FPGA-based design and implementation of data acquisition and real-time processing for laser ultrasound propagation

  • Ultrasonic propagation imaging (UPI) has shown great potential for detection of impairments in complex structures and can be used in wide range of non-destructive evaluation and structural health monitoring applications. The software implementation of such algorithms showed a tendency in time-consumption with increment in scan area because the processor shares its resources with a number of programs running at the same time. This issue was addressed by using field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) that is a dedicated processing solution and used for high speed signal processing algorithms. For this purpose, we need an independent and flexible block of logic which can be used with continuously evolvable hardware based on FPGA. In this paper, we developed an FPGA-based ultrasonic propagation imaging system, where FPGA functions for both data acquisition system and real-time ultrasonic signal processing. The developed UPI system using FPGA board provides better cost-effectiveness and resolution than digitizers, and much faster signal processing time than CPU which was tested using basic ultrasonic propagation algorithms such as ultrasonic wave propagation imaging and multi-directional adjacent wave subtraction. Finally, a comparison of results for processing time between a CPU-based UPI system and the novel FPGA-based system were presented to justify the objective of this research.

Wave propagation in functionally graded plates with porosities using various higher-order shear deformation plate theories

  • In this work, various higher-order shear deformation plate theories for wave propagation in functionally graded plates are developed. Due to porosities, possibly occurring inside functionally graded materials (FGMs) during fabrication, it is therefore necessary to consider the wave propagation in plates having porosities in this study. The developed refined plate theories have fewer number of unknowns and equations of motion than the first-order shear deformation theory, but accounts for the transverse shear deformation effects without requiring shear correction factors. The rule of mixture is modified to describe and approximate material properties of the functionally graded plates with porosity phases. The governing equations of the wave propagation in the functionally graded plate are derived by employing the Hamilton's principle. The analytic dispersion relation of the functionally graded plate is obtained by solving an eigenvalue problem. The effects of the volume fraction distributions and porosity volume fraction on wave propagation of functionally graded plate are discussed in detail. The results carried out can be used in the ultrasonic inspection techniques and structural health monitoring.

PCS 시스템 셀설계를 위한 전파예측 모델 (A Propagation Prediction Model for Planning a Cell in the PCS System)

  • 본 논문에서는 전파경로를 해석할 때 기하광학적 영상법과 전파송출법의 단점을 보완하여 계산속도를 향상시킴은 물론 전파의 입사각과 반사각에 따른 전파경로, 진행파의 수평경로 그리고 반사횟수를 동시에 처리 할 수 있는 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 제안 알고리즘을 활용한 전파예측모델을 제안하고, 반복된 반사에 의해 전파가 진행하는 경우, 임의 지점의 전파경로 손실을 쉽게 계산할 수 있다. 마지막으로 광주광역시 광산구 월곡동에 있는 SK텔레콤 전남지사 주변의 실제 도로 상황을 샘플로 취하여 제안 전파예측 모델을 시뮬레이션하여, 일반적인 타당성을 입증하였다.

대기 난류와 열적 블루밍을 겪는 고출력 레이저 빔의 대기 전파 시뮬레이션에 필요한 위상판 개수 분석 (Number of Phase Screens Required for Simulation of a High-energy Laser Beam's Propagation Experiencing Atmospheric Turbulence and Thermal Blooming)

  • 본 연구에서는 킬로와트 급 고출력 레이저의 대기 전파 시뮬레이션에 필요한 위상판의 개수를 분석하였다. 킬로와트 급 레이저가 대기 중에 전파될 때, 주로 대기 난류와 열적 블루밍 효과에 영향을 받는다. 이에 따라 split step 방법을 사용하여 대기의 흡수 및 산란에 의한 손실, 그리고 난류와 열적 블루밍으로 인한 빔의 왜곡 현상을 구현할 때, 위상판의 개수는 시뮬레이션의 정확성 및 소요 시간을 결정짓는 중요한 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 광범위한 대기 난류 조건에서 많은 수의 위상판(예: 150개)을 사용하여 시뮬레이션을 진행하고, 레이저 출력 밀도 2.5×106 W/m2 (50 cm 직경 레이저 빔의 경우 500 kW 출력) 미만의 고출력 레이저 빔 전파 시뮬레이션에 필요한 위상판 개수에 대한 새로운 가이드 라인을 제시한다.

Passive Benign Worm Propagation Modeling with Dynamic Quarantine Defense

  • Worm attacks can greatly distort network performance, and countering infections can exact a heavy toll on economic and technical resources. Worm modeling helps us to better understand the spread and propagation of worms through a network, and combining effective types of mitigation techniques helps prevent and mitigate the effects of worm attacks. In this paper, we propose a mathematical model which combines both dynamic quarantine and passive benign worms. This Passive Worm Dynamic Quarantine (PWDQ) model departs from previous models in that infected hosts will be recovered either by passive benign worms or quarantine measure. Computer simulation shows that the performance of our proposed model is significantly better than existing models, in terms of decreasing the number of infectious hosts and reducing the worm propagation speed.

  • Recently, many studies focus on mixed-mode fatigue-fracture characteristics of characteristics of materials. In order to reveal crack initiation and propagation mechanisms in combined -mode fatigue. This paper investigates the initiation and propagation behavior of the fatigue crack of the STS304 specimens under mixed mode loading conditions. moreover crack arrest and branch phenomena were analyzed with respect to the change do the angle of inclined loading. The relationship between the angle of inclined loading and the angle of branched crack was studied. A greate number of cycles are necessary to initiate a new crack from the initial crack. The direction of the new crack propagation is determined by MTS theory.

  • As the TFT-LCD panels become larger and provide higher resolution, the distributed capacitive and resistive lines induce the propagation delay, reduce the TFT-on time and deteriorate the pixel chargingratio. A number of the compensation methods, like the H-LDC (Horizontal Line Delay Compensation), have been proposed to compensate the propagation delay of the large and high resolution panels [1]. These methods, however, require the comparatively accurate gate propagation delay estimates at each column driver. In this paper, by observing the actual gate and data waveform from 15-inch XGA TFT-LCD panels, we could predict the propagation delay along the row and column line.

  • In multi-axis force sensor, compliance matrices representing structural behaviour of internal sensor bodies play an important role in decoupled sensing and accuracy, Recently, error propagation through compliance matrices has been studied via approximation approach. However the upper bound of measured force error has not been known. In this paper, error propagation in force sensing is analysed in a unified way when both strain measurement error and compliance matrix error exist, and the upper bound of the measured force error is derived exactly(not approximately). The analysis is examined through a numerical example.

용접부 쉐브론노치 형상에 대한 균열전파 특성

  • The high-strength aluminum alloy 7075-T651 was used to observe the fatigue-crack-propagation behavior for the various stress ratios with constant amplitude loading and thus to predict the fatigue life. With a chevron notch in the specimen the fatigue-crack-propagation behavior of through crack was investigated. Crack propagation behavior of through crack in the depth direction and crack growth of weldments were experimentally studied. Base material heat affected zone and weld material were considered in the fracture of weldments. The change of crack-propagation length with respect to several parameters such as stress intensity factor range(ΔK) effective stress intensity factor range(ΔKeff)ration of effective stress intensity factor range(U) stress intensity factor of crack opening point(K op) maximum stress intensity factor(K max) and number of cycles(Nf)was determined. The crack length of through crack of weldments was 2.4mm and the remaining part was a base material. The experiment was accomplished by making the crack propagate near the base material.

제주 서부지역의 이동 전화 주파수대의 전계강도 예측에 관한 연구 (A Study on Field Strength Prediction for the Band of Land Mobile Telephone Systems in Cheju Western Area)

  • The propagation prediction within a cell coverage in land mobile radio service is very important. The propagation loss is presented in a A+B logS110TR form, where both A and B are the parameter as function of the frequency and the antenna height and R is the distance of between base and mobile station. The propagation prediction is Cheju area is not easy, because a great number of peaks are found here and there at the foot of the Hanla Mt. The characteristics of radio propagation in Cheju area are measured for the Seorum transmitter site. The formular of correction which is regard to the configuration of the ground is presented, and the predicted values are compared with the measured one.
