  • Toguchi method is a systematic technique for designing high quality product at low cost. There are three steps in the Toguchi method, 1)system design, 2)parameter design, and 3)tolerance design. This paper considers the tolerance design for multiple performance characteristics which is practically important. We present two tolerance design procedures : grade selection and tolerance determining procedures. In grade selection procedure a scheme is presented that minimizes the sum of the price of low-level characteristics and the expected loss due to the variations of high-level characteristics. In tolerance determining procedure we determine the tolerances of the low-level characteristics.

  • Presented in this paper is the process planning for multi-weldline/multi-pass robot welding. First, downhand welding for welding quality and stability for welding productivity, the two concept of process planning for single-weldling/single-pass robot weldling are derived. Next, process planning procedure for single-weldling/single-pass robot weldling is proposed and the procedure is extended for multi-weldling and/or multi-pass robot welding.

  • In planning an assembly system, choosing the proper assembly sequence is one of the most important decisions because it significantly affects the costs associated with the assembly process. This paper deals with the selection of assembly sequences in flexible assembly systems. The selection criterion is the minimization of makespan to complete all assembly products. This problem is formulated as a "modified FAS scheduling problem" (MFASSP) and its scheduling procedure is described. The experimental results show that the procedure is very efficient for both quality of solution and computation time.

  • To generate a multicast routing tree guaranteeing the quality of service (QoS), we consider the hop constrained Steiner tree problem and propose a new mathematical formulation for it, which contains fewer constraints than a known formulation. An efficient procedure is also proposed to solve the problem. Preliminary tests show that the procedure reduces the computing time significantly.

  • This thesis compares life test acceptance sampling plans under lifetime has an exponential distribution. Various practical considerations may lead a user adopt a two-stage, or double sampling, test procedure. Hewett and Spurrier(1983) provided a survey of two-stage methods, as well as examples of experiments for which a two-stage procedure would be appropriate. The plans are compared in terms of the expected number of failures, and the expected time required to reach a dicision. Computational experiments are conducted and the results are tabulated to provide guidelines for selecting an appropriate plan for a given situation.

  • A mixture experiment is a special type of response surface experiment in which the factors are the ingredients or components of a mixture, and the response is a function of the proportions of each ingredient. Evolutionary operation is useful to improve on-line full-scale manufacturing processes by systematically changing the levels of the process variables without jeopardizing the product. This paper presents an evolutionary operation procedure for large-scale mixture production processes based on simplex search procedure, which can be beneficial to practitioners who should improve on-line mixture process quality while meeting the production schedule of the mixture product.

  • In recent, one of the interesting research areas is about quality of network system. Therefore many research centers including ISO are preparing the measuring and evaluating method for network quality. This study will represent an evaluating model for network security based on checklist. In addition, we propose an measuring and evaluating method for network performance. The purpose of two studies is to present the evaluating procedure and method for measuring security of network on set workwill be identified and a measuring method and procedure will be proposed.

  • Advances in computer and sensor technology have made it possible to obtain superlarge manufacturing process data in real time, letting us to extract meaningful information from these superlarge data sets. We propose a systematic data analysis procedure which field engineers can apply easily to manufacture quality products. The procedure consists of data cleaning and data analysis stages. Data cleaning stage is to construct a database suitable for statistical analysis from the original superlarge manufacturing process data. In the data analysis stage, we suggest a graphical easy-to-implement approach to extract practical information from the cleaned database. This study will help manufacturing companies to achieve six sigma quality.

  • In this paper, we use and apply statistical tools to planning marketing strategy in advanced markets. New comers with low brand awareness in advanced markets can not attain high profit easily and need more effective strategic approach. In this paper, an effective and practical procedure is proposed to plan marketing strategies to satisfy the customer and increase the market share in advanced markets. The procedure consists of 5 steps : market survey, determining target brand, evaluation of brand attributes, gap analysis to determine the goal, and correlation analysis for effective improvement method. A case study is studied in the European market for electric appliances, between a Korean company and other companies. Various statistical tools are used to analyze the phenomena and some important conclusions are derived for effective marketing.

  • The determination of the tolerance on the lower-level characteristics for the given upper-level characteristics is an indispensable problem in manufacturing industries. The procedure, proposed by Taguchi, for this matter can be easily applied in engineering fields due to its conceptual simplicity. However, the previously developed methods are known to have some limitations in the field applications, because the value of each major factor determining the tolerance cannot be obtained exactly. In this paper, a tolerance design procedure is proposed under the assumption that the major factors to determine the tolerance is uncertain. For the validity of the method proposed in this paper, a hypothetical problem is employed and analyzed.
