  • Aquaculture pollution is a major concern among the entrepreneurs, farmers and researchers. Excess discharge of phosphorus and nitrogen into the water bodies is the principal pollutant responsible for this. Plant-based feed ingredients due to its high phytic acid content enhances both nitrogen and phosphorus discharge thereby increasing the pollution level. Dietary phytase treatment is probably the best answer to address this problem. This review explains the nature and properties of phytate, its interactions with other nutrients and the application of phytase in aquafeed to reduce the pollution. This review also covers the different biotechnological aspects for lowering the phytic acid level in the common aquafeed ingredients, as an alternate approach to controlling the pollution level. Some of future research needs have also been highlighted to attract the attention of more researchers to this area.

  • This study was designed to explore the effects of marbling on meat quality characteristics and intramuscular connective tissue of beef longissimus muscle. Chemical determinations, histological and mechanical measurements were performed on the raw and cooked meat at d 4 postmortem. The results showed that crude fat, collagen, fiber diameter and maximum transition temperature of intramuscular connective tissue increased (p<0.05) with the increase of marbling score. The cooking losses, collagen solubility, WBSF and perimysial thickness decreased (p<0.05) with the increasing marbling. WBSF correlated (p<0.05) with moisture, crude fat, collagen, cooking losses, sarcomere length and perimysial thickness. The development of marbling results in the decline in cooking losses, the avoidance of sarcomere shortening, and the disorganization of the perimysia, which accounts for the improvement of beef tenderness.

  • The Purpose of this study is to analyze the contribution of the total human capital formation to economic growth in Korea. In order to assess the contribution of the total human capital formation to economic growth, aggregate production functions are estimated using two ways of ordinary least squares and polynomial distributed lags based on 1955 - 1988 time series data in Korea. The total amount of investment in human capital is calculated by adding each amount of investment in formal education, vocational training, inter-provincial migration, and health in pecuniary terms. The findings of this study could be summarized as follows ; (1) If we enumerate the variables in good order according to the importance, we get the following ; namely, total number of labor force, inter-provincial migration, vocational training, health, physical capital, and formal education. (2) The contribution of the human capital to economic growth is much more larger than that of physical capital. In particular, it appears that inter-provincial migration and vocational training make a great contribution to economic growth. (3) It appears that investment in formal education has a continuous effect for fifteen years and maximum effect is observed approximately eight years later. In the case of vocational training, the effect of investment lasts for about 12-14 years and its effect on economic growth reaches maximum with the passage of seven to eight years after initial investment. (4) Investment in vocational training contributes more in the long run compared with investment in formal education. The effect of investment in formal education lasts longer than that of vocational training, while the effect of investment in vocational training is considerably larger in the short run compared with the investment in formal education.

  • In this study we demonstrated whether the extract of Polygonum aviculare L. (PAE) can be applied to the immune-stimulating responses in macrophages (Raw 264.7 cells). Cell viability was determined by WST-8 assay, and all four doses of PAE (5, 10, 20, and 40 ${\mu}g/ml$) had no significant cytotoxicity during the entire experimental period. PAE increased the production of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and nitric oxide (NO), and mRNA expressions and protein levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines(tumor necrotic factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$, interleukin (IL)-$1{\beta}$ and IL-6) in the same cells. These immune-stimulating activities of PAE were found to be caused by the stimulation of $NF{\kappa}B$ signal and phosphorylation of MAP kinases (p38, ERK and JNK).

  • This study is designed to shed light on the current status of school health education in Korea and identify its problems. The findings of this study among other things pointed out that health education should be awarded the status on an independent subject in a bid to activate school health education and cope with its problems. Thus for efforts focused on the needs for establishing health education as an independent course as well as for enhancing the awareness of its importance. At this stage further efforts are needed to develop in-depth discussions and add greater variety to the curriculum. Firstly efforts should be made to recognize the health status of students at all levels, i.d., from kindergarten through university. Particulary at this stage when the entire society is going through changes in the types of health problems and disease pattern, the outcome of analyses on the types of health problems and health-related behavior can be used as basic data for framing the contents of school health education. Secondly more active efforts are required to single out the contents of health education and develop health education curricula assessment based on the findings of surveys on that of health education needs. Thirdly the development of school health education curriculum should be accompanied by that of more effective educational methods and materials. In particular, further efforts should be made to develop educational methods designed to make wider use of audio-visual equipments or apply behavior modification techniques so that school health education will be adapted to changed educational environment and the characteristics of health education. Fourthly and most importantly the training and production competent health education teachers is needed. This should be preceded by the amendment of relevant laws and administrative systems.

  • In the 4th industrial revolution, the maker movement is spreading around the world with the fusion of advanced technology with product manufacturing. Already in developed countries such as the US and Japan, the emphasis is on maker education that integrates education into traditional makers' movement. Through this, we are fostering young talents who will lead the fourth industrial revolution era. Domestic maker education is mainly performed in the maker space, and is limited to the IT field using Arduino and App-Inventor. Therefore, it has the limitation of fostering IT-oriented makers. Therefore, it is affecting the proliferation of the maker's movement because of the difficulty of participation of the general public. The purpose of this study was to understand the characteristics of maker 's movement and to suggest the direction of Korean maker education. In order to accomplish the purpose of research, we analyzed the case of convergent maker education at D Creation Economic Innovation Center, which combines IT and culture technology. We conducted a case study on maker education(VR production project, electronic publishing, beads craft, leather craft, IoT) which was held from July 8 to August 30, 2017 five times. We conducted interviews with five preliminary makers who participated in all the courses of the education, and five instructors who acted as professional makers with pre- developed questionnaires. The results of the study were derived by applying the Thematic Analysis method after opening the contents of the interview. Based on the results of the study, we could suggest characteristics of Korean makers and future direction of maker education.
