Real-time monitoring of net setting and hauling process in fishing operations of Danish seine vessel using ECDIS (ECDIS에 의한 외끌이 기선저인망 어선의 투양망 조업 과정의 실시간 모니터링)

  • This paper describes on the real-time monitoring of net setting and hauling process for fishing operations of Danish seine vessels in the southern waters of Korea as an application of a PC based ECDIS system. Tracking of fishing process was performed for the large scale Danish seine vessel of G/T 90 and 350 PS class using the fishing gear which the length of net, ground rope, head rope and sweep line including warp in both sides were 86m, 104m, 118m and 3,200m, respectively. Tracking information for net setting and hauling process was continuously recorded for 23 fishing operations performed on November and December, 2003. All measurement data, such as trawl position, heading, towing course and past track which was individually time stamped during data acquisition, was processed in real time on the ECDIS and displayed simultaneously on the ENC chart. The results indicated that after the separation of a marker buoy from Danish seiner, the averaged running speed of vessel and the averaged setting period while shooting the seine on the course of diamond shape to surround the fish school in the 23 fishing operations were 8.3 knots and 13.1 minutes, respectively. And with the maker buoy taken on board, the averaged running speed of vessel and the averaged towing period while closing the seine on the straight route was 1.0 knots and 47.0 minutes, respectively. After the closing stage of hand rope, the hand rope was towed by the averaged speed of 2.2 knots during the 13.0 minutes. The average area for route of diamond shape swept by sweep lines of the seine in 23 fishing grounds was $709,951.6m^2$. Further investigation is also planed to provide more quantitative tracking information and to achieve more effective surveillance and control of Danish seine vessels in EEZ fishing grounds.

  • Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Although all-trans retionic acid (ATRA) is the agents for ALP therapy, there are various side effects. For overcome this problem, we need the development of new therapeutic agents for APL. A number of bacteria produce various virulence factors with cytotoxic effects on human cancer cells. To understand the anti-cancer effect of Listeria monocytogenes on APL, we examined alteration of the cell viability, apoptosis and cell cycle arrest of the human promyelocytic leukemia cell line, HL-60 cells. The cell supernatant (LmSup) and the extract of L. monocytogenes (LmE) inhibited the cell viability and induced apoptosis of HL-60 cells. These cytotoxic effect of LmSup and LmE mediated by modulation of cell cycle and ROS production. These results indicate that released or included bacterial molecules from L. monocytogenes have a cytotoxicity in HL-60 cells. Therefore, LmSup and LmE may be used as the potential target for the treatment of cancer induced by HL-60 cells.

  • In the past, the elements that determine the movie performance were directors, movie stars, the number of opening screens, on-line ratings or distributing agencies. However, the word-of-mouth effect has changed this trends. So the influence of word of mouth grows more and more strong at this stage of the Internet and smart phones being widely prevalent. I fix my sight upon SNS which is one of the medium of arousing the word-of-mouth effect, and I have a purpose to cast light upon a real example of the influence of SNS on the movie performance. The way is to analyze SNS activities that accompany the process of production and showing of , which is said to have had an beneficial effect of SNS among the enormously successful movies last year. It is relevant to provide a new milestone regarding the movie performance through the successful case of SNS activities by examining the word-of-mouth activities through SNS in the manner of the period division of the pre-release, the early stage of release and the maturity.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the status of occupational health management and the degree of recognition about the occupational health management of employees 248 small-scale enterprises which have been managed by the small-scale enterprises health care management support institution in 1999, were selected for study, in Kwang-Ju City. 98 employees were selected in 116 industries of them to grasp recognition of employees about the occupational health management. ► The Status of Occupational Health Management 1. Of the sample industries, 62.1 percent employed eleven to twenty-nine workers. Of the sample workers, 72.1 percent occupied workers who were engaged in the production line. 2. Environment evaluation was made on 82.7 percent of the sample industries and general exam made on 66.5 percent and specific health exam done on 73.4 percent. 3. The harmful factors in the sample industries were found to lie noise, dust, solvent, heavy metal, etc. 4. In general health exam 1,774 workers were participated and 148 workers got the result of above grade C and were diagnosed as having the problems with digestive system (63.6%), circulatory system(20.6%). etc. ► The Degree of Recognition about The Occupational Health Management of Employees. 1. Respondents were mainly in the twenties (42.9%), males(69.1%), duration of working period of five to ten years(24.0%), office workers(51.0%), monthly income under one million(55.7%). 2. Recognition of employees about the occupational health management consists of workplace environmental evaluation, health education, health exam and protector management. Their recognition on health education showed high score (mean 3.1), but generally the score was low(mean 2.9).

  • Idiopathic interstitial pneumonia is a group of lung disease classified by clinical, radiological and pathologic findings. Steroid is described in many reports as an effective treatment for the idiopathic interstitial pneumonitis. For the treatment of steroid non-responders, immuno-suppressive or cytotoxic agents are used as second line drug of choice. We experienced a case of nonspecific interstitial pneumonitis who was treated initially with glucocorticoid and antibiotics without effects, but later did respond to cyclosporin treatment. This 63 year-old patient was admitted due to dyspnea, cough, and sputum production. He was started on glucocorticoid and antibiotics after he was diagnosed as having nonspecific interstitial pneumonitis by open lung biopsy. The initial steroid treatment was not effective, however, after cyclosprin treatment, the patient showed clinical and radiologic improvements.

Evaluation of Electrical Characteristics of Metal Oxide Varistors for Surge Arresters (초고압용 피뢰기 산화아연소자의 전기적 특성 평가)

  • This paper presents the electrical characteristics of metal oxide varistors for lightning surge arresters. ZnO varistors were fabricated with typical ceramic production methods and two types of varistors were also prepared to be compared. The nominal discharge current and line discharge class of those varistors are $10kA(8/20{\mu}s)$ and class 3, respectively. The diameter of varistors manufactured and prepared were in the range of 61.6~65.0mm and the thickness of those were in the range of 27~42.52mm. The reference and residual voltage were tested and reference and residual voltage per 1mm and the ratio of reference and residual voltage were calculated. The reference voltage per 1mm of varistors manufactured was about 175V/mm but that of A's and B's varistors was nearly 200V/mm. The residual voltage exhibited the same trends as the reference voltage, so the reference and residual voltage per 1mm of domestic varistors should be increased. According to the results of tests, it is thought that if the reference and residual voltage per 1mm were increased to 200V/mm and 330V/mm, domestic ZnO varistors would be possible to apply to the station class arresters in the near future.

Comparative analysis on immune response of combination with Astragali Radix and Cinnamomi Cortex (황기 육계의 배합에 따른 면역활성 비교)

  • Objective : Astragali Radix (AR) and Cinnamomi Cortex (CC) are used to enhance immune response in Asian traditional medicine. Immuno-potentiation of the combination of AR and CC were evaluated on the cellular and humoral immune response using murine macrophage cell line (RAW 264.7) and OVA-immunized mice. Methods : This study was designed to investigate the immuno-potentiative effects of AR, CC, and AR with CC on nitric oxide synthesis in RAW 264.7 cells and proliferation and production levels of Intereukin-2 (IL-2) in mouse splenocytes. In addition, we evaluated the plasma-specific antibody responses and splenocyte proliferation on ovalbumin (OVA)-immunized mice treated with herbal extracts. Results : Combination treatment with AR and CC increased nitric oxide synthesis in RAW 264.7 cells and IL-2 level in splenocytes (p<0.001). Combination of AR and CC significantly enhanced the Concanavalin A- (Con A ; T cell mitogen) and lipopolysaccharide-(LPS ; B cell mitogen) induced splenocyte proliferation on the OVA-immunized mice. Combination of AR and CC also significantly enhanced plasma levels of OVA-specific IgG (p<0.01), IgG1 (p<0.05) and total IgM (p<0.01) compared with the OVA-immunized control group. Conclusion : These results suggest that combination of AR and CC could be used as therapeutic profile on activation of immune response.

The anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory Activites of Changchulgeumryeontang Extract (창출금련탕(蒼朮芩連湯) 추출물의 항산화 및 항염증 활성에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : This study investigated the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of Changchulgeumryeontang (CCGRT) extract. Methods : The macrophage cell line RAW 264.7 cells were used and MTT assay was performed to measure the cell viabilities at the various concentrations of CCGRT ($25-200{\mu}g/m{\ell}$). Nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin $E_2$ ($PGE_2$) were measured in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Expressions of iNOS, $NF-{\kappa}B$, $IL-1{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$ and IL-6 were also performed by real-time PCR. The anti-oxidant activities of CCGRT was measured by DPPH radical scavenging activity. Results : 1. there was no cytotoxicity in RAW264.7 cells treated with CCGRT compared to the control. 2. CCGRT treated group significantly inhibited NO and $PGE_2$ production compared to the LPS treated group. 3. CCGRT treated group significantly decreased mRNA expressions of iNOS, $NF-{\kappa}B$, $IL-1{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$ and IL-6 compared to the LPS treated group. 4. CCGTR was found to have high DPPH free radical scavenging ability. Conclusions : According to the above results, CCGRT may be a potentional choice for the treatment of inflammatory skin disease.   • The flatness of a silicon wafer concerned with ULSI chip is one of the most critical parameters ensuring high yield of wafers. That is necessary to constitute the circuit with high quality for he surface of silicon wafer, which comes to be base to make the direct circuit of the semiconductor, Flatness, therefore, is the most important factor to guarantee it wafer with high quality. The process of polishing is one of the most crucial production line among 10 processing stages to change the rough surface into the flatnees with best quality. Currently at this process, it is general for an engineer in charge to observe, judge and control the model of wafer from the monitor of measuring equipment with his/her own eyes to enhance the degree of flatness. This, however, is quite a troublesome job for someone has to check of process by one's physical experience. The purpose of this study is to approach the model of wafer with digital contents and to apply the result of the research for an algorithm which enables to control the polishing process by means of measuring the degree of flatness automatically, not by person, but by system. In addition, this paper shows that this algorithm proposed for the whole wafer flatness enables to draw an estimated algorithm which is for the thickness of sites to measure the degree of flatness for each site of wafer.

The Effect of Additive Co on the Magnetic Properties of Fe3B/Nd2Fe14B Magnets

  • The addition of Co into $Nd_4Fe_{77.5-x}Co_x(HfGa)_yB_{18.5}(0$\leq$x$\leq$5, y=0, 0.5)4 was found to enhance the magnetic properties of $Fe_3B/Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ nanocomposite magnets. The enhancement resulted from the fact that Co retarded the crystallization of $\alpha$-Fe or Fe3B but accelerated that $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$. The decreased interval between the onset of crystallization temperature of Fe3B and $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$. phases enabled the grain growth of each phase to be uniform dufing a post annealing of the melt spun ribbons. The addition of 3~5 at. % Co into ternary composition $Md_4Fe_{77.5}B_{18.5}$ increased the coercivity (iHc) from 3.27 to 3.54 kOe with the enhanced remanence value (4$\pi$Mr) around 11.54 kG. From the ribbon magnets of Nd4Fe71.5Co5Hf0.5B18.5 made at 26 m/sec and annealed at 68$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 min, the magnetic properties of Br=11.54 kG, iHc=3.54 kOe, and (BH)max=14.35 MGOe were obtained from volume production line.
