In 2017, as a study to discover indigenous prokaryotic species in Korea, a total of 6 bacterial strains assigned to the genus Pseudomonas were isolated from soil. From the high 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (${\geq}99.5%$) and phylogenetic analysis with closely related species, the isolated strains were identified as independent Pseudomonas species which were unrecorded in Korea. The six Pseudomonas species were Pseudomonas mandelii, P. canadensis, P. thivervalensis, P. jessenii, P. lurida, and P. brenneri. Gram reaction, culture conditions, colony and cell morphology, basic physiological and biochemical characteristics are described in the species description section.
This study was aimed to investigate the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of Pseudomonas spp. isolated from bovine mastitis milk samples. A total of 50 (4.9%) Pseudomonas spp. was isolated from 1,023 samples, those collected between 2018 and 2021, derived from 110 dairy farms. The prevalence of the identified species of Pseudomonas isolates was as follows; P. aeruginosa (70.0%), P. fluorescens (14.0%), P. putida (10.0%), P. fragi (4.0%), and P. chlororaphis (2.0%). Most of somatic cell counts in the quarter milk carrying Pseudomonas spp. were less than 3,000,000 cell/ml (90.0%). The isolates of Pseudomonas spp. showed high susceptibility to cefepime (98.0%), ciprofloxacin (98.0%), ceftazidime (96.0%), and colistin (96.0%). The rate of antibiotic resistance in the isolates was highest to ceftiofur (92.0%), followed by the resistance rate to chloramphenicol (86.0%) and trimethoprim/sulphamethoxazole (80.0%). In addition, there is a remarkable difference in antimicrobial resistance pattern among Pseudomonas species. P. aeruginosa and P. putida showed a similar resistance pattern, whereas P. fluorescens showed exceptionally lower resistance to trimethoprim/sulphamethoxazole and chloramphenicol than that of the other species. This study showed that prevalence of Pseudomonas spp. other than P. aeruginosa were 30.0% in bovine mastitis milk, and the occurrence rate of antibiotic resistance were similar or higher level, compared with the previous reports on the mastitisderived Pseudomonas spp. isolated in Korea.

Today, the weather is changing continually, due to the progress of global warming. As the weather changes, the habitats of different organisms will change as well. It cannot be predicted whether or not the weather will change with each passing day. In particular, the biological distribution of the areas climate change affects constitutes a major factor in determining the natural state of indigenous plants; additionally, plants are constantly exposed to rhizospheric microorganisms, which are bound to be sensitive to these changes. Interest has grown in the relationship between plants and rhizopheric microorganisms. As a result of this interest we elected to research and experiment further. We researched the dominant changes that occur between plants and rhizospheric organisms due to global warming. First, we used temperature as a variable. We employed four different temperatures and four different sites: room temperature ($27^{\circ}C$), $+2^{\circ}C$, $+4^{\circ}C$, and $+6^{\circ}C$. The four different sites we used were populated by the following species: Pinus deniflora, Pinus koraiensis, Quercus acutissima, and Alnus japonica. We counted colonies of these plants and divided them. Then, using 16S rRNA analysis we identified the microorganisms. In conclusion, we identified the following genera, which were as follows: 10 species of Bacillus, 2 Enterobacter species, 4 Pseudomonas species, 1 Arthrobacter species, 1 Chryseobacterium species, and 1 Rhodococcus species. Among these genera, the dominant species in Pinus deniflora was discovered in the same genus, but a different species dominated at $33^{\circ}C$. Additionally, that of Pinus koraiensis changed in both genus and species which changed into the Chryseobacrterium genus from the Bacilus genus at $33^{\circ}C$.
From the total 121,294 clinical materials submitted to the Department of Laboratory Medicine of "C" hospital from December 1, 2004 to November 30, 2006, 3,408 Pseudomonas spp. were isolated. The isolation frequencies of Pseudomonas spp. were as follows, P. aeruginosa 95.5%, P. putida 2.5%, P. fluorescens 0.8%, along with low frequencies of P. luteola, P. alcaligenes, P. stutzeri, P. oryzihabitants, P. mendocina and unidentified Pseudomonas species. The isolation rates of Pseudomonas spp. according to season and sex were evenly distributed. The isolated frequency of Pseudomonas spp. in male was two times higher than that of in female showing significantly more male patients in surgical areas and more female patients in internal areas (p<0.001). In monthly analysis, Pseudomonas spp. were the most frequently isolated in July (10.4%), but lowest in February (5.6%). Half of Pseudomonas spp. were isolated from sputum (48.2%). In the susceptibility analysis of Pseudomonas spp. by VITEK II AST cards, the Pseudomonas spp showing higher susceptibility against antimicrobial agents were piperacillin/tazobactam (82.7%) in P. aeruginosa; amikacin (84.7%), colistin (83.3%) in P. putida; and amikacin (96.3%), cefepime (87.5%), ceftazidime (87.5%) ciprofloxacin (92.3%), colistin (88.5%) gentamicin (96.2%), isepamicin (96,1%), meropenem (92.3%), netilmicin (96.0%), piperacillin/ tazobactam (95.4%) and tobramycin (92.6%) in P. fluorescens.
Scrippsiella trochoidea is a dinoflagellate responsible for red tide in early spring in southern coastal water. Marine bacteria appear to exert critical roles on the development and decay of phytoplankton bloom in marine ecosystem. It is likely that marine bacteria, Pseudomonas spp., share some metabolic processes with S. trochoidea. To investigate interactions between S. trochoidea and Pseudomonas spp. directly, cysts of S. trochoidea isolated from the bottom mud in Masan Bay have been germinated and cultured. From the S. trochoidea cultured medium, we have isolated Pseudomonas spp., a dominant and cultured. From the S. trochoidea cultured medium, we have isolated Pseudomonas spp., a dominant species. Both of Pseudomonas spp. and S trochoidea have been simultaneously inoculated into the sterilized sea water and cultured to examine the change of fatty acids. The major fatty acids that showed increases in composition during the dispecific culture were $C_{18:0/},{\;}C_{20:5}{\;}and{\;}C_{22:5}$ in S. trochoidea, and in Pseudomonas spp. Especially, $C_{20:5}{\;}and{\;}C_{18:0}$ were increased in S. trochoidea but decreased in Pseudomonas spp. These results strongly suggest that two species share some processes in their fatty acid metabolism.
Poly(3-hydroxybutyric-co-3-hydroxyvaleric) acid(PHB/HV) copolymer synthesis by Pseudomonas sp. HJ from glucose and cosubstrate was investigated. Taxonomic analysis suggested that Pseudomonas sp. HJ was best marched to Pseudomonas picketti having 78.8% similarity. Pseudomonas sp. HJ produced PHB/HV copolymer containing 60.8 mol% HV and 44.9 mol% HV when supplied with hexadecane and propionic acid as a cosubstrate, respectively. The HV composition in PHB/HV copolymer was controlled by varying the concentration of hexadecane and propionic acid. Propionic acid added after 24 hours of incubation was incorporated as the HV monomer in the PHB/HV copolymer up to 49.6 mol%.
In 2015 and 2017, the National Institute of Biological Resources has isolated four unrecorded prokaryotic species designated as R-1-5, R-2-13, R-2-1, and R-1-8 from the peatland soil of Yongneup. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity determined the four strains (R-1-5, R-2-13, R-2-1, R-1-8) were most closely related to Curvibacter lanceolatus (99.93%), Massilia brevitalea (98.7%), Pseudomonas lini (99.54%), and Pseudomonas vancouverensis (99.93%), respectively. The four unrecorded strains belong to the phylum Proteobacteria, in which the genera Curvibacter and Massilia are assigned to the class Betaproteobacteria, and the genus Pseudomonas to the class Gammaproteobacteria. Since there are no publications or official reports on these four strains, these four species are new records to Korea. The strains were further characterized by Gram reaction, colony and cell morphology, basic biochemical properties, and phylogenetic position. Descriptive information of the four unrecorded species is provided.
During an investigation of unrecorded prokaryotic species in Korea, six unrecorded bacterial strains were isolated from soil samples collected from Uljin-gun. Based on a similarity search using the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the isolated strains and the construction of the neighbor-joining phylogenetic tree, five strains were identified to the genus Pseudomonas of the family Pseudomonadaceae, while one strain was identified as a species belonging to the genus Paenibacillus of the family Paenibacillaceae. The details of these unreported species, including gram staining reaction, colony and cell morphology, basic biochemical characteristics, strain ID, and isolation source, are described in the description of the strains.
Pseudomonas is currently causing increasing mortality in farmed olive flounder in Jeju Island. It was previously reported that P. anguilliseptica is the pathogen causing the mortality. It is not known whether other sub-species are involved or not. In this study, P. fluorescens was identified from diseased olive flounder by a PCR-based diagnosis. Based on genomic sequencing and BLAST analysis, 5 out of 6 samples were closer with P. fluorescens than P. anguilliseptica. Our finding suggests that P. fluorescens may be the dominant species causing the disease in farmed olive flounder in Jeju Island, South Korea.
Improvement of water quality and Investigation of bacterial characteristics have been conducted in a pilot plant using biological activated carbon (BAC) in water treatment process at the downstream of the Nakdong River. Most of water control parameters were highly improved after passing through BAC. Approximately 54% of dissolved organic carbon was removed in coal-based BAC process. Bacterial biomass and bacterial production appeared $9.8{\times}10^8 CFU/g and 7.1mg-C/m^3$.hr in coal-based BAC, respectively. Predominant bacteria species grown in BAC were identified as Pseudomonas, Flavobacterium, Alcaligenes, Acinetobacter and Aeromonas species. Particularly Pseudomonas vesicularis was dominant in both coal-based and coconut-based BACs, while Pseudomonas cepacia was dominant in wood-based BAC.
