  • Organizational personnel must have well-developed interpersonal skills to deal with the different stakeholders and departments, to work at different levels in the hierarchy, and to meet varying performance requirements. Many leadership development and mentoring programs are designed to expose students as well as construction professionals to contemporary leadership techniques and skills. Leadership skills generally separate into three decision-making styles with varying degrees: 1) Autocratic, 2) Participate, and 3) Free-rein. This paper describes the study of leadership styles among 174 construction professionals and addresses the most appropriate leadership style for a project executive and a project manager in relation to compare with the characteristic leadership style and job functions. The study supports the growing importance of leadership skills as a component of managerial functions and provides a benchmark to identify a dominant leadership skill for a specific managerial position.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine middle school teachers' use of technology and problem-based learning (PBL) in their teaching practice. Factors related to teachers' use of technology and PBL are also investigated including: teachers' computer and Internet skills, feelings of preparedness to use the Internet, attitudes toward the use of web resources, pedagogical beliefs, science teaching efficacy, and the use of general teaching strategies. Twenty-seven middle school science, math, and technology teachers participated in the study. Research results describe the participants as slightly proficient in computer and Internet skills, positive toward use of web resources, and neutral on feelings of preparedness toward use of computer and the Internet. Participants also tended toward constructivist pedagogical beliefs and used various teaching strategies. They, however, reported low science teaching efficacy. Teachers' use of computers and the Internet correlated with pedagogical beliefs and feelings of preparedness toward the use of computers and the Internet. The study also found the relationships between the use of PBL and teachers' computer and internet skills, pedagogical beliefs, and the use of general teaching strategies. Also discussed are meaningful implications for teachers' professional development, especially for the programs designed to facilitate the use of web-enhanced PBL.

  • Programs provided by the Korea Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation include Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Korean Advanced Life Support (KALS). However, programs pertinent to dental care are lacking. Since 2015, related organizations have been attempting to develop a Dental Advanced Life Support (DALS) program, which can meet the needs of the dental environment. Generally, for initial management of emergency situations, basic life support is most important. However, emergencies in young children mostly involve breathing. Therefore, physicians who treat pediatric dental patients should learn PALS. It is necessary for the physician to regularly renew training every two years to be able to immediately implement professional skills in emergency situations. In order to manage emergency situations in the pediatric dental clinic, respiratory support is most important. Therefore, mastering professional PALS, which includes respiratory care and core cases, particularly upper airway obstruction and respiratory depression caused by a respiratory control problem, would be highly desirable for a physician who treats pediatric dental patients. Regular training and renewal training every two years is absolutely necessary to be able to immediately implement professional skills in emergency situations.

What is meant by basic skills are the basic abilities of bodyguards for escort indluding physical strength, martial arts, and manipulation of equipment. The equipment in the thesis is confined to guns. The following are the requircments for the training of basic skills; 1, A bodyguard should be careful not to expose any equipment he uses his basic skills so that he does not make others feel uncomfortable. 2. He should be trained to give the safety of the person(s) escorted the first priority. 3. He should have the ability to take care of at least one attacker. 4. He should be trained to be able to evaluate the trend of attacks and keep up with it. Training fo basic skills are divided into three parts-physical training, martial arts and use of equipment. Each part is divided into basic training, applied training, and professional training, which again are integrated in one master training program. Especially, development of equipment which helps to take care of attacker(s) quickly without casualties and learning to use the equipment efficiently will accelerate the improvement of basic skills. The author of the thesis worked for Presidential Security Service for fourteen years and suggests the most efficient, protection-oriented way of training based on his experience.

  • Metacognition means "thinking about one's own thinking". There are generally two aspects of metacognition: i) Reflection - thinking about what we know; and ii) Self-regulation - managing how we go about learning. Developing metacognitive abilities is not simply about becoming reflective learners, but about acquiring specific learning strategies as well. There are several strategies that may be used by teachers to develop metacognitive skills amongst learners. As part of a Professional Development project secondary school mathematics teachers have been developing their knowledge and skills to teach for metacognition. In this paper we analyze two lessons presented by groups of teachers in the project and tease out similarities and differences between the lessons that afford or hinder the development of metacognitive skills of learners.
