  • The Prestressed Concrete (hereinafter PSC) box girder bridges with corrugated steel webs have been drawing an attention as a new structure type of PSC bridge fully utilizing the feature of concrete and steel. However, the previous study focused on the shear buckling of the corrugated steel web and development of connection between concrete flange and steel web. Therefore, it needs to perform a study on the torsional behavior and develop the rational torsional analysis model for PSC box girder with corrugated steel web. In this study, torsional analysis model is developed using Rausch's equation based on space truss model, equilibrium equation considering softening effect of reinforced concrete element and compatibility equation. Validation studies are performed on developed model through the comparison with the experimental results of loading test for PSC box girder with corrugated steel webs. Parametric studies are also performed to investigate the effect of prestressing force and concrete strength in torsional behavior of PSC box girder with corrugated steel web. The modified correction factor is also derived for the torsional coefficient of PSC box girder with corrugated steel web through the parametric study using the proposed anlaytical model.

  • The reasonable prediction of time-dependent deformation of prestressed concrete(PSC) box girder bridges is very important for accurate construction as well as good serviceability. The long-term behavior is mostly influenced by the probabilistic characteristic of creep and shrinkage. This paper presents a method of statistical analysis and sensitivity analysis of creep and shrinkage effects in PSC box been taken into account - model uncertainty, parameter variation and environmental condition. The statistical and sensitivity analyses are performed by using the numerical simulation of Latin Hypercube sampling. For each sample, the time-dependent structural analysis is performed to produce response data, which are then statistically analyzed. The probabilistic prediction of the confidence limits on long-term effects of creep and shrinkage is then expressed. Three measure are examined to quantify the sensitivity of the outputs of each of the input variables. These are rank correlation coefficient(RCC), partical rank correlation coefficient(PRCC) and standardiozed rank regression coefficient(SRRC) computed on the ranks of the observations. Three creep and shrinkage models - i. e., ACI model. CEB-FIP model and the model in Korea Highway Bridge Specification - are studied. The creep model uncertainy factor and the relative humidity appear to be the most dominant factors with regard to the model output uncertainty.

  • A girder height limitation is the critical parameter for rapid construction of bridge deck and construction space limitation especially in urban area such as high population area and high density habitats. A standard post-tensioned I-shaped concrete girder usually demands relatively higher girder height in order to retain sufficient moment arm between compression force and tensile force. To elaborate this issue, a small U-shaped section with wide flanges can be used as a possible replacement of I-shaped standard girder. This prestressed concrete box girder allows more flexible girder height adjustment rather than standard I-shaped post-tensioned girder plus additional torsion resistance benefits of closed section. A 30m-long, 1.7m-high and 3.63m-wide actual small prestressed concrete box girder is designed and a laboratory test for its static behaviors by applying 6,200kN amount of load in the form of 4-point bending test was performed. The load-deflection curve and crack patterns at different loading stage are recorded. In addition, to extracting the dynamic characteristics such as natural frequency and damping ratio of this girder, several excitation tests with artificial mechanical exciter with un-symmetric mass are carried out using operational frequency sweep-up. Nonlinear finite element analysis of this 4 point bending test under monotonic static load is investigated and discussed with aids of concrete damaged plasticity formulation using ABAQUS program.

  • Recently, a new PSC (Prestressed Concrete) bridge system, which is supported by Concrete-filled fiber-reinforced polymer (CFFRP) strut, has been introduced. This bridge is able to reduce self-weight and increase the width of traditional PSC bridges. However, no relevant research has been reported on local behavior of CFFRP strut in the bridge system. The purpose of this study is to investigate local behavior of CFFRP struts using fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. Field tests were performed to examine the hoop strains and longitudinal strains of the FRP strut under various lateral positions and velocities of a test truck. It has been observed that CFFRP strut is under compression regardless of vehicle speed and location. However, the CFFRP strut is sensitive to the lateral position of vehicles in terms of strain magnitude. Results also indicated that the FBG sensors can faithfully record the hoop and longitudinal strains of the FRP strut without electro-magnetic interference.

  • In this study, we have proposed a method of monitoring of bridges under construction in view of the long-term behavior of the prestress concrete bridge of which the Free Cantilever Method is applied. As a method to confirm the ability of the long-term behavior of the concrete box girder, temperature sensors and strain gauges were installed, and the measured data was used to calculate creep coefficient. Moreover, we have measured the stress of the concrete box girder during construction which was applied with creep coefficient and compared with the changes in temperature to analyze the vertical displacement along the segment. In conclusion, monitoring of the FCM bridge during construction in consideration of the long-term behavior can be analyzed efficiently by suing temperature and displacement data without the use of laser displacement meter or laser delfectometer.

  • This study deals with the effect of a series of moving trucks on the Dynamic Load Factor (DLF). The DLF is calculated by investigating the load effect of moving trucks. Therefore, analytical models for frocks, bridge, and road profiles were developed and dynamic structural analysis computer program were developed. Then the DLFs are calculated as a ratio of maximum dynamic load effect and maximum static load effect. Trucks used in this study are 5 axle semi tractor-trailer with the weight of 36 and 54 ton. Simply supported prestressed concrete box girder bridges with 20 and 40m span length are selected. From the results of the DLF for various headway distances, they show a very scattered and relatively high values of the DLF in case of a 20m span length bridge. For a 40m span length bridge, the results show less scattered and small increase of the DLF compared to a 20m span length bridge.

  • Out of 412km long Kyung-bu high-speed railway, 302km was designed in tile form of either bridges or tunnels. Most of bridges were designed to be prestressed concrete box girder type. The precast span method was selected because of good quality of bridge section secured by factory manufacturing, fast construction speed, low construction cost with mechanized construction and the safety fur field workers. The precast span method has been mainly utilized in bridges consisted of repeated simple spans. However, we applied the precast span method to continuous bridge for high-speed railway Since it was the first attempt to apply ate precast span method to a continuous bridge for high-speed railway, many design and construction details were studied and implemented in the construction. Design and construction processes of a continuous bridge construction using tile precast span mettled are briefly described in this paper.

  • The purpose of the paper is to propose a method to give a more accurate prediction of prestress changes in prestressed concrete(PSC) bridges. The statistical approach of the method is using the measurement data of the structural system to develop a nonlinear regression analysis. Long-term prediction of prestress is achieved using nonlinear regression analysis. The proposed method is applied to the prediction of prestress of an actual prestressed concrete box girder bridge. The present study represents that confidence interval of long-term prediction becomes progressively narrower with the increase of in-situ measurement data. Therefore, the numerical results prove that a more realistic long-term prediction of prestress changes in PSC structures can be achieved by employing the proposed method. The prediction results can be efficiently used to evaluate prestress during the service life of structure so that the remaining prestress exceeds the control criteria.

  • The dynamic analysis model is developed with the high-speed train (KTX) and a 2-span continuous prestressed concrete box girder bridge with a double track. The analytical results are compared with the dynamic field test results and found to be valid to yield quite accurate dynamic responses. The various trainset models with different number of cars are developed and compared with the results of the regular 20-car trainset model. It is concluded that the reduced trainset models, such as 7-car and 10-car models, cannot exactly produce the dynamic responses of bridges, especially when the train speed is high. Under the coincidence condition of two trains traveling with resonance velocity in the opposite directions, it is found that the impact factor under two-way coincidence is three times larger than that under one-way traffic. Consequently, for the bridge with a double-track it is necessary to check not only the dynamic responses of the bridge with one-way traffic but those with two-way coincidence.

  • This research focuses on development of the conceptual cost estimation models for I.L.M box girder bridge. The current conceptual cost estimation for public construction projects is dependent on governmental average unit price references which has been regarded as inaccurate and unreliable by many experts. Therefore, there have been strong demands for developing a better way of conceptual cost estimating methods. This research has proposed three different conceptual cost estimating method for a P.S.C. girder bridge built with the I.L.M method. Model (I) attempts to seek the proper breakdown of standard works that are accountable for more than 95 percentage in total cost and calculates the amount of standard work's materials from the standard section and volume of I.L.M box girder bridge. Model (II) utilizes a correlation analysis (coefficient over 0.6 or more) between breakdown of standard works and input data that would be considered available information in preliminary design phase. Model(III) obtains conceptual estimating through multiple-regression analysis between the breakdown of standard works and all of input data related to them. In order to validate the clustering of coverage in the preliminary design phase, the variation of I.L.M cost coverage from multiple-regression analysis[model(III)] has been investigated which result in between -3.76% and 11.79%, comparing with AACE(Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) which informs its variation between -5% and +15% in the design phase. The model proposed from this research are envisioned to be improved to a great distinct if reliable cost date for P.S.C. girder bridges can be continually collected with reasonable accuracies.
