 53 middle-aged women living in urban areas in Korea. Methods: Participants were divided into 2 groups: one group underwent the program for 3 days in a forest, followed by 3 days in an urban environment, and the other group underwent the program for 3 days in the urban environment, followed by 3 days in the forest. The psychological effects of the forest therapy program were evaluated using the Profile of Mood States-Brief (POMS-B). Differences in mood state before and after the program conducted in the forest (experimental group) and in the urban environment (control group) were evaluated using the paired-samples t-test. Results: The program in the forest significantly reduced tension, depression, anger, fatigue, and confusion among the domains of the POMS-B. The program in the urban area significantly reduced tension, but not depression, anger, fatigue, or confusion. Conclusions: Meditation-focused forest therapy programs are expected to contribute to promoting psychological health and enhancing the quality of life of middle-aged women.

교통사고로 인한 다발성 외상 환자의 국소진동을 동반한 물리치료 중재가 통증 및 관절운동범위, 심리적 상태에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Physical Therapy Intervention with Local Vibration on Pain, ROM and Psychological Status in Multiple Trauma Patients Caused by Traffic Accident)

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate into the effects of physical therapy intervention with local vibration on pain, ROM (range of motion) and psychological status in multiple trauma patients caused by traffic accident. Methods: A patient with multiple trauma were recruited. Before treatment, he was evaluated using numeric pain rating scale (NPRS), Korean-version impact of event scale-revised (IES-R-K), Beck Depression inventory (BDI), passive and active range of motion, and were reevaluated after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment. Results: As a result of comparing the participant before and after the experiment, the score of the IES-R-K and BDI decreased. And the passive and active ROM increased. Conclusion: According to the results above, physical intervention with local vibration by Blackroll Releazer can help improve pain, physical function and psychological status. Also, physical intervention with Blackroll's Releazer technique was able to select interventions depending on the patient's conditional and the desired goal.

TBRI를 통한 청소년 교육시설 인테리어 테라피 사례 연구 (Interior Therapy Cases Analysis of Youth Educational Facilities through Trust-Based Relational Intervention(TBRI))

  • During adolescence, youths may experience many unexpected changes due to sudden variances. At that time, youths were found to show rebellious or abnormal behaviors due to psychological wounds. These are often caused by psychological wounds oriented at home or at school, which may make some problems in adolescents' self-respect and attachment. In this study, we plan to conduct an analysis of the case of the interior therapy of educational facilities through TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) to discover how psychological therapy for youths is applied to an interior environment. The cases analysis are conducted based on the three principles of TBRI and the twenty seven detailed keywords within each principle. The research method is oriented on the research of literature focusing on TBRI-related external studies and domestic/external studies of interior therapy. The ranges of the case study are studied in six educational facilities retrieved and extracted from the website 'Archdaily' and from the 2019 Journal of the Korean Institute of Educational Facilities. The research article are concluded that TBRI's principles were applied to shape, finish material, color, lighting, furniture layout, plan layout, sculpture, and built-in-furniture by analyzing the interior therapy of educational facilities according to the elements of TBRI.

외상 후 스트레스 장애 증상을 보이는 대학생의 모래놀이치료 사례연구 (A Case Study of Sandplay Therapy in a College Student with Symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)

  • A college student who exhibited several post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms was used as a case study in order to investigate the therapeutic effects of sandplay therapy for PTSD sufferers. In total, 27 sessions of the sandplay treatment program were used to conduct psychological tests before and after the sessions. Any changes in the manner of expressions on the sand box during the treatment, and the results of pre and post psychological tests on aspects of depression, anxiety and interrelationships were analyzed. Overall results showed that the subject exhibited progressive behavioral improvement and signs of recovery. Psychological tests revealed reduced levels of depression and anxiety, and improved interrelationship scores. In conclusion, sandplay therapy does exhibit positive benefits as an effective treatment modality for PTSD in adolescents and young adults.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a functional contextual intervention approach based on the behavioral theory on human language, which views human suffering as originating in psychological inflexibility fostered by cognitive fusion and experiential avoidance. Thus, the goal of ACT is to enhance psychological flexibility using six core processes including acceptance, cognitive defusion, self-as-context, contact with present moment, values clarification, and committed action. Recent clinical trials have suggested the efficacy for ACT in the treatment of various mental illness and psychological distress. The aim of this review is to offer more knowledge and better understanding of ACT by presenting its underlying principle and an overview of the research field.

수부 감염에 대한 물리치료와 작업치료 (Physical therapy and Occupational therapy on the hand infections)

  • The hand is a very specialized organ that functions to obtain information and to execute motor acts essential to human interaction with the environment. Loss of hand function through infections affects the mechanical tasks that the hand performs and psychological adjustments to their disability. Infection is a disastrous complication of hand injuries and adequacy of circulation is of greatest importance to prevention of infection. Careful debridement, incision, and adequate drainage and antibacterial treatment are of great importance. Optimal care of the infected hand demands that carefully surgical care, early postoperative exercises and other therapy. Hand rehabilitation has grown as a specialty area of both physical and occupational therapy. It is essential that the surgeon and therapist work together, and communicate freely-all of which generally require daily contact. Treating the psychological loss suffered by the patient with a hand infections is an integral part of the rehabilitation therapy as well. Treatment techniques, Whether thermal modalities or specifically designed exercises, are used as a bridge to reach a further goal of returning to functional performance.

물리치료학과 학생들의 노인의 신체적, 심리적, 사회적 측면에 대한 지식 조사 (Study on Knowledge of the Elderly's Physical, Psychological and Social Aspects among College Students in Physical Therapy)

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to develop medical services for the elderly and qualitatively enhance physical therapy for them by analyzing korean students' knowledge of the elderly. METHODS: A total of 1027 male/female undergraduate students majoring in physical therapy were selected to examine the knowledge of the elderly. The knowledge of physical, psychological, and social aspects were investigated and measured by FAQ I of palmore (1988) and a scale developed by Yunjin et al. (1982). T-test, One-way-ANOVA and Scheff test were used. RESULTS: The percentage of the students who correctly answered the questions on the elderly was 53.6%. In particular, the higher error rates were seen in the social (56.9%) and psychological (57.6%) aspects compared in the physical (33.7%) aspects. Those who answered the questions correctly were over 30s (63.69%, p=0.000), seniors (57%, p=0.000)and grown in cities (53.91%, p=0.001). In addition, students who took lessons on the elderly (57.71%, p=0.032)and had experiences in voluntary services (54.09%, p=0.023) were significantly higher in answering the questions correctly. CONCLUSION: When students learned about the elderly, social and psychological aspects should be reinforced. The knowledge levels of the elderly can be elevated though voluntary services. It is thought that a follow-up study would be continuously neede to improve physical therapists' knowledge on the elderly and quality of available services.

다문화가정 아동의 심리적 적응을 위한 집단미술치료의 효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Group Art Therapy for Psychological Adaptation of Children within Multicultural Families)

  • 본 연구는 다문화가정 아동이 성장과정에서 필요한 심리적 적응에 집단미술치료가 필요하다고 보며, 집단미술치료를 연구하여 그 효과를 논의하고자 한다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 다문화가정 아동은 미술작업경험과 연구자와의 상호작용을 통해 점차 자유롭게 자신을 표현할 수 있었으며, 자신의 감정과 생각 그리고 내면의 욕구를 미술적 표현을 통해 객관화하고 수용 및 해소하는 경험을 하였다. 둘째, 다문화가정 아동은 능동적인 자기표현, 자발성, 정서표현을 촉진하는 비구조적인 집단미술치료 환경가운데 자신에 대해 새롭게 인식할 수 있었으며, 점차 능동적인 태도 즉, 자발성을 회복하는 경험을 하였다. 셋째, 다문화가정 아동은 집단미술치료 경험의 과정에서 긍정적인 자아개념을 키울 수 있었다. 결론적으로 집단미술치료 프로그램을 적용하여 미술치료가 갖고 있는 고유의 독특한 측면들을 통해 다문화가정 아동의 심리적 적응에 어려움을 경험하고 있는 아동에게 서로 언어만으로는 할 수 없었던 방식으로 이야기를 나누는 장을 마련해 줄 수 있다.
