This paper deals with optimum PI controller design using genetic algorithm to improve control performance and robustness for an oil cooler system. The optimum PI gain was found to minimize an object function, integrated absolute error, and to satisfy control design specifications such as overshoot and settling time based on practical transfer function of the oil cooler system. The control performance and robustness were investigated by comparing indicial responses and Bode diagram analysis with respect to three kinds of PI gains obtained from different gain decision manners. Moreover, the robustness against to input disturbances, sinusoidal wave form and abrupt single pulse, was evaluated. The computer simulation results showed that the suggested optimum gain can establish desirable control performance and strong robustness with easy design process.
Pediatric dysphagia comes from disturbances in swallowing process, which has 'preparatory phase', 'oral phase', 'pharyngeal phase', and 'esophageal phase', and mainly the causes are neuro-muscular discoor-dination. It is necessary to recognize clinical manifestation if they have accompanied organic disorder and diagnose accurately. Videofluoroscopic study evaluation is a valuable method to find out abnormal swallowing mechanism at each phases. Treatment should be diagnosis specific, and multidisciplinary team approach is desirable. We can use various behavioral techniques to facilitate normal swallowing mechanism including conditioning of oral and pharyngeal structures, bolus manipulation, postural compensation, and adaptive feeding utensils. Important point is that the diagnosis and treatment for pediatric dysphagia should not be delayed because children are under development.

It is the purpose of this paper to make a preliminary study on the use of repetitive control to improve velocity accuracy by eliminating repetitive disturbances caused by machining inaccuracies of the axis of rotation location. If the control system can be intelligent enough to compensate for such machining errors, then one may be able to improve the accuracy of the velocity control, or alternatively, one may maintain the same accuracy and relax the machining tolerances required. This could decrease cost significantly. Experiments are performed testing repetitive control methods on a constant speed rolling operation testbed. The experimental results show very substantial decreases in the tracking error of the system. Spectral data of the output motion are given to demonstrate the attenuation of the disturbance frequencies and harmonics, related to the bandwidth being used. It is seen that the simplest form of repetitive control which is very easily implemented, can produce striking improvement in control system performance in such belt drive rolling operations, and the learning can be accomplished in a short time.
The new controller developed here, which is the facility with only one measurement, is a new concept for the level controller of the existing nuclear steam generator. A MACS (Microcomputer-based Adaptive Control System of a Steam Generator) is quite practical and efficient, and has also simple structure and higher flexibility in the installment for actual plant. A key ingredient of this system is adaptive regulator which can calculate adaptive, optimal valve position in response to changes in the dynamics of the process and the disturbances. In spite of many difficulties in the steam generator water level control at low power, it can be concluded from the experimental and simulation results, that the MACS can provide optimal, robust steam generator level control from zero to full power. The amount of the control input effort can be reduced by adjusting the weighting factor. However, the steady state water level errors are generated. To avoid the steady errors, the different adaptive algorithm should be investigated in the future. The 3 second sampling time is acceptable for this system. However, action should be taken to shorten the sampling time for better digital control.

The abjective of the study is the development of the system for effective prediction of residual stresses using the backpropagation algorithm from the neural network. To achieve this goal, the series experiment were carried out and measured the residual stresses using the sectional method. Using the experimental results, the optional control algorithms using a neural network should be developed in order to reduce the effect of the external disturbances on during GMA welding processes. Then the results obtained from this study were compared between the measured and calculated results, the neural network based on backpropagation algorithm might be controlled weld quality. This system can not only help to understand the interaction between the process parameters and residual stress, but also improve the quantity control for welded structures.
Aspects of classical information theory, such as rate distortion theory, investigate how to encode and decode information from an independently identically distributed source so that the asymptotic distortion rate between the source and its quantized representation is minimized. However, in most natural dynamics, the source state is highly corrupted by disturbances, and the measurement contains the noise. In recent coder-estimator sequence is developed for state estimation problem based on observations transmitted with finite communication capacity constraints. Unlike classical estimation problems where the observation is a continuous process corrupted by additive noises, the condition is that the observations must be coded and transmitted over a digital communication channel with finite capacity. However, coder-estimator sequence does not provide such a quantitative analysis as a variance for estimation error. In this paper, under the assumption that the estimation error is Gaussian distribution, a variance for coder-estimation sequence is proposed and its fitness is evaluated through simulations with a simple example.

Hop cones (Humuli Strobili) are the female inflorescences of hop plants (Humulus lupulus L.) belonging to the family Cannabaceae. They have been used as herbal remedies to treat mood and sleep disturbances, and mainly to add as a bittering ingredient in brewing process. Considerable interests on pharmacological and biological activities of hop cones have been focused on their major constituents, namely, phloroglucinols (humulone, lupulone), terpenes (myrcene, humulene), and prenylated flavonoids (xanthohumol, isoxanthohumol, 6-prenylnaringenin, and 8-prenylnaringenin). The present review describes and discusses biological activity profiles of these major compounds in the hop cones.
Methods for measuring surface roughness based on light reflectivity have advantages over methods based on light interference or diffraction, especially in in-situ, on-the-machine and in-process applications. However, measurement inconsistencies caused by changes in the specimen are still a drawback for field applications. In this study, we propose a new feedback-based algorithm to enhance the consistency against changes in the specimen. The algorithm is deduced from simulations based on light reflectance theory with typical modeled surfaces. The proposed method is similar to a digital controller and regulates the power of reflected light. Experiments varying heights and materials, verified the improvements in robustness of the method against measurement disturbances caused by specimen changes.

In this study, the optimal dynamic absorbing system for the gas operated HIF (high implusive force) device has been investigated. For this purpose, firstly, the dynamic behavior of human body induced by impulsive disturbances has been analyzed through a series of experimental works using the devised test setup. The characteristics of linear impulse has been compared under some conditions of support system. In order to design the optimal dynamic absorbing system, the parameter optimization process has been performed based on the simplified isolation system model under constraints of moving displacement and transmitted force. Finally, the performance of the designed dynamic absorbing system has been evaluated by simulation in the actual operating condition.
Design of controller of nonlinear systems is an important part of control research. In this paper, a controller for nonlinear plants using a neural network is presented. The controller is a combination of an approximate PID controller and a neural network controller. The PID controller be used for stabilizing the process and for compensating for possible disturbances, a neural network act as feedforward controller. In this method, a RBF neural network is trained and the system has a stable performance for the inputs it has been trained for. Simulation results show that it is very effective and can realize a satisfactory control of the nonlinear system and meets the demands of the system.
