  • Visible Light Communication is one of the promising technologies for wireless communication due to the possibility to use existing LED lightening infrastructure to transmit data. LED has the ability to turn on and off very fast enough that our human eyes can't recognize so it can be used to transmit data via visible light along with illumination. But it faces flicker problem due to the brightness discrepancies between '1' and '0' bit patterns inside a data frame. Various run length limited (RLL) coding scheme like Manchester code, 4B6B, 8B10B or VPPM can be used to solve flickering problem. So we propose pseudo Manchester codding which can transmit data without modifying LED modulator and demodulator circuit as well as solve flickering problem.

  • The map where so-called 'New Religion' of Korea in the Colonial Era is entangled with 'Religion (Christianity, Buddhism, Shindo)' recognized by the Japanese Government General of Korea and nationalism. Accordingly positive research on how religious ideal and ideology in 'New Religion' in Korea was practically applied and practiced in the society is a crucial task. Meanwhile there is survey data representing the status in the long term from 1860s to early 1930s in regard to 'New Religion' of Korea in the Colonial Era. In other words it is 'Pseudo Religion in Joseon' by Murayama Jijun published in 1935. Most part of them are shown through statistics data. In particular he took a look at the distribution of 'Pseudo Religion', ups and downs of religious influence, faith consciousness, its impact and religious ideological movement and social movement. Therefore, if this statistical data could be utilized through quellenkritik, it is thought to have value of significant reference in research on Korea's 'New Religion'. This paper utilizes many statistics included in the survey data among critical review on recognition in Murayama's 'New Religion in Korea' as basic texts. During the procedure this paper seeks to look at the geology of Korean 'New Religion' and attempts basic consideration in the quantitative term related to trend and ups and downs of the groups. Through this basic research I hope that 'public concern of New Religion' in modern Korea and research on re-establishment will move forward.

  • Multidimensional scaling (MDS) is a graphical technique of multivariate analysis to display dissimilarities among individuals into low-dimensional space. We often have two kinds of MDS which are metric MDS and non-metric MDS. Metric MDS can be applied to quantitative data; however, we need additional information about variables because it only shows relationships among individuals. Gower (1992) proposed a method that can represent variable information using trajectories of the pseudo-points for quantitative variables on the metric MDS space. We will call his method a 'replacement method'. However, the trajectory can not be represented even though metric MDS can be applied to binary data when we apply his method to binary data. Therefore, we propose a method to represent information of binary variables using pseudo-points called a 'partition method'. The proposed method partitions pseudo-points, accounting both the rate of zeroes and ones. Our metric MDS using the proposed partition method can show the relationship between individuals and variables for binary data.

  • This paper proposes methods of estimating lifetime distribution from incomplete field data under parametric regression models. Failure-record data-failure times and covariates-reported to the manufacturer can be seriously incomplete for satisfactory inference since only reported failures are recorded. This paper assumes that within-warranty data are reported with probability $P_1$ ($\leq1$) and after-warranty data are reported with Methods of obtaining pseudo and after-warranty data are reported with $P_2$ (< $P_1$). Methods of obtaining pseudo maximum likelihood estimators(PMLEs) are outlined, their asymptotic properties are studied, and specific formulas for Weibull distribution are obtained. Simulation studies are perfumed to investigate the effects of follow-up percentage on the PMLEs.

  • In order to analyze incompressible two-phase flow, Level Set method was applied on pseudo-compressibility formulation. Level Set function is defined as a signed distance function from the phase interface, and gives the information of the each phase location and the geometric data to the flow. In this study, Level Set function transport equation was coupled with flow conservation equations, and owing to pseudo-compressibility technique we could solve the resultant vector equation iteratively. Two-phase flow analysis code was developed on general curvilinear coordinate, and numerical tests of bubble dynamics and surging wave problems demonstrate its capability successfully.

  • The logarithmic objective function used in waveform inversion minimizes the logarithmic differences between the observed and modeled data. Laplace-domain waveform inversions usually adopt the logarithmic objective function and the diagonal elements of the pseudo-Hessian for optimization. In this case, we apply the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm to prevent the diagonal elements of the pseudo-Hessian from being zero or near-zero values. In this study, we analyzed the diagonal elements of the pseudo-Hessian of the logarithmic objective function and showed that there is no zero or near-zero value in the diagonal elements of the pseudo-Hessian for acoustic waveform inversion in the Laplace domain. Accordingly, we do not need to apply the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm when we regularize the gradient direction using the pseudo-Hessian of the logarithmic objective function. Numerical examples using synthetic and field datasets demonstrate that we can obtain inversion results without applying the Levenberg-Marquardt method.

  • It is generally accepted that self-similar (or fractal) processes may provide better models for teletraffic in modern telecommunication networks than Poisson Processes. If this is not taken into account, it can lead to inaccurate conclusions about performance of telecommunication networks. Thus, an important requirement for conducting simulation studies of telecommunication networks is the ability to generate long synthetic stochastic self-similar sequences. Three generators of pseudo-random self-similar sequences, based on the FFT〔20〕, RMD〔12〕 and SRA methods〔5, 10〕, are compared and analysed in this paper. Properties of these generators were experimentally studied in the sense of their statistical accuracy and times required to produce sequences of a given (long) length. While all three generators show similar levels of accuracy of the output data (in the sense of relative accuracy of the Horst parameter), the RMD- and SRA-based generators appear to be much faster than the generator based on FFT. Our results also show that a robust method for comparative studies of self-similarity in pseudo-random sequences is needed.

  • Debris flow deposition model is a model to predict affected areas by debris flow and random walk model (RWM) was used to build the model. Although the model was proved to be effective in the prediction of affected areas, the model has several free parameters decided experimentally. There are several well-known methods to estimate parameters, however, they cannot be applied directly to the debris flow problem due to the small size of training data. In this paper, a modified neural network, called pseudo sample neural network (PSNN), was proposed to overcome the sample size problem. In the training phase, PSNN uses pseudo samples, which are generated using the existing samples. The pseudo samples smooth the solution space and reduce the probability of falling into a local optimum. As a result, PSNN can estimate parameter more robustly than traditional neural networks do. All of these can be proved through the experiments using artificial and real data sets.

  • Carboxylated multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) have been used as efficient adsorbents for the removal of picric acid from aqueous solutions under stirring and ultrasound conditions. Batch experiments were conducted to study the influence of the different parameters such as pH, amount of adsorbents, contact time and concentration of picric acid on the adsorption process. The kinetic data were fitted with pseudo-first order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich and intra-particle diffusion models. The kinetic studies were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model for both methods. In addition, the adsorption isotherms of picric acid from aqueous solutions on the MWCNTs were investigated using six two-parameter models (Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin, Halsey, Harkins-Jura, Fowler-Guggenheim), four three-parameter models (Redlich-Peterson, Khan, Radke-Prausnitz, and Toth), two four-parameter equations (Fritz-Schlunder and Baudu) and one five-parameter equation (Fritz-Schlunder). Three error analysis methods, correlation coefficient, chi-square test and average relative errors, were applied to determine the best fit isotherm. The error analysis showed that the models with more than two parameters better described the picric acid sorption data compared to the two-parameter models. In particular, the Baudu equation provided the best model for the picric acid sorption data for both methods.

  • The reliability of the product can be improved by making the product less sensitive to noises. Especially, it Is important to make products robust against various noise factors encountered in production and field environments. In this paper, the phenomenon of degradation assumes a simple random coefficient degradation model to present analysis procedures of degradation data for robust experimental design. To alleviate weak points of previous studies, such as Taguchi's, Wasserman's, and pseudo failure time methods, novel techniques for analysis of degradation data using the cross array that regards amount of degradation as a dynamic characteristic for time are proposed. Analysis approach for degradation data using robust experimental design are classified by assumptions on parametric or nonparametric degradation rate(or slope). Also, a simulation study demonstrates the superiority of proposed methods over some previous works.
