As an emphasis has been put on the importance of computational thinking, universities have opened software educational programs as required basic courses.. Therefore this study aimed to examine non-major students' perceptions of programming before and after they had programing education. To this end, this study performed programming education for 15 weeks using the Scratch programming language, and then conducted a questionnaire survey. This study analyzed responses from 214 students. According to the results of the analysis, 74 % of the non-major students had no previous experience with programming, 87% felt that programming was difficult, and 69.7% answered that they did not need programming education. To change these negative perceptions of programming, this study made the following suggestions. First, the professor should clearly convey the needs, purposes, and content of programming education to students prior to class. Second, programming should be designated as an optional course rather than required one. Third, it is necessary to develop content integrated with majors, or educational programs or content connected to getting a job or starting a business.

In this paper, to instruct elementary programming concepts based on flowchart programming for elementary school students, we proposed sensor-based elementary robot programming PBL problems using line-tracer robots. Proposed PBL problems are designed to have various correct-answer algorithms. For this purpose, we present PBL-based robot programming instruction steps. Through applying the proposed sensor-based PBL problems using line-tracer robots, experimental results are analyzed in views of the problem-solving ability and suitability of allocating degrees of difficulties to the proposed elementary robot programming problems.

This paper is designed to examine the effectiveness of Computational Thinking and programming awareness by designing and applying programming classes using Havruta. In the present society, where the Fourth Industrial Revolution was in full swing, the capacity to be equipped has changed, and the education has been changed accordingly. Programming education is logically capable of thinking and improves comprehensive problem solving skills. This direction of programming education allows us to get ideas for solving problems based on computing thoughts and to create our own creative results. However, because they require the grammar of the programming language and many additional abilities, they are not easy for learners, and individual differences in competencies make learning less immersive and interesting. In this paper, to solve the problems of the uniform programming class, this study is designed and applied to the class applying the Jewish traditional teaching method, Havruta's teaching method, to find out the effect of computing thinking and programming perception.

Computer education is moving its focus from skill oriented education to improving students' creativity and problem solving ability. Thus, the importance of programming education is being strengthened. However, programming education was biased to grammar oriented language that has been limits of students' interest. Robot programming is problem solving itself, and by allowing students to directly see the robot which is the output of programming, can help interest and motivate to the students. In fact, it is still observed that the students are facing difficulties due to various kinds of errors during the programming education. Therefore, this study categorizes and analyzes the errors students are facing during robot programming, and based on that, a support tool to help treat errors developed. The developed supporting system for error solving reduces the frequency of errors and provides the set of coding instruction, NXC language and error message in Korean, examples and detailed information for each stage of education, function removing major coding errors, and code sorting and indication of row number. This study also confirmed that the supporting tool is helpful in reducing and solving errors after input.

Lately, as the importance of software and the software education has been emphasized, the studies on ways of teaching programming to elementary students have been actively progressed. However, most of undergraduates as prospective elementary teachers who will be in charge of teaching programming at the elementary schools have a lack of interest in programming education as well as of the understanding of basic programming principles. Therefore, this study investigated how programming education using hands-on robot and scratch affected learning motivation and academic achievement of preliminary teachers. The comparison of results of two programming educations shows that the programming education using hands-on robot revealed statistically significant difference in learning motivation and academic achievement.

Current computer education is moving its focus from using oriented education to improving students' creativity and problem solving ability by computer science education. Robot programming education is becoming a major research issue of computer education in the context of creativity education. One of the mainstream ideas of prior research about robot programming is the effect of robot programming. Another is curriculum development of robot programming. But, the focus of current research is moving toward teaching methods of robot programming. The theme of this research is to use examples in robot programming. Example programs are considered the most useful type of material both by the students and the teachers. Example programs play a important role in learning to program. They work as templates, guidelines, and hints for learners when developing their own programs. In this study, I developed a example-based robot programming support system. Due to the trends of smart learning, I developed this system as a mobile web application.

In this paper, we investigate the effects of programming education using educational programming languages. We select 70 papers which contain 101 individual experimental studies we can estimate the effect size from. The average effect size of the studies is .641, which means that programming education has modest effects on the learners. The average effect size of the learners' cognitive and affective domains are 0.632 and 0.666, respectively. The average effect size by the controlled variables such as school level, experimental periods, and programming languages have no statistically significant difference. The results of our study show that the experimental group receiving programming education, can be expected perform about 23.9% better compared to the control group having received no programming education.

A robot assisted education has advantages to increase the students' flow degree. Especially, when we teach programming with robots we take advantages that the students can easily understand the programs because they are interested in the robots and they can see the movement of the robots. However, it is difficult to teach programming to meet our purposes because the students have reluctances to the robot programming with sensors and they take a lot of time building the robots. Therefore, in this paper I analysed the patterns of the robot programming and propose new robot programming education methods that the students need not to care to the sensors. According to this methods, we can teach the robot programming efficiently because we reduce the time to build and programming the robots.

In this paper I present the teaching strategies and methods of programming education based on the learning style which teachers can apply it to their class on condition that learning style can classify their students' preferences about learning strategies and methods. Recent related researches that prove the differences about student's specific abilities based on their learning styles could never help teachers design and do their teaching of programming in the class. Therefore this study about teaching strategies and methods of programming education will be necessarily. I propose the teaching strategies and methods of programming education based on the learning styles as a results of questionnaire to some professors of computer science education in university. Then, I design and do programming education in the experimental class in order to verify the availability of the proposed teaching strategies and methods. After teaching in class, I evaluate the statistical results of students' achievement test of programming. This study has some restrictions about small number of class and periods of teaching programming, but it will be a good case study about teaching strategies and methods of programming education based on the learning style.

Recently, programming education is being actively performed in education field with development of educational programming language and teaching and learning methods for elementary students. However, programming education have limit to apply to the overall computer science curriculum, because it is performed by more than 5th grade and focused on the utilization of programming tools than problem-solving process. It is necessary to expand the range of students and educational content considered with problem-solving process for encouraging programming education in computer science. In this study, we suggest the easy-to-use programming tool for lower grade(1st grade) and robot programming task based on improvement of student's thinking ability. We use Tangible User Interface(TUI) for elementary student's(1st grade) convenience of programming and developed the robot programming task for improvement of logical thinking. As a result of this experiment, tangible programming tool can be used easily in elementary students(1st grade) and developed robot programming task is effective in improvement of logical thinking.
