  • Numerical analysis is performed to find flow and heat transfer characteristics for ring type heat exchanger. 3-D numerical predictions are carried out for the ring type heat exchanger system with Reynolds number varying in the range of 1,000 and 10,000. From the prediction, streamwise velocity, pressure drop, flow rate and heat transfer coefficient are analyzed. It is also found that characteristics of pressure drop and heat transfer generally follow well proportional variations of Re$m^$for the wide range of Reynolds number considered in this study.

  • Because the liquid-vapor interfacial shear stress affects seriously the liquid flow and the maximum heat transport rate of the grooved wick heat pipe, an accurate modeling for the pressure drop characteristics of the liquid flow is required. A novel method for calculating the liquid pressure drop and the velocity profile of an open channel flow in a microchannel with an arbitrary cross-section is suggested and validated by experiments. An experimental apparatus for the Poiseuille number of the liquid flow in open rectangular microchannels with the hydraulic diameters of 0.40mm, 0.43mm, 0.48mm is used in order to reproduce real situations in the grooved wick heat pipe. Analytic results from the suggested method are compared with the experimental data and they are in a close agreement with each other.

  • The characteristics of heat transfer and pressure drop for fully developed turbulent flow in a tube with circumferential fins and circular were experimentally studied. The various spacing and sizes of circumferential fins and circular disks were selected as design parameters, while the effects of these parameters on heat transfer enhancement and pressure drop were investigated. In order to quantify the effect of heat transfer enhancement and the increase of pressure drop due to the fins and disks in a tube, the Nusselt numbers and the friction factors for various configurations and operating conditions were compared to those for a corresponding smooth tube. The results showed that the heat transfer rate was significantly enhanced by increasing the height of circumferential fins and decreasing the pitch of circumferential fins. On the other hand, the influence of the disk size and the fin-disk spacing were not significant. Based on the experimental results, a correlation for estimating the Nusselt number was suggested.

원심력이 적용된 여과포집진장치와 기존 집진장치의 성능비교 (Performance Comparison of a Fabric Filter System with Centrifugal Force and a Conventional Fabric Filter System)

  • A hybrid dust-collector combining a fabric filter with centrifugal force was developed to enhance the performance of the conventional fabric filter systems and its performances were evaluated to compare to that of the existing dust collector. The pressure drop rapidly increased with increasing the elapsed time and the face velocity in two filtration systems. But the increasing ratio of a hybrid dust-collector compare to the existing dust collector was lower. This results were confirmed from the performance such as cleaning interval, residual pressure drop and dust loading rate. The overall collection efficiency of the hybrid dust-collector was more than 99.6% and this showed a improvement of 0.6~2% than that of the existing dust collector. Especially, the fractional collection efficiency at the particle size of around 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ is about 4% higher than that of the existing dust collector.

  • Pressure drop and fractional collection efficiency of automotive cabin air filters were examined to obtain the basic data for the development of high performance domestic cabin air filters. Pressure drop of MA-V100 was higher than that of VF-V100, and it increased with the air flow rate. VF-V100 had longer time to rise the critical pressure drop than that MA-V100 had. Total collection efficiency of MA-V100 for initial and dust loaded conditions was higher than that of VF-V100. Also, fractional collection efficiency of MA-V100 for the fine particles was higher than that of VF-V100. Particla size distribution for the minimum collection efficiency ranged from 0.02 $\mu$m to 0.04 $\mu$m for MA-V100 and it ranged from 0.02 $\mu$m to 0.15 $\mu$m for VF-V100.

  • This study investigates the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of heat exchanger according to the combination of fin configuration and fin pitch of each row by the similitude experiments with the finned-tube geometry scaled as large as four times Finned-tube heat exchanger has 2 rows, and fin geometry consists of two cases, louver-louver and louver-slit. Fin pitch is varied with three types in each case, 6-6 mm, 8-8 mm and 8-6 mm. Results show that total heat transfer can be occurred evenly at each row by varying the fin pitch of 1st row and 2nd row. Heat transfer rate and pressure drop characteristics change according to the combination for fin geometry and fin pitch.

Flow performance of cryomodules in C-ADS Injector II

  • Two β=0.10 cryomodules are required for the China Accelerator Driven Subcritical System (C-ADS) injector II accelerator. Flow design is of great importance in the performance of cryomodules, including thermal design, flow distribution, pressure drop and so on. This paper will study convection heat transfer of helium and relation among the pipe diameter, mass flow rate and Reynolds number. Furthermore, the influence of flow geometries on pressure drop and flow distribution will also be done. It was found that the theoretical flow distribution were in good agreement with the experimental data.

  • We have investigated the feasibility of using differential pressure(pressure drop) of gas turbine meter to diagnose turbine performance degradation caused by mechanical wearing damage and/or dirt buildup or erosion. If the differential pressure between the upstream piping and the throat of a turine meter can be correlated to meter flow rate over the operating range of the meter, then a relatively simple differential pressure measurement in the filed might be used to detect meter performance changes. To test this method, we have conducted two experimental simulation on Straightener Integrated Type(SIT) turbine meter. One is fur dirt buildup on turbine blade, the other is for eccentricity of the blade. Results show that this method provide a reliable measure of performance degradation and is useful maintenance indicator.

  • This study experimented to understand the effect of transporting ice slurry through in pipe with valve. And at this experiment it used ethylene glycol-water solution and a concentration is 30wt%. The experimental apparatus was constructed of ice slurry generation tank, turbo flow meter, manometers for differential pressure measuring, PIV system for flow pattern measuring. illumination and along a horizontal circular tube with valve as test section. The experiments were carried out under various conditions, with velocity of fluid at the entry ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 m/s and concentration of IPF is 30%. Also valve open rate is 50%, 75%, 100%.

용접식 판형 열교환기의 성능에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Performance of a Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger)

  • An experimental study on the performance evaluation of a brazed plate heat exchanger with 10USRT of normal cooling capacity has been carried out. In the present study, a brazed plate heat exchanger was tested at a chevron angle $25^{\circ}$with refrigerant R-22. Refrigerant mass flux was ranged from 23 to 58 kg/$m^2$s in condensation, and from 22 to 53 kg/$m^2$s in evaporation. The heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops are increased as the mass flux increases. The water side pressure drop is increased as the cooling water flow rate and chilled water flow rate increase, while mass flux has little effect. It is also shown that the system performance can be improved by enlarging condensation heat transfer area.
