Background: Recently, adolescent obesity was increased and tended to become obese adults, facing increased risk for diabetes, cardiovascular disease. Even before reaching adulthood, adolescent obesity already was experiencing hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this study was to find prevalence of obesity of high school students in Jeju island and association between obesity and cardiovascular risk factors and association between childhood obesity and adolescent obesity. Method: The study subjects were 6,064 students of twenty-two high school in Jeju island and health survey data was gathered from high school health examination data and hospital health examination data from Aug. 1999 to Dec. 1999. Adolescent obesity was evaluated by ideal body weight method in 1998 and body mass index. Cardiovascular risk factors were checked total cholesterol, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood sugar. In 1,534 students, obesity at primary school is checked by primary and middle school health record. Results: Prevalence of obesity in Jeju island high school students is 12.6% in male students, 13.3% in female students by ideal body weight method and 8.7% in male students, 8.5% in female students by body mass index. Prevalence of obesity of male students in city area and district area of Jeju island were each 12.9%, 10.3% and that of male students in city area was significantly higher. Prevalence of obesity of female students in city area and district area of Jeju island were each 12.9%, 14.2% and not significantly different. Prevalence of obesity of male students in general and commercial school group were each 13.9%, 10.1% and that of general school group was significantly higher. In female students, Prevalence of obesity general and commercial school group was not significantly different. Total cholesterol, systolic and diastolic blood pressure were significantly associated with degree of obesity in male and female students(p<0.05) and fasting blood sugar was only significantly associated with degree of obesity in male students(p<0.05). In 1,514 students checked by health record, Odds ratio of obesity at primary and middle school that at high school were 12.96∼22.77 and was significantly associated. Conclusion: Prevalence of obesity of high school students in Jeju island is very high and adolescent obesity was significantly associated with cardiovascular risk factors. Mostly childhood obesity tended to become adolescent obesity and program of control of obesity at childhood and adolescence is required.
Purpose: To provide basic data for developing problematic drinking prevention problem through the investigation of the educational needs on drinking of primary students. Paragonimus westermani is one of the most popular endemic parasitic diseases in Korea. The nation-wide prevalence survey were carried out by Gobayashi (1921) with sputum examination and by Walton and Chyu (1959) with the intradermal skin test respectively. Recent studies showed the decline of positive rate in intradermal skin test of the local inhabitants and also showed the less distribution of intermediate host. The fact seemed that caused by economic improvement of village people, decrease of intermediate host by increasing use of pesticides, becoming lower water level at streams and rivers and better irrigation and finally by better community health education etc. Gangwha area of Gyeonggi-Do was found out as an endemic area of Paragonimus westermani through some studies in the past, however, in the vicinity area of Gangwha, the study in Kyodong island (myon) was carried out in 1965 by Yun et al. Therefore author carried out the intradermal skin test for 2,380 students of primary, middle and high school in Kyodong island and Samsan island. The results showed as follows : 1) The positive rate of intradermal test for paragonimus westermani infection showed positive in 152 among 1,845 students (8.2%) in Kyodong island, and 21 among 637 students (3.3%) in Samsan island respectively. 2) According to grade levels, 49 among 973 students (5.0%) in primary school, 62 among 962 students (6.4%) in middle school and 53 among 445 students (11.9%) in high school showed positive rate. This showed the higher grade the higher positive rate. 3) Among these total 164 positive cases in the intradermal skin test, only in 3 cases eggs were found in sputum. 4) Finding out the intermediate host, only 28 crayfishes from Kyodong island and 12 from Samsan island were collected and examined for metacercaria infection, however, none of metacercaria was found. 5) As a control group, 2 primary schools from the main island were selected. In these schools from the sixth grade students showed positive rate of 4.8% in Naega primary school and 0% in Hajeom Primary school respectively. Those results showed much decrease than studies carried out in the past. 6) The survey for food habit showed that 15 among 1,274 students (1.2%) had experiences of eating raw intermediate host(crayfish) and 266 among 988 students (27.0%) ate cooked.
As the age of the sex crime perpetrators and victims is going down, the importance of Sex Assault Prevention Education (SAPE) is on the rise. In order to see how many students are aware of the SAPE which are currently being conducted in the local schools. A total of 600 students from five different primary schools in Kyongsan City area were questioned with the questionnaire. On the whole, the level of acknowledgement on the sexual assault is estimated as 20.52 out of total point 53.00. The point in each question is shown as low as follows; The notion of Sexual Assault (9.88 out of 19), recognition of Sexual Assault (5.45 out 11), way to cope with the sexual assault (6.60 out of 11), and knowledge on the symptom induced by the sexual assault (4.04 out of 12). The SAPE should be taught to the student from the young age frequently. The efficiency of SAPE will be increased by the health-care teachers who have the professional knowledge with the case studies and teaching materials like CD-ROMs. The health-care teachers as the SAPE lecturers require continuous training.

Computer Science Unplugged is a collection of free learning activities that teach Computer Science through engaging games and puzzles that use cards, string, crayons and lots of running around. In spite of the success of unplugged activities, the unplugged resources for experiencing the concepts of data structures is lacked. In this study, we design, implement and survey the 3 hour lessons of the core concepts of graph theory and the shortest path algorithm for the primary students using computer science unplugged activities. Our survey results showed that our lesson plan is adequate for primary school students and will have a positive effects for primary school students.
There are many concerns about the use and abuse of both licit and illicit substances among adolescents. This study was performed to understand the drinking status and drinking behaviur of middle school students. Self reports on drinking behaviur, dietary habits and one-day dietary records were obtained from 213 boys and 202 girls using anonymous questionnaires. One hundred and forty five of 415 students(34.9%) have experienced drinking and 48.3% of them initiated it at primary school. The motivation for first drinking was different between boys and girls; ' after sacrificial rite' for boys, ' curiosity' for girls. The most plausible reasons for drinking were ' boredom' and ' stress reduction' , and they felt the strongest desire to drink when they felt ' anger or frustration' Drinking behavior was not significantly different between male and female student except in the motivation for first drinking. But interestingly, the girls drank with friends mostly, while the boys drank with their parents. Drinking-experienced students showed significantly high rates of skipping meals and in particular skipping breakfast. DVS was found as $14.71\pm{4.51}$ and $13.95\pm{4.69}$ in non-drinking and drinking, respectively. This study showed that the drinking experience of middle school students were initiated earlier in primary school, and that drinking behavior of female students was not different with that of male student.

In the existing researches about the Internet and mobile phone addition for primary and secondary school students, the major addiction testing measurements are personal parameters such as obsession, self-efficacy, and self-control and environmental parameters such as parents, friends, schools, community factors, and mass media. Those researches have focused on the interaction objects between a student and him/herself, parents, friends, schools, or society. While the importance of time perspective has increased recently, there have rarely been the research that had focused on it in education arena. In this paper, we analyze how time perspective influences the Internet and mobile phone addiction levels of primary and middle school students. In order to do that, we surveyed 619 primary and middle school students and analyzed the results in this paper. And then, we renew the relative importance among existing factors for the two addictions and propose the way to prevent the two addictions.

The first category of Affective Domain objectives in Bloom's Taxonomy is about "Receiving". In it, the first subdivision listed is "Awareness" (Krathwohl, Bloom & Masia, 1964). Since these categories are intended to be hierarchical in ascending order of internalization, it is important that young learners be given ample opportunities in their learning experiences in class to be aware of positive values and effective life skills. This paper reports a feasibility study on the adoption of an integrative cognitive-affective learning approach in a primary school science lesson. 37 primary six students in a Singapore primary school were taught the concept of centre of gravity, including a hands-on activity to find the centre of gravity of an irregularly shaped cardboard by using a plumbline. After reviewing how a plumbline works, their teacher then led them into a discussion on the question "Who is the plumbline in your life?" a reference to identifying positive role models in their lives. From the transcript of the students' in-class sharing and their written responses to the question, it is clear that the integrative cognitive-affective learning approach did enable students to present their ideas and learning experiences in the affective domain quite readily. This conclusion provides a valuable lead to a follow-up project on whether students who are exposed to such integrative learning approaches will be more capable and more aware of identifying important positive social habits or values. If so, then the teaching of values in schools could take on a whole new dimension, that of borrowing students' learning energy in the cognitive domain to learn values and life skills in the affective domain.
In this study, the researcher classified primary school boys with obesity into light(% fat : 20∼24.9%), moderate(25∼29.9%) and heavy(30% or more) obese group and then analyzed and evaluated their own levels of insulin, leptin and lipids in blood. The level of insulin was significantly high in primary school students with heavy obese rather than in the other two groups. While that of leptin, significantly high in those children with moderate and heavy obese rather than in the other group of light obese. The level of T-C was significantly high in primary school students with light obese rather than in those students with heavy obese. HDL-C tended to increase as %fat went up, but there was no significant difference. The level of TG was significantly high in the group of heavy obese compared to the other groups. LDL-C tended to increase gradually as %fat became high. Thus, depending on %fat, primary school students with obesity were significantly different with each other in insulin, leptin T-C and TG levels. This suggests the urgent necessity of developing systematic and separate programs to treat such obese children.
