  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between smoking status, stress, self-efficacy for smoking cessation and the health promoting behaviors of students who want to quit smoking. Methods : Data was collected in 2018 from 143 college students (101 males and 42 females) who were enrolled in the health clinic of N university. The average age was 21.95 years. Multiple regression analysis and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used to analyzed the factors affecting health promoting behavior and the correlations between variables. Results : There were statistically significant correlations between stress and the following factors: smoking motivation (r=.323, p<.001), smoking behavior (r=.329, p<.001), and health promoting behaviors (r=-.312, p=.006). There were statistically significant correlations between Self-efficacy for smoking cessation and following factors: smoking motivation (r=-.278, p<.01), smoking behaviors (r=-.313, p<.001), and stress (r=-.324, p<.001). Health promoting behaviors were negatively correlated with smoking motivation (r=-.345, p<.05), smoking behaviors (r=-.312, p<.01), and stress (r=-.265, p<.001). Self-efficacy for smoking cessation was positively correlated with health-promoting behaviors (r=.421, p<.001). Multiple regression analysis revealed that the following factors exert a significant influence on health promoting behaviors: smoking motivation (${\beta}=-.376$, p=.001), smoking behaviors (${\beta}=-.233$, p=.008), stress (${\beta}=-.278$, p=.006), and self-efficacy for smoking cessation (${\beta}=.403$, p=.000). Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that it is important to provide basic data for the development of a program for the health-promoting behaviors of university students who want to quit smoking a smoking cessation clinic at the university health clinic. However, since only some college students were included in the study, there are limitations in generalizing the results.

Method: The subject of this study was 305 elderly person over the age of 60, living in rural and urban, Korea. For the analysis of collected data, descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance and stepwise multiple regression were used for statistical analysis with SPSS statistical program. Results: The average item score for the health promoting lifestyle was 2.46, The higher score on the subscale was nutrition(2.65). The lowest score on the subscale were physical activity(2,36) and stress management(2,36). General characteristics showing statistically significant difference in health promoting lifestyle were age, residential district, live together spouse, education, religion and pocket money in the elderly. • Objectives: This study was conducted to identify health-promoting behaviors and related factors by type of residence between two groups of college students: those who live in dormitories and those who commute from home. Methods: We used the data from 2,287 students (870 male, 1417 female) from 14 colleges in Daegu and Kyungpook areas and compared health-promoting practice scores, general characteristics, health environment, and parental support. Multiple regression analysis was performed with health-promoting practice scores as a dependent variable. Results: Dormitory residents presented significantly lower health-promoting practice scores than commuters in both gender. Multiple regression analysis showed that the factors associated with health-promoting behaviors were health environment (p<0.05) and parental influence/support (p<0.01) for male dormitory residents. For female dormitory residents interest in health(p<0.05), stress(p<0.05), and parental influence/support(p<0.01) were associated. Conclusions: Systematic development of health education programs would be needed for the practice of health promotion behavior of college dormitory students with the help of environmental and institutional support. We suggest a program for stress management, smoking, health behavior, and alcohol and a parental program to increase contact with their children for a positive parental influence and support.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing health promoting lifestyle of teachers and to provide the data for efficient health management of teachers. The subjects of this study were eight hundred nine teachers, who were chosen in Choong-Buk province. Survey Questionaires for data analysis were collected through visiting or mailing from September 1 to 30, 1997. The instruments used in this study were HPLP(Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile) by Walker (1987), Internal Health Locus of Control by Walston et al. (1978), Self Esteem by Rogenberg(1965), Importance of Health by Muhlenkamp (1985), Self Efficacy by Sherer & Maddux(1982), and Family Function by Olson & Schellenberg (1985). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, unpaired t-test, ANOVA, Pearsons correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS/PC(v. 4.01) program. The results were as follows; 1. The mean of health promoting lifestyle was total 2.53 on the average, self-actualization 2.97, nutrition 2.90, interpers 52, stress management 2.33, exercise 1.91, and health responsibility 1.82 in order. The index of total health promoting lifestyle was significantly influenced by the factors including sex, age, religion, marital status, duration of work, teaching load, education level and number of family members. 2. The health promoting Lifestyle was significantly positive correlated with Self Efficacy, Family Function, Importance of Health, Internal Health Locus of Control and Self Esteem. 3. Self Efficacy was the most influential determinant predicting health promoting lifestyle of teachers. Self efficacy, Family Function, Importance of Health, Internal Health Locus of Control and Age explained 42% of the health promoting lifestyle. Based on the above findings, it is suggested to develop nursing intervention to improve Self Efficacy, Importance of Health, Family Function of teachers enhance health promoting lifestyle. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings and to determine factors which significantly influence health promoting lifestyle of teachers.
