  • This paper deals with a problem on the selection of alternative tools in a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) where a lot of tools are required to produce a large variety of product items. An approach using branch and bound method is proposed to minimize a total number of tools required through the optimal use of the alternative tools. In this approach, tools are initially divided into tool subgroups based on graph theory for the purpose of the effective search of the optimal solution. A small example is also presented to highlight the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • A two-dimensional warranty policy, two types of warranty criteria, such as the age and mileage of an automobile, are employed simultaneously to determine the eligibility of a warranty claim. We deal with the analysis of a variety of combined two-dimensional free replacement warranty(FRW) and pro-rata replacement warranty(PRW). In this paper we also propose the analysis of policies with item failures modelled using the one-dimensional and two-dimensional approach, respectively. We obtain expressions for the expected warranty costs and illustrate through numerical examples.

  • This paper is to appraise the effect of factory noise to work performance and quality. Stamp printing, which are decomposed into work element is used to compare with work performance according to the change of noise, and quality is studied to analyse the effect of product. The noise in experiment is the noise of rotary press, and is used a variety of change.

  • There are several ways to test the equality of two survival distributions under a variety of situations. Tests for equality of two distributions with life-table model for univariate independent response times are reviewed and introduced. It is developed that the methodology to test it for correlated response times where treatments are applied to different independent sets of cohorts. Data, which can be separated into two independent sets, from an angioplasty study where more than one procedure is performed on some patients are used to illustrate this methodology.

  • Because of the ever increasing demands of consumers for a greater choice of product models, manufacturers are forced to produce a wider variety of models. Therefore, more and more assembly lines are being converted to handle the larger number. As the complexity in achieving an efficient mixed model assembly line is related to the degree of likeness between models on the line. To measure likeness between two or more models an method was developed in this study, which is based on the association of work element and their processing times on each model for mixed model assembly line.

  • Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of neopentyloxysulfonylphenyl bromides with arylboronic acids provided a variety of neopentyl biphenylsulfonates in good yields. 2-Bromo- and 4-bromobenzenesulfonates underwent the coupling reaction more rapidly than 3-bromobenzenesulfonate, while chlorobenzenesulfonate did not produce the coupling product under the standard reaction conditions.

  • Flavonoids are well-known anti-inflammatory agents that exert their effects via a variety of mechanisms including antioxidative action, inhibition of eicosanoid metabolizing enzymes and regulation of theexpression of proinflammatory molecules. In this review, synthetic approaches to obtain more useful flavonoid derivatives are summarized. Human clinical trials of flavonoid therapy are discussed. Through continual investigation to identify more potent and comparable flavonoids, new anti-inflammatory flavonoid therapy will be successfully launched, especially for the treatment of chronic inflammatory disorders.

  • The purpose of this study is to supply basic marketing information and establish effective marketing strategy of internet retail stores, by analyzing internet shopper's perception and complaining behavior. To accomplish this study objective, 172 individuals were selected and surveyed with questionnaire method. The result of empirical analysis is summarized as follows. There were significant differences between consumer types and consumer's perception of internet shopping for price, variety of product, fitness, interest, return policy. And there were statistically significant differences in the types of complaining behavior by consumer types.

  • In recent years, olefin cross-metathesis (CM) has emerged as a powerful and convenient synthetic technique in organic chemistry; however, as a general synthetic method, CM has been limited by the lack of predictability in product selectivity and stereoselectivity. A number of excellent studies have recently appeared in the literature which have shown that with the correct catalyst and reaction conditions CM can be used to access a variety of di-and trisubstituted olefinic products in moderate to high yield with good E/Z ratios. • When developing a product, ensuring the quality and reliability is essential. Reliability process is always underestimated compared to its importance, especially in the field of domestic medical devices. In this paper, reliability process developed for near-infrared solid microscope, based on a variety of existing practices and other product process. The following findings were obtained as research progressed. First, learning about the medical equipment needed to assure the quality and reliability standards. Second, reliability process established to design a product in the field of medical devices.
