디지털제어 DC-DC컨버터로 구성된 계통연계 연료전지발전 시뮬레이션모델 개발 (Development of Simulation Model for Grid-tied Fuel-Cell Power Generation with Digital Controlled DC-DC Converter)

  • This paper proposes a new power conditioning system for the fuel cell power generation, which consists of a ZVS DC-DC converter and 3-phase inverter. The ZVS DC-DC converter with a digital controller boosts the fuel cell voltage of 26-50V up to 400V, and the grid-tie inverter controls the active power delivered to the grid. The operation of proposed power conditioning system was verified through simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software. The feasibility of hardware implementation was verified through experimental works with a laboratory prototype, which was built with 1.2kW PEM fuel-cell stack, 1kW DC-DC converter, and 3kW PWM inverter. The proposed system can be utilized to commercialize an interconnection system for the fuel-cell power generation.

Observer Based Nonlinear State Feedback Control of PEM Fuel Cell Systems

  • In this paper, the observer based nonlinear state feedback controller has been developed to control the pressures of the oxygen and the hydrogen in the PEM(Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cell system. Nonlinear model of the PEM fuel cell system was introduced to study the design problems of the state observer and model based controller. A cascade observer using the filtering technique was used to estimate the pressure derivatives of the cathode and the anode in the system. In order to estimate the pressures of the cathode and the anode, the sliding mode observer was designed by using these pressure derivatives. To estimate the oxygen pressure and the hydrogen pressure in the system, the nonlinear state observer was designed by using the cathode pressure estimates and the anode it. These results will be very useful to design the state feedback controller. The validity of the proposed observers and the controller has been investigated by using the Lyapunov's stability analysis strategy.

  • Recently advanced countries are making every effort to promote the efficiency of electric power production and supply, to deal with the environmental problems, and to develop the new energy. In particular, they are driving forward to develop various technologies for electric power in mid-long term, that are technology for building infrastructure of power transportation, establishing service network for account management using electronic technologies, elevating economic productivity by innovative electronic technologies, control-ling the discharge of global warming gas, using clean efficient energy, and so forth. However, power technology of Korea lagged behind than technology of advanced countries. Also, resources for developing power technology are limited in our country. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the efficiency of R&D investment. For it, our country must compare and analyze with technologies of advanced countries which are taking competitive advantage in the main future energy. Through comparative analysis, limited R&D resources of our country must be concentrated on technologies that can secure competitive advantage from now on.

PEM 연료전지 스택의 동적 시뮬레이션에 관한 연구 (Research on the Dynamic Simulation of the PEM Fuel Cell Stack)

  • 본 논문에서는 PEM(Proton Exchange Membrane) 연료전지 스택의 동적 특성에 관한 시뮬레이션에 대하여 기술한다. 연료전지의 출력은 부하 변동에 따른 가스 압력의 변화와 동작 온도의 변화 등에 민감하게 반응하는 특성을 갖고 있다. 본 논문에서는 부하 변화에 따른 스택 내부 채널의 가스 압력 변화를 계산하고 이를 Nernst 방정식에 적용하여 출력전압의 변동을 계산한 뒤 부하에 따른 손실을 계산하는 방법으로 동적 모델링을 수행하고 이를 이용한 시뮬레이션을 실시하였다. 스택의 각종 파리미터는 실험을 통해 추출되었고, 이를 적용한 Matlab/Simulink 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안된 모델이 연료전지 스택의 정특성 및 동특성을 적절하게 추종함을 확인하였다.

  • In this study paper, a 3[kW] Fuel Cell Generation (FCG)system with Fuel Cell(FC)simulator has been proposed. The developed FC simulator generates the actual voltage and current output characteristics of the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC), so that the overall performance and the dynamics of the proposed system could be effectively examined and tested. In this paper, at first, the system configuration and operational principle of the developed FC simulator has been investigated and the design process of the FCG system is explained in detail. In addition, the validity of the proposed system has been verified by the informative simulation and experimental results.

전기화학적 수소 압축기 기술 (A Review of Electrochemical Hydrogen Compressor Technology)

  • There is growing interest worldwide in a hydrogen economy that uses hydrogen as an energy medium instead of hydrocarbon-based fossil fuels as a way to combat climate change. Since hydrogen has a very low energy density per unit volume at room temperature, hydrogen must be compressed and stored in order to use as an energy carrier. There are mechanical and non-mechanical methods for compressing hydrogen. The mechanical method has disadvantages such as high energy consumption, durability problems of moving parts, hydrogen contamination by lubricants, and noise. Among the non-mechanical compression methods, electrochemical compression consumes less energy and can compress hydrogen with high purity. In this paper, research trends are reviewed, focusing on research papers on electrochemical hydrogen compression technology, and future research directions are suggested.

실리카 화합물을 함유한 PVA/PAM 전해질 막의 제조 및 특성과 직접메탄올 연료전지로의 응용 (Preparation and Characterization of PVA/PAM Electrolyte Membranes Containing Silica Compounds for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Application)

  • 본 연구는 직접메탄을 연료전지에 적용하기 위하여 poly(vinyl alcohol)를 주쇄부로 하여 poly(acrylic acid-co-maleic acid)(PAM)와 [3-(trihydroxysilyl)-1-propanesulfonic acid](THS-PSA)를 도입하여 열 가교된 막을 제조하였다. 제조된 막의 특성화를 평가하기 위하여 FT-IR, 열 중량분석, 함수율, 이온교환용량, 이온전도도, 메탄올 투과도 등의 측정을 실시하여 Nafion 115와 비교하였다. 제조된 막의 이온교환용량은 Nafion 115의 0.91 meq./g membrane보다 향상된 1.6~1.8 meq./g membrane을 얻었다. 또한, 이온전도도의 경우 THS-PSA을 도입하여 Nafion 115($0.024\;S{\cdot}cm^{-1}$)보다 우수한 $0.042{\sim}0.056\;S{\cdot}cm^{-1}$을 얻을 수 있었으며, 가교온도에 의하여 영향을 받는다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 메탄올투과도의 경우 PAM과 THS-PSA의 도입으로 인하여 이온교환용량 및 이온전도도가 증가한 반면에 메탄올투과도는 모든 막의 경우 Nafion 115의 경우보다 높은 메탄올투과도를 나타냄을 확인하였다.

작동 조건에 따른 고온 고분자 전해질 연료전지의 성능 변화에 대한 전산해석 연구 (Numerical Study of Effects of Operating Conditions on the Performance of High Temperature PEMFC)

  • 2차원 전산 해석 모델을 사용하여 고온 고분자 전해질 연료전지의 전산해석을 수행하였다. 해석 모델은 기존의 실험데이터와의 비교를 통해 검증하였으며, 다양한 작동 조건이 연료전지의 성능에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위해 일련의 전산해석을 수행하였다. 본 전산해석의 결과를 통해 교환전류밀도, 이온전도도, 공급유량 및 작동압력이 증가할수록 연료전지의 성능이 향상됨을 확인하였다. 또한, 기체 확산층의 기공율이 높을수록 기체의 확산이 향상되어 연료전지의 성능이 향상되었으며, 양극 기체 확산층의 기공율에 의한 효과가 음극에 비해 더 두드러지게 나타났다.

데칼법을 이용한 연속 제조 공정에서의 고분자 전해질 연료전지용 전극 개발 (Development of a MEA Made by Decal Method in PEM Fuel Cells)

  • Membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have been extensively studied to improve their initial performance as well as their durability and to facilitate the commercialization of fuel cell technology. To improve the MEA performance, particularly at low Pt loadings, many approaches have been made. In the present study, MEA performance improvement was performed by adding $TiO_2$ particles into the catalyst layer of MEA. Most of previous studies have focused on the MEA performance enhancement under low humidity conditions by adding metal oxides into the catalyst layer mainly due to the water keeping ability of those metal oxides particles such as $Al_2O_3$, $SiO_2$ and zeolites. However, this study mainly focused on the improvement of MEA performance under fully humidified normal conditions. In this study, the MEA was prepared by decal method aiming for a continuous MEA fabrication process. The decal process can make very thin and uniform catalyst layer on the surface of electrolyte membrane resulting in very low interfacial resistance between catalyst layer and the membrane surface and uniform electrode structure in the MEA. It was found that the addition of $TiO_2$ particles into the catalyst layer made by decal method can minimize water flooding in the catalyst layer, resulting in the improvement of MEA performance.

PEMFC 고분자막 내구 평가를 위한 Fenton 반응에서 과산화수소 농도 변화에 관한 연구 (Variation of Hydrogen Peroxide Concentration during Fenton Reaction for Test the Membrane Durability of PEMFC)

  • 고분자전해질연료전지(PEMFC)의 고분자막 전기화학적 내구성을 셀 밖에서 평가하는 방법으로 펜톤(Fenton)반응이 많이 이용된다. 본 연구에서는 펜톤 반응에 영향을 주는 인자를 파악하고자 하였다. 반응진행도를 파악하기 위해 펜톤 반응에서는 생성물로서 라디칼을 분석해야 하는데, 라디칼을 분석하기 어려워 반응물인 과산화수소 농도를 분석해 반응진행도를 측정하였다. 온도에 따른 과산화수소 변화속도를 측정해 활성화 에너지를 계산한 결과 180분에서 24.9 kJ/mol 이었다. 펜톤반응 속도는 철이온 농도에 많은 영향을 받았다. $80^{\circ}C$, 200 rpm, $Fe^{2+}$ 80 ppm 조건에서는 1시간동안에도 과산화수소 농도가 20%이상 처음과 차이가 나므로 용액교체를 자주 하는 것이 막열화 속도를 증가시킴을 보였다.
