Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. ‘KF109’) seeds were primed in polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG 6000) solutions to determine a) what osmotic potential of the solution would be optimal for priming, i.e., critical potential level for preventing germination, and b) what temperature and duration would be the most effective in priming. The germination was completely prevented below -0.8 MPa of PEG 6000, that indicates a optimum water potential for seed priming. Seeds were primed for 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 and 15 days at 15, 20 and $25^{\circ}C$, respectively, under the-0.8 MPa PEG 6000 solution to find out the most effective temperature and duration for priming. The effectiveness of priming, particularly in germination speed, was observed more distinctly when the primed seeds were germinated at 15$^{\circ}C$ than 2 5$^{\circ}C$. The greatest reduction of the time to 50% germination (T/sob 50/) was when the seeds were primed at $25^{\circ}C$. The reduction rate of the $T_{50}$ was rapid when primed from 1 day to 8 days and then slowed down in the seeds primed for longer than 8 days. The time from 10 to 90% germination ( $T_{10-90}$ increased in the primed seeds for longer than 8 days which showed the reversed effect of synchronous germination. However, $T_{50}$ was reduced continuously in the seeds even primed over 8 days. Thus, the optimum condition for tobacco seeds priming with PEG 6000 solution was -0.8 MPa in osmotic potential of the solution at $25^{\circ}C$ for 8 days.ays.
In this study, the influence of priming location inside a blast hole on the ground vibration has been studied. In most of the previous studies dealing with the ground vibration, the effect of priming location in a blast hole was usually considered in a limited way. Thus, it seems that the results of the studies can be applicable only to the relevant sites. Considering the fact that the mechanism of ground vibration caused by blasting is quite complex, the priming location can have a considerable effect on the ground vibration in certain situations and be an important parameter in a blasting design. To identify the characteristics of the wave propagation according to priming locations, total 72 test blasts were carried out with different spacing, burden, drilling length, and charge, and prediction equations were derived. The characteristics of ground vibration, which was changed according to the priming location, was analyzed by using the nomogram of peak particle velocity (PPV) record. Attenuation relations, which were also dependent on the priming location, were analyzed. In this case, four different amounts of charge, that is, 0.5, 1.6, 5, and 15 kg, were used for the test. This criterion of charge amount is specified in the "Blasting design and construction guidelines to road construction" by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs of Korea.
This study examined effects of word frequency and semantic transparency on decomposition processes of compound nouns by semantic priming task and repetition priming task. In Experiment 1, it was investigated that decomposition process depended on word frequency of compound noun. Semantic priming effects were found In the compound noun's associate rendition consistently, and repetition priming effects were found in the whole rendition as well as in the part condition irrespective of word frequency and SOA. These results implied that compound noun was processed through decomposition process path and direct access path. In Experiment 2, Effects of semantic transparency on decomposition processes of compound nouns were examined. Semantic priming effects were found when compound nouns' associates were presented as primes irrespective of semantic transparency and SOA, and results were the same as experiment 1b in repetition priming task. Results of experiment 1 and 2 implies that compound nouns are interpreted by interactive activation processes of attributes activated by decomposition path and direct access path.

A novel priming discharge technique in which the ramp shaped priming pulse is superposed on the sustain period so that the entire plasma display panel (PDP) is discharged at the same time with a single drive circuit is proposed. From the experimental results, it is ascertained that the priming discharge is ignited only in a pixel in which sustain discharge does not occur and it has been understood that the priming pulse hardly influences the sustain discharge. Moreover, high-speed driving with address pulse widths of 0.7[${\mu}s$] was achieved and a wide address voltage margin of 40[V] was obtained by using the drive method applied the proposed priming discharge technique. In these results, full-HDTV PDP with 1080 horizontal scanning lines can be driven without decreasing the brightness and the possibility of the commercializing is also high because this technology is designed for using the commercialized driver IC.

In nine commercial watermelon cultivars, the effects of osmotic seed priming were evaluated for seed viability and seedling growth at different germination temperatures and field conditions. Generally, primed seeds showed improved germination rate and reduced time for emergence at different germination temperatures, as compared to untreated seeds. In particular, priming effect on seed germination was significantly high at $15^{\circ}C$, which is an environment normally resulting in poor germination. Depending on the watermelon cultivar, germination rate under low temperature ($15^{\circ}C$) was improved by up to 15~66% in primed seeds, as compared to untreated seeds. However, priming effect on germination was gradually reduced as the temperature reached to its optimum level for seed germination. Seed priming tended to improve the viability, fresh weight, and dry weight of watermelon seedlings, but its effect on seedling stage was not large, as compared to untreated seeds. Primed watermelon seeds showed improved emergence rate and facilitated germination in the field, but their seedling growth after 30 days from germination was not significantly affected. Our results indicated that seed priming can greatly improve the seed germination at poor temperature conditions in the watermelon.

Seed priming leading to improved emergences, germination speed and uniformity under unfavorable conditions without loss of longevity are the best level of techniques. We studied the possibility to obtain primed seed with reduced mean germination time (MGT) and uniformity but with simple, fast and effective methods. The experiments were carried out at $15^{\circ}C$ for 16 hours with priming treatment. To compare the effects of each treatment, we used 200mM $CaCl_2$ priming or hydro priming or no imbibition after ultrasonication or red light treatment. The light treatment was performed by irradiating 2000 lux of red light for 15, 30, 60, and 120 minutes. Addition, in order to investigate the effect of the priming solution, treated at 200mM $CaCl_2$ for 8 hours. Ultrasonication treatment was performed for 5, 10, and 20 minutes at exposures of 13.0, 17.3, and 21.6 kHz during priming. For liquid smoke (LS) treatment, seed soaked in 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 5.0% and 10.0% of diluted water and 200mM $CaCl_2$ solution. After each treatment, the seeds were dried to moisture content ranged 5-8% at $25^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The effect of seed treatment was evaluated with germination percentage (GP), MGT, germination index(GI), germination rate(GR), Germination Uniformity(GU) and heath seed percentage(HS). For several factors tested, we found that the desired germination improvement could be obtained by treating the seed with ultrasonication at 17.3 kHz for 5 minutes in water or red light exposure at 2000 lux for 120 min in water that resulted very similar to those used to 200mM $CaCl_2$ priming for 16 hrs. However, LS treatment showed no improvement in all diluted solution. Therefore, the methods applied ultrasonication and red light treatment showed high potential for fast and easy treatment avoiding pollution of salt solution waste.

The priming discharge characteristic at the reset period in the ADS drive method of PDP was experimentally analyzed in this research. The amount of wall charge accumulated by the discharge and the accumulated time are unrelated to the priming pulse width. The self-erase discharge by excessive wall charge is related to the amount of wall charge by the priming discharge and this is related to space charge generated by the priming discharge. From the experimental result, in the optimized priming condition the plus width is 8$mutextrm{s}$ and the voltage is about 163V. The space charge which helps the self-erase discharge exists during about 16$mutextrm{s}$ immediately after generating the priming discharge. Therefore, it is suitable within 16$mutextrm{s}$ of the priming pluse width for the effective reset process.
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of light, temperature, and priming treatment on the germination of Bidens bipinnata seeds for the purpose of cultivation of new vegetable crop. The results showed that the treatment of $25^{\circ}C$ yielded the highest germination percentages and the highest germination speed in both light and dark conditions. Light condition had no effect on the germination of B. bipinnata. Priming treatments demon-strated the following improved germination percentages: $Ca(NO_3)_2$ 0.1 M (68.3%), $K_3PO_4$ 0.1 M (63.3%), and $KNO_3$ 0.1 M (53.3%), with $Ca(NO_3)_2$ 0.1 M treatment giving the greatest improvement. Consequentially, the results suggested that $25^{\circ}C$ light condition, and $K_3PO_4$ 0.1 M or $Ca(NO_3)_2$ 0.1 M priming treatments would be effective method to improve the germination of Bidens bipinnata seeds.
Because Lysimachia mauritiana is not able to maintain the seed viablity for a long time, it has difficulties in using for the ornamental plants or landscape gardening. This study was conducted to elucidate the optimal germination conditions of Lysimachia mauritiana seeds. The germination rate of the seeds was higer in light condition than in dark one. In experment determining the proper germination temperature, the germination rates were 2.2%, 96.9% and 91.2% under 35$\circ $C, 25$\circ $C, and 20$\circ $C, respectively in light condition. The approprate temperature for the germination was 25$\circ $C in light. The decreases of germination rate with the increase of the preservation periods was able to recover by priming pretreated with NaCl solution and KNO$_{3}$ + K$_{3}$H$_{2}$PO mixed solutions. When the storage period was 300 days, the germination rate was 75% without priming treatments. But the seeds primed with NaCl 0.1M and KNO$_{3}$ + K$_{3}$H$_{2}$PO mixed solutions 0.1M, showed germination rate above 90%. T$_{50}$ also was shorten from 5.25 without priming to 3.78 with NaCl 0.1M. Seed priming may induce earlier sprouts and increase germination rate of long-preserved seeds of native wild plants.
The present study was conducted to explore how the processing of lexical ambiguity between homonymy and polysemy differs from each other, and whether the representation of mental lexicon was separated from each lexical ambiguity by a semantic priming paradigm. Homonymy (M1 means the literal meaning of '사과', i.e. apple and M2 means another literal meaning of '사과', i.e. apologize) was used in Experiment I, and polysemy (M2 means the literal meaning of '바람', i.e. wind and M2 means the figurative meaning of '바람', i.e. wanton) was used in Experiment 2. The results of both experiments showed that a significant semantic priming effect occurs regardless of the type of ambiguities (homonymy and polysemy) and the difference of their semantic processes. However, the semantic priming effect for polysemy was larger than that for homonymy. This result supports the hypothesis that the semantic process of homonymy is different from that of polysemy.
