Process Optimization for Flexible Printed Circuit Board Assembly Manufacturing

  • A number of surface mount technology (SMT) process variables including land design are considered for minimizing tombstone defect in flexible printed circuit assembly in high volume manufacturing. As SMT chip components have been reduced over the past years with their weights in milligrams, the torque that once helped self-centering of chips, gears to tombstone defects. In this paper, we have investigated the correlation of the assembly process variables with respect to the tombstone defect by employing statistically designed experiment. After the statistical analysis is performed, we have setup hypotheses for the root causes of tombstone defect and derived main effects and interactions of the process parameters affecting the hypothesis. Based on the designed experiments, statistical analysis was performed to investigate significant process variable for the purpose of process control in flexible printed circuit manufacturing area. Finally, we provide beneficial suggestions for find-pitch PCB design, screen printing process, chip-mounting process, and reflow process to minimize the tombstone defects.

A Study on the Representation Process of Architectural Design Concepts considering Regional Characteristics (지역특성을 고려한 건축 디자인 개념 표현 과정)

  • It was the purpose of this study that propose architectural design process through analysis of concepts considering regional characteristics. The procedure of this study was as follows : First, classifying design process through investigating paper-survey and case studies. And We would investigate representation process of design concepts applied to design competitions entries. Finally, we would investigate design process applied to buildings in various districts. In the results, we could find that domestic architects were applying to site plan, floor plan, elevation plan, section plan and mass plan-led design process to express design concepts. And according to survey on buildings in various districts, we could verify that architects were applying various design process to express design concepts according to site characteristics. These results could help architects to design appropriately, according to site characteristics.

  • In this paper, as a previous step of software development, through an analysis step in the basic design process of the FPSO crane, ERD, which could help develop common understanding between its developer and the user, was introduced. From the flowchart of the design process, the overall work flow in its development was understood. Then, after the design process of the crane was divided into many entities, the attributes of each entity were defined and the relationships between the entities were established, followed by ERD creation through the use of IDEF1X notation. The results of the analysis can be readily understood even by users who lack of software knowledge, and then their change requirements can be immediately reflected in the developed system that requires modification.

  • The recognition of emotionality becomes so important that it is called 'emotional consumption society'. The emotional design, which is mostly concerned about users consensus and experiences, is understood from a interactive point of view, human, and space. Today, the emotional design is a new paradigm. From this point of view, this paper, which presents patterns analysis of outdoor lighting by the emotional design, applies expression techniques of the emotional design in Analysis process of outdoor lighting patterns.   • The present study was intended to suggest a process of physical user interface (PUI) design guideline development, which was validated with mobile phones. The process consisted of five stages including component and dimension analysis, function and environment analysis, evaluation criterion generation, literature review, and design guideline development. The process was applied to develop 19 mobile phone PUI design guidelines by identifying 28 components, 9 dimensions, 51 functions, 7 environmental conditions, and 15 criteria. The systematic approach of the process would be useful for manufacturers to develop design guidelines in an efficient manner.

  • This study describes process and method to establish concurrent and/or sequential schedule planning for the system design process of the EIA632 standard. For this purpose, the study suggest Process and method that are context analysis of standard process, interface definition from activity decomposition, integration of related activities, and definition of concurrent and/or sequential work flow. The proposed process and method will contribute to minimize time loss that is emerged from activities iteration.

  • The whole design process drawing outputs from design planning is based on designers' intuitive ideas and differences in technical ability. However, every design professional agrees to the fact that such design process is filled with individuals' implicit acts or inherent intuition rather than following directions in a certain defined frame. If the design process based on such intuition and experience can start from the rational and scientific process, it would be possible to move more systematic design process to the next step. This study aims to examine what system of thinking are used by designers to conduct the design information process, by using the protocol analysis which is the representative qualitative study method of cognitive science, on designers' cognitive behaviors like the contents of the design sketch process which is the initial step of the kitchenware development process, in order to understand professionals' and non-professionals' design application direction. Thus, the scope of this paper would be limited to "the initial protocol analysis on kitchenware" and "encoding of the analysis on thinking" in the qualitative study that can be the most basic to understand the design cognitive science. As a procedure to solve this study question, it aimed to seek for the product development flow and the educational effect by considering the preceding researches and also re-interpreting cognitive thinking in systematic methods.

Finite Element Analysis for the Forging Process Design of a Blind Rivet (블라인드 리벳의 단조공정설계를 위한 유한요소해석)

  • A rivet which can fasten two parts is one of an important mechanical elements. In this study, the process design of a blind revet is implemented using finite element method in order to manufacture it which can resist high vibration and has strong coherence between two parts. Considering plastic flow, ease of manufacture, high strength, material loss, and so forth, an optimal four-stage process is proposed by finite element analysis and process design rules. In addition, the finite element simulation results such as shape of the forged rivet, strain distribution and forging load are investigated for the usefulness of the forging process of the blind rivet. These results will be contributed to the forging process design and the die design of the blind rivet.

  • Copper bus-bar is made by drawing process and used in many part of industry. When design drawing die for copper bus-bar, design factor is focused on the deformation of die-land by drawing force and shrink fit. In this paper, to determine shrink fit value is analyzed by automatic shrink fit analysis program, APDL/UIDL language in a commercial FEM package, ANSYS, has been developed that enables optimal design of the dies taking into account the elastic deflections generated in shrink fitting the die inserts and that caused by the stresses generated in the process and by using DEFORM software for drawing process analysis. This data can be processed as load input data for a finite element die-stress analysis. Process simulation and stress analysis are thus combined during the drawing die design. The stress analysis of the dies is used to determine optimized dimension of die-land.
